This is truely spectacular riding. He does the impossible! Aaron Gwin winning the Leogang world cup run after breaking his chain right out of the start gate.
For real. We need multiple angles at 4k resolution. These people are athletes and we need to start giving their sport the respect and attention it deserves through quality production.
That is right, but also the suspension works better without a chain, there is no pedal kickback. His win was combination of many factors. The track itself is steep and does not require much pedaling, the suspension is better, and of course Aaron's skill to make it work.
It works a lot better without the chain. You don't have the legs fighting the travel via the kickback and the chain fighting the mech tension. There might be less sprung mass also making it more reactive.
Can you imagine how deflating that must be to be at the world class level and be beaten by a guy who coasted the entire way, beaten in a bike race by a guy who never pedaled the entire course.
It was achieved by never braking. The guy was only able to pull it off with extreme talent and reaction speed. If he had made a slight mistake on any of the turns he would've lost (easily) 0.5-2 seconds, WITH a chain, let alone the momentum he would've lost without a chain (not able to build up speed again), easily could've taken 5 seconds off. He pulled it off, but I wouldn't be deflated, just impressed.

Around 10 years ago I was starting as a rookie for the IXS German Downhill Cup. Sam Blenkinsop was driving with Aaron Gwin for team Yeti. At the lift, they both were in line infront of me and I got to sit next to Aaron, who had starting number two and was not so well known then. We had a nice talk and he was very friendly giving me some tips and trick, but deep down I really wanted to sit next to number one Blenkinsop. Oh boy, little did I know what a beast Aaron Gwin would become just a few years later :D
this is no doubt the best downhill run of all time. it's the dream run of every downhill rider, NO PEDALLING! it embodied the very core value of the sport of downhill, to dont ever pedal in a ride.
Ok that was a pretty nice run by Aaron but I'm blown away at Claudio's hawk eyes and his extremely rapid diagnosis. How did Claudio know it so fast ? 😳
That first pedalstroke just looked off, like his gears had skipped. Instantly followed by Aaron looking down, a blown chain made sense. But yeah, Claudio knew because it's probably happened to him.
All you need is 1 gear single speed get enough speed of that gate let gravity do its job don't matter if chain falls off just control the bike properly look mum no chain lol
Meet a guy from Canada visiting bike park at Christchurch new Zealand, chainless, no brakes at all no levers on the bars, forks leaking on his Scott absolutely ripping hitting the 40ft jumps with easy 10 ft to spare. Laying out flat whips and then full 2 wheel drifts into the corner landings. He reckoned dirt was softer than concrete ffs!
That was so dope the watch. Slow is fast! 🚵💨 Having no chain, I imagine keeps you super focused on riding as smooth as possible with the least amount of resistance.
John Ganshow but they don't. They would have to change the uci rules and the tracks, which is a huge challenge. And also, its not even a bicycle anymore if you can't pedal it...
But it would be fun to see a race like that and get the riders input, it might start a trend. Trying something new is how trends start. It's called being open minded and thinking outside the box...

MTB is one of the sports that dessperately needs to be recorded at 60 FPS
they need to improve the production tremendously. we miss big parts of the run
For real. We need multiple angles at 4k resolution. These people are athletes and we need to start giving their sport the respect and attention it deserves through quality production.
@Trey Bryant definitely, have been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself :)
this just got reposted in red bulls top five runs of leogang
this was 2015 so we should be good from here on out. most phones record at 60 now
It's almost as if by losing the chain his riding style changes to absolute full send to keep momentum and speed. Nice.
could be a new training strategy
I bet he barely rouched the brakes, if at all, knowing he'd nit be able to regain the lost momentum. Pure aggresion and commitment either way.
I think you're 100% correct.
No shit Sherlock lol.

He lost his chain, and it went all downhill from there.
Let me get that door for you...
I'm done! 💀

DAD!!! How did you get in the comments?
Very nice!
That must have been absolutely terrifying at times cause he knew that he would only have a chance if he limited his braking drastically, and he did!
you can also see just how he exaggerated his pumping, incredible!
"The suspension works good without a chain" LOL
Hahaha :D Aaron is an animal on a dh Bike!! Love it
He’s right though. They tested this on GMBN CZcams channel and noticed the same thing.
It works a lot better without the chain. You don't have the legs fighting the travel via the kickback and the chain fighting the mech tension. There might be less sprung mass also making it more reactive.
Power output more than offsets this though, he’s insane

I mean for him to win he took everything at speeds no one else dared - you'd take your hat off to him rather than be sour about loosing!
i guess winner is just too fat, so it heavenlier than pedal looser

The 19 thumbs down were from the riders who lost.

Why do people keep on blowing the whistle like he is disqualified?
The whistle is to tell people he's coming, so if maybe someone's on the track they get off

Thought there was some new chainless bike tech being used. Nope, just a broken chain
The chain must have been too short.
