- Graeme cooks up one of his favourite eating fish - the humble Dab. Often served at breakfast years ago it needs little preparation, is easy to grill, and tastes great. They can be caught from boat or shore, generally worm baits or tiny strips of mackerel or squid put you in with the chance of one.

Yes!!! Only just started this one and over the moon to see the anchor lamp. I bought one for £20 in Tony's tackle few years ago after seeing yours, he laughed trying to sell me some bloody head torch for loads of money ha! Needless to say I had the last laugh couldn't believe how good the lamp was so I bought 3 more on ebay as I was living in a shed with no electricity at the time. Thanks Graham
the nigella lawson of piscine cuisine 😀 looks fab , thanks graeme.
Nigella...Mmmm !
Very nice! Thanks for the tips.
Oh my I’m drooling, my all time favourite fish, nicely done as ever Graham👏👏👏
Well done Graham, love your videos they always keep me entertained whether I agree or disagree with your methodology of fishing cooking or whatever. Well done mucker .
Best way to cook Dabs! Agree. You are never going to catch a 5 pounder but they cook up whole and simple to remove the rack. Used to catch them in Largs Bay. Fantastic
Nice one Graeme! Dabs, Plaice & Mackerel - my favourite eating Fish! 😋😋 Just needed a few home made Chips!
Stay safe & well! 🎣🎣👍👍
Love a dab, very very good eating fish
Thanks for sharing mate, by far the best way to cook them for sure :)
Now I just have to find how to catch some more.
Perfect! I always follow the guideline of 10mins cooking time per inch of thickness. I love cooking any fish whole bone-in. Get much more depth of flavor. Here in New England, USA we catch some pretty big sea robin(gurnard) and I love cooking them just like you did with that dab, only I'm doing it in a basket over coals on the bbq. But that cooking method works for everything from oily fish like mackerel & bluefish (taylor) to wrasse to flatfish!
Fire- salt & oil!
Sometimes they taste better whole than being filleted,I reckon they are cooking in their own juices, which makes a difference.
Marvellous, thank you . Nice one showed off Eastney just this week, not too short from our club record of 1lb 5oz. Great eating. Stay warm .
nice one Graeme that dab looked pretty darn good.
Looked lovely
Looks delicious 😋
Thanks for posting, it's interesting how many species of fish are overlooked for the pot (both sea and freshwater fish) and as someone who is very, very ignorant, I appreciate you posting videos on this topic as it sheds a whole lot of light on my ignorance. Thanks again, and take care. Nick
My dear old nan used to live in Ramsgate, a treat she used to make for us grandkids was fried dabs, with hit buttered bread, simple but delicious, The dab is a great tasting fish, beautifully sweet meat,
Beach up our way (talacre) where dabs make up most of the fish....i fry both sides and add a sprinkle of soy sauce for the last minute,
Yum.
Caught one this afternoon Graham, mine was only half the size of that lol, great channel
Totally Awesome Cooking ! is there another series planned
Its not filming them its catching them that's the problem...might do others though,so keep watching.
The best tasting fish in the sea
After this video I think I might have to target dabs on my next trip. Thanks again awesome video
Brought my 4 boys up fishing them (Flat fish) off of warfs here in Atlantic Canada. Wonderful tasting fish for sure.
That's the proper take home size dab Graeme. Don't let anyone say different.
“Quite a rare fish to catch on the south coast”!!!!!!!!
So let’s kill it and eat it lol😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I had one last week i did fillet it and did it in a light batter OMG they stunning :)
Dabs and Plaice are two of the best tasting fish in our waters.
Keep it simple...👍
Very nice 👍🏻
My favourite fish to eat, ahead of lemon sole.
Never tried them unfortunately. I do like the taste of Plaice , especially fried in blackened butter...yum
Here in Texas, gut, leave head and fins, cut some slashes and season. Broil, bake or fry. Yes, it is the best eating fish. And when 2-4 pounds, good sport and fun to catch.
I never knew they got them in the US of A...sounds like they grow much larger than ours.
Been trying to catch one for the last few weeks on south Devon coast can’t seems to get one
Great video graham 👍
Ps think your safe mate people stopped darning in the 70s 🤣
Wow, what great timing when zooming in on the skin breaking apart.
I would like to claim superb photographic skills but it was honestly just luck.
I've got two in the fridge from this morning, was going to fillet them...but not now, thank you.
That was fan DABby dozy 😁
A good sized Dab ? absolutely top scoff.
Best fish i eat in Ireland was megrim like a cross between a dab and a sole gorgeous
I must say I have never eaten Megrim, but the next one I catch might be worth a try. I guess cook them whole like the Dab.
Dabs are just one species on my list of fish I'd be happy to catch, but 40 odd years ago they were almost a nuisance. Cod, coalfish (where I live anyway), plaice and flounder are all red letter day catches for me.
On the other hand, gilthead bream, red mullet and trigger fish are annual catches now which would've made the cover of the angling press in the '70s!
Its all change with different species turning up....I can't wait for the Billfish...
CHEERS GRAHAM LEGAND AS USUAL GRANDFATHER
I just wish dabs would grow bigger, one of the sweetest tasting fish in uk waters. Is that an old anchor light you are using?
Correct,an original Anchor,350c.p. though I think they used to sell a 500 c.p. version.
Had to work out what type of fish it was. I thought it was a small flounder or sole. I guess it would taste quite similar?
The Sole would usually be rated the top eating Flatfish but think the humble Dab is up there at the top as well.
@@TAFishing love to try it if I manage to get to the UK.
Did you use a special Dab rig?
No,just usual whackernoster or the silly rig..just small hooks really.
Little did that poor dab know that he was going to have his fins chopped off smothered in salt and olive oil, eaten and pooed out in less than two days. Poor sole 🤣🤣
Haha..he was in the wrong "Plaice" at the wrong time.
@@TAFishing haha you clicked on..Good man. Anyway mate love your vids..wish you lived a little closer. Id love you to fish my local river trent.its a mighty river but some of the biggest barbel are in there. 👍👍
Norfolk beaches salted worm three hook flapper they love salted worm and they don't want to be fresh either or cast far out
I know sometimes they are the only species that will take an old worm bait. Lugworm or Ragworm, they don't seem bothered.Maybe a degrading worm gives off more scent ?
Did anyone else look at the thumbnail and think Graeme was gonna be getting his bong out? Nope? Just me? I'll see myself out...
Me too I was excited to see his rig.
Dude I read the beginning then looked at it and was like the hell kinda concentrate is that . To dam funny
Ha ha 😂. I thought the same 🤣, hot knifeing or buckets 😃. Can you invitation ( the old sea DOG ) Greama. A couple of glasses of wine or Beer, and he's away with the FAIRIES 🤣🤣😝
Perfect addition to a fishing trip
@@USMichigunPrepper that would turn your fishing trip into a fishing trip
Cheers Graeme ... is there anything you can’t do 🤔
Fish with 5 sections of pole of a stillwater. I'm just used to casting and reeling.
Cut the fins off both sides? Shouldn't that be top and bottom?
Flatfish are so confusing. 🙄👍
Did anyone claim it's not a good fish to eat? Or is that just an expression? 🤔
my mother must be turning in her grave, when caught if you cut the head off all the guts come out with it, she would put the fish in a pan with some butter, we never had enough money for oil, use the tail to turn it, put it on a plate, then peel the meat off with a fork, and eat with salt and vinegar and some bread and butter, cant beat it, also a dab sarnie is to die for
Yum!😊
Loads off norfolk coast... just need small 🪝 's
