The NBA and the Lakers allowed this to happen because they would generate revenue from the first NBA father-and-son duo. Why should the NBA pass up on this opportunity? It will cause higher ratings and generate more revenue from merch, advertisements, etc, which also contribute to players having the ability to receive these max contracts. If you were an NBA owner, would you let your cash cow, who’s at the tail-end of his career, leave and go to another team? The NBA does well when the Celtics and Lakers do well or have drama to sell. Remember, this was not an appealing draft class to begin with.
