I'm already super happy with the planetary gear sets coming in Toyota's hybrid transmissions... first time I've ever been happy with an automatic knowing it won't be shifting like garbage 50-100k miles of ownership... they shift the same at 500k miles as they do at 1 mile... no gears to strip and multiple clutches to wear out. Other manufacturers with hybrids, be weary as their transmissions may have belts, etc that easily break e.g. Nissan; won't have the same dependability as Toyota's hybrid systems... they are not all created equal and Toyota from the 1st gen has done excellent with their hybrids in terms on longevity and reliability.

@BMW should be banned from using the word "quality" given their demonstrative history or poor reliability of even newer low mileage vehicles with minimal wear. Poor QA:QC combine with non-moisture sealed electrical connectors and wires sitting on sharp metal edges that tear through insulation and cause shorting etc.

in a lot of cases, BMWs caught on fire either spontaneously or from accidents. hybrids is new technology so it will a lot of time mastering it, unlike turbo engines. all cars within these few years will be turbocharged or hybrid, but im talking about small hatchback every day cars. however, the most reliable of them all are the naturally aspirated engines, so thats where reliability kicks in so dont worry about your turbo diesel, unless youre from europe because within a couple of months diesel cars will be banned for good

Nah, Honda's hybrid is a plain old generator-motor pair. Good for high power applications like locomotives and ships, but not very efficient in cars (though still better than a pure petrol car).
Toyota's HSD is a sweet spot - the clever placement of planetary gear and two motor-generators allows for CVT-like precision, making petrol engine run at optimal RPM no matter the car's speed by adjusting the speed of electric motor. It's about 10-20% less energy loss and better fuel efficiency compared to Honda's.

Greatest failure of auto industry is hybrid evS dead weight of petrol while driving in ev mode n dead weight of battery while driving in petrol mode isn't a big concern i think weight reduction tends to greater efficiency R&Ds just waste money no outputs we have to work on Archimedes principles engines have to generate more power and waste heat of engine is also to be used not only in air conditioners as well as power generation traction given to every wheel can provide better stability center of gravity will be distributed after putting dead weight of battery unstable design , inertia regeneration is must to reduce power consumption and engine has to be smaller and input switching is to be done because electric provide greater starting torque n engines can handle running torque after getting speed quick boot engines which can be started n stopped in fraction of time reduction in weight improving efficiency we r not only looking for zero emmision but also greater range n stable vehicles use of reinforced HDPE and composite chassis can be the solutions And microchip or mobile fone sized control units can spare some pounds infrastructures for modular battery 🔋 setups on every 30 km reduces breakdown then we can call it an effective efficient zero emmision vehicles
