However heterosexual I might be, I think I feel a sort of a platonic love towards you, sir.

One thing about the metering switch: One would never have to set it to off since the meter would switch itself off automatically when no light got into the system. Hence the battery would not be drained. OTOH, using the BC position would quickly drain it. We had an SRT 303 - basically the same as the SRT 100x with some minor amendments and a different viewfinder screen - and never used the battery switch. The battery, however, lived for ages.
As for the top moving part in the mirror box, it was one of the big selling points of the camera series, dampening the mirror shock. Another selling point was the introduction of the first kind of centre-weighted matrix metering system.
The SRT series was gorgeous [as was the XM and later the XD series]. While the x700 was a technical marvel, it always lacked the coolness factor, the special BAM the older series had. Unfortunate. The original first autofocus design, the 9000, had it, the 7000 and 5000 not so much. Let's better not speak about their successors.

Good review of a good camera. This looks the same as my SRT201. Is it the same camera with different model designation for the UK market?
Is this Pentax Pete from apug? It's nice to put a voice to your face after seeing your photography and reading your thoughts for several years.

Thanks for the link, lots of information there. It seems they are different cameras, the SRT100 being a smaller version of the 101 and the 201 the follow-on, slightly modified 101. I have several of the later X-body cameras, but with their electronic controls, the mechanical SRTxxx will probably outlive them by a long time.
