    These have to be plugged straight into the wall outlet. Surge-protectors filter noise...which is why it most likely would filter out the signal between the powerline adapters.

    I had doubts at first about upgrading to this "TP-LINK AV2000" from my ancient generation powerline. However i am so glad i did! It Lowered my ping from 10ms to 4ms and is 100% maxing my internet package of 300mbps down and 16mbps up. I would argue that this is as close to a straight ethernet wire you could get; in fact i doubt many could tell the difference. This really is the best powerline product on the market available today. If your hesitating all i can do is encourage you to just go try it for yourself. I am very happy with the result. Thanks to Kevin who inspired me to go try this product. The powerline from my measurements (at least in my setup) only adds 1ms ping. the additional 3 ms i am currently experiencing on my cable from my internet service provider. I have these setup main router in the living room; powerline to a bedroom basically on the other side of the wall in an appartment. My prior generation would cap out at 35mbps so this is quite the improvement. Id love to drill a whole in the wall and drop a cat 6/7 cable but they do not allow that here as it might compromise the structure of the building.

    If it helps anyone, the ports are gigabit meaning that the max transfer rate is 1000Mbps on each single port. The 2000Mbps number they give is the bandwidth between the powerline devices themselves. So, if you had multiple powerline devices across your home the 2000Mbps bandwidth is shared between them.

    solid. I got from another manufacturer... but what you have to do - you need 2 PCs on LAN and use iperf3 to check the LAN speed via powerline vs via directly router.

    The 2000Mbps transfer rate is referring to the maximum rate across the Powerline element of the connection.
    The Ethernet side is based on 10/100/1000Mbps rates hence why they only supply a Cat5e network cable

    Very good thanks for this. Couple of questions... to connect 2 devices - tv and console - do i use 2 connections from the router (the one that plugs into the router )
    Also do you recommend cat 7 or cat 5e cables?

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  Před 6 lety

      +Paul Sammut The adapters can do up to 2GB/s. If you're transferring files within your network and think you need faster transfer rates, get Cat 7. They're cheap to buy.
      If you are only using them for internet connections, just use the included cables.
      For your setup, plug one into the router. The other adapter will be close to your TV and console and you can run a separate ethernet cable to your TV and console.

    • @Toliman.
      @Toliman. Před 6 lety +1

      Cat5e can handle gigabit, Cat6/6a/7 are for 10gig, which is more expensive. shielded Cat53/6/6a/7 is for in-wall and long distance cabling.
      As the rating goes higher, the cables get thicker and harder to bend, as there's more shielding and braiding/MFG differences to achieve higher speeds over longer distances. At distances lower than 10m/50ft, choose what you like or is cheaper.
      As for AV2000, think of it like WiFi over wires. The 2gbit is shared between AV plugs, so the realistic max speeds are more like 200-1100mbps each. But, with MIMO which comes with the AV1200 and AV2000 , you can use extra plugs to boost range and speed, as they will relay and boost the signal between each plug in the house. If you have a few AV2000's in the house, they can use each other to repeat the signal or boost speed between subcircuits.
      i.e. if the AV2000 pairing is on different sub-circuits, i.e. Garage to Kitchen, sic. it's going to have a lot more electrical noise and distortion as those sub-circuits are isolated from each other. But, with MIMO, If you add another, or move one of the plugs closer to the electrical panel, it will act as a relay between points on the same sub-circuit, or boost the signal between sub-circuits. hopefully.

    This video is great! I've got a pair of 1200Mbps ones and I'm getting around 300Mbps on my 385Mbps connection - that's a loss of a good 10MB/s during downloads, so I really need something better. I'll give these 2000's a try, see if the increased frequency they operate at (86MHz vs 67MHz) can push that throughput closer to my full broadband speed. The reason why I need these is to get rid of some ugly cables in the living room. It does the job well even at 300 megabit, but the speed loss still nags at me...

There are a lot of Amazon reviews that state that the AV2000 adapters drop their connections with each other every 2-3 weeks and then need to be unplugged/plugged back in again to pair up. Hi, thanks for your review. What I didn't catch, is; are these wireless as well? We have had a cabin built at the bottom of the orchard. We have EE 4G which we use with extenders around the house. They are adequate, not brilliant, just adequate. Its an old single story cottage built back in the mid 1800's, with addons over the years. And more going on now. The wiring is fine by the way. We have armoured cable going down to the cabin, and we want obviously to extend the present 4G to the cabin from the house. It could be simple just to pick up the EE router and carry it down there, but that isn't what we want to do, too much hassle. We want to use the TV recorder which works on WIFI, and all the tablets and other wireless devices to work down there. Do you think this capable? Or would you advice another method. And, to add to this I want to have the ability to use wifi in my workshop at the other end of the property. The cabin is about 67m from the router and the workshop (armoured cable again isn't that far. I listen to my tablet through my ear plugs whilst doing my DIY, working on my bike.

      @KevinMuldoon  Před 2 lety

      Some powerline adapters do offer a wireless connection too, but I'd usually opt for a dedicated hotspot myself.
      For an older house, I'd probably opt for a good tri band router which supports a mesh network. This allows you to walk around the whole network and automatically use the strongest/nearest signal.

    a guy asked how fast internet is so he can have an idea of what the real life speed limit is. Saying fast was pretty unhelpful.. is it top secret ? (im assuming you have a 400/25 plan or something like this since it topped out at high 300s even on Ethernet direct) If you dont have a gigabit or faster connection would be nice to see a local area transfer speed test and see what is the max this thing will actually let you do.

    Just to be clear. Power line adaptors are not suitable for use with power strips/surge protectors (i.e. should be plugged directly into the wall). This is irrefutable.
    The manufacturers of these products are very clear about this. I am surprised such wasn’t spoken to in the user manual or perhaps you didn’t read the manual? I don’t mean to be cheeky but I am curious where the disconnect is on this point. I certainly don’t always read user manuals therefore I am not judging and it could simply be the case this detail was omitted from the manual

    • @KevinMuldoon

      The plug it self has an emi filter built into it so plugging your extension into the power line adapter should be the best option as that will filter out any noise from the extension (if you plug it into the next socket and have the extension into the other socket the noise from the extension might cause lower speeds unless the extension also has an emi filter then it won't matter normally)
      yep should never plug it into a strip (if its a lightning suppressor built-in they typically also have an EMI filter they can at times completely block the powerline from working, if it's just surge only with they typically don't have EMI filter)
      I got some cheap av600 powerline adapters and I need to replace them as they are capped at 40MB/s, so been looking around best price I have seen is 4x av1200 tplink for £80 (but i want one of the 4 to be wifi but most are asking for £60 just for the Wi-Fi powerline adapter)
