@@Kevinsgolfcarts I have a G16. I see one grease fitting for clutch sheve but there is suppose to be another. Cant find info yet on lubing. I was getting a rattling noise last fall letting up on gas, just trying to figure things out.

Your video was very helpful. I like when people just talk about what they are doing period, and not stream of consciousness talk just filling in gaps. So I'd say, just tell us what you are doing and leave silent gaps, they are okay.
I just picked up a 1997 G16A. It is a conglomeration of a gas chassis and an Electric body. it runs but needed tie rod ends and shocks. The carb/breather box was held on less than finger tight... I removed the nuts with just my fingers and a strong gas odor when it was running... shocking right?. I've been watching a lot of your videos to get familiar with how to work on these carts along with downloading the G14, G16 shop manuals and the G16 Owners manual. I like that you talk us through what you are doing. Thanks

Since finding your channel my Club Car turf 2 has been rejuvenated to become a key work vehicle around the cottage towing boats, carrying loads of stuff and acting as a mobile work bench. That's awesome! I'm glad you were able to get your cart up and running. Those Turf 2s are amazing. I have an XRT, which is the factory lifted version with 4 wheel drum brakes.
@@Kevinsgolfcarts I also saw your video where you installed the back hydraulic lift. It is on my list of to do’s. Is it still working as well as in the video or would you have changed anything about your installation.
I would rather it be a shorter cylinder with a scissor lift, similar to how dump trailers work. This electric linear actuator struggles a bit since the angles aren't optimal. When I load the box up to the max, I have to assist by lifting on the box while running the actuator. I want to change it all over to hydraulic with a remote. Club Car does offer the Turf 2 with an actual hydraulic lift but I'm not able to locate it complete without the cart.

Thanks for the wealth of knowledge on your channel! I have a 2001 EZGO Workhorse and the clutch isn't fully engaging the drive belt causing some slippage. Do you have any EZGO clutch videos?
Just thought I'd update, the slippage was just a belt. The previous owner had replaced with perhaps a cheaper knockoff belt. I found the proper p/n for the belt that in the manual is called a "Severe Duty" belt. Since replacement, it has solved my slippage problem. She's a beast now.

Kevin, when cleaning the carb on my G16, the head of the part in the "throat" of the carb broke off. I am not sure what this part is called...perhaps "main nozzle"? In this video, you indicated they sometimes do not want to come out. Hence, I was not able to clean this part. Is my only option to replace the carb?
Without trying to source out a new jet, your only option would be to replace the entire carb. They are inexpensive and sometimes when you find replacement parts, they are almost as much as a whole carb.

I love the narrative. Very helpful and informative. I have a 1996 G16A. Your videos have helped get it running. How many pumps of grease do you put into the clutch?
They only need 2 or 3 pumps. Every oil change, add 2 more just to keep it well lubed.

Great video Kevin. Called myself cleaning carb just like you did and I have 2 questions. Does one of the jets not have a thru hole? And my G16A runs at high speed but spits and jerks trying to go low speed. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Great video Kevin. Was wondering if you could do a video on great oil change. I'm leaning all this golf cart stuff. Should I change it out. I bought a used Yamaha g16 changed the oil, fuel filter and air filter. Adjusted and cleaned the brake shoes. Was wondering if I should change the great oil? And also how to do that. I like when your explaining what your doing at you go. I'm a do it yourself guy. Not an expert. Thanks again
I will be doing a video on a transaxle oil change eventually. It won't hurt to change it out as it should be done every 4 years/1000hrs/5000 miles. This will give you a fresh service schedule. It uses SAE 90 gear oil, under half a quart. Most of my customers don't use their carts enough to do it and put a 20 hours a year on them.

Kevin. Any suggestions on the clutch removal tool is too long? Frame is in the way of using it .
That's a bit unusual. You may have to unbolt the rear shocks and drop the sub frame so you can get the clutch tool in to the tight area.
Would have been very satisfying to see you clean up the engine compartment after all of that work!
Time is money and most of the time, customers don't want to pay for it. They "just want it running".
Very informative. Thanks. My G16 runs great when you first start it up, but sputters after several minutes, like it's not getting fuel. I've changed the spark plug, fuel pump and carb. Hoses???
Blow out your vacuum hoes that goes from the fuel pump to the base of the engine , that vacuum makes your fuel pump work and it get plug up with muck !!!

I have a G9 Yamaha. When I am starting off on an incline the cart does not want to go. Any idea of what I can check or do to fix ?
I have a chirping noise on my 2002 Yamaha g16 at low speeds and seen on another video that it may be the primary clutch rollers. Would you agree with this and if you do, would you suggest just changing the rollers or buying a after market clutch since they are only $169? Thanks

I prefer to hear you talk so long as it is referring to the project. One item for improvement in my humble opinion is you get so involved into what you are doing, you hands leave site of the camera.
I have Yamaha g16 that constantly backfires after driving for a bit any clue what it could be? It has new carb, fuel pump and lines
You may have to adjust the valves. Adjust them to .004" on a COLD engine. Make sure the governor is adjusted correctly and not over adjusted. If its over-revving the engine, starting and stopping could cause backfiring.
thanks for the great info, I'm looking at a 98 Yamaha gas cart, not too familiar with them only club car. do you have a preference at this time on the two brands with reliability and parts availability?
I'd go for Club Car if you want new. Either brand is good used.

Comments and questions: I like your nerration while you work. I don't know why you didn't clean out all or the trash and leaves as you were r&r the serious components. You commented that the fuel line was plastic and had no clamps yet you reinstalled it as it was. Is there no oil filter?
I didn't want that mess on my shop floor so I power washed this cart off camera after the repairs were done. I usually wash a dirty cart before I work on it when I have time to let it dry and wash it after the work is done so I'm not getting wet while working on it. I don't video record everything, especially when I need to get things done quickly. Yamaha's do not have engine oil filters.
This takes me 3 days and a day to recover.
What battery do you recommend for gas cart? Please
Yamaha up to and including G29 is a group 24, EZGo and Club Car are group 26. Some use a side terminal group 70, but those suck and are more expensive

Hi I just got a 1996 yamaha golf cart with a 301? Not sure just going by the stickers. Can you show us how to rebuild the front clutch? Or is is just cheaper to replace it?
There are no plans to rebuild any clutches. I have not had any reliable luck with rebuilding them. Many times there are other parts that are wore and cannot be rebuilt. In many cases, its just more cost effective to replace the entire clutch. You will need a clutch puller to remove the drive clutch from the engine.
Kevin- do you have to use an air socket to remove/install or will a normal socket wrench work? Thanks

There is an adjustment screw on the carb (not all carbs have adjustments). In most cases, it has a very limited range of motion.
Please narrate LOL do you recommend jetting the carb up a size on the original g16 mokini carb?
I recommend keeping it as stock as possible.

Unfortunately, I don't deal with aftermarket bodies. There isn't a demand for it where I'm at so I don't really get into dealing with them.

I thought the vid was great....I mean if u have the same cart this is much of what u need to know. I have a long question for you...I just looked at a 1997 G16A that is a little rough around the edges. Long story short the owner says it ran 6 months a go ( not sure I believe that ) but now he turns the key and goes to start the machine with the gas pedal...the engine makes noise but doesnt start...but when he turns the key off the engine is still making the cranking noise....he literally had to remove the batt cable to get it to stop and the drive motor was smoking near the wire connections. He has had drive motor rebuilt....new coil...new fuel pump....new battery. I am interested in the cart because I can get it for about $1000 as is......but I dont understand what could be causing this freak scenario.....is it because maybe the clutch is frozen? Maybe mouse chew on a ignition wire? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Sounds like the solenoid is sticking in the on position after power is removed. If he installed a cheap solenoid that's not rated for continuous duty, then it will do that in a short time. ALL golf carts with stock engines require continuous duty solenoids. The cables going to the starter/generator must be wore and breaking at the terminals. If he smoked the starter/generator, just replace it. Its not worth messing with it, especially if you don't know the real history of it. The only thing in there to rebuild are the brushes and bearings. Everything else would have to be rewound. If it didn't start and was sitting for anything longer than a year, it probably has debris or water in the carb. That's easy enough to fix by removing and cleaning the carb. Without the cart running and driving, I wouldn't go any higher than $600-$700.

Thank you very much for your reply. Around where I live it very difficult to find a cheap cart. This one is a little rough but has some pro's. It has a lift kit installed.....a light kit.....and a dump bed in the back.....also large knobby tires. If I knew the cart could run again for a few bucks without getting killed on the $$$$$$$ I would go for it. I am handy and can clean the carb...replace belts....starter motor....solenoid....and maybe even a clutch. Sorry to double up on my questions but if I still have your attention can u give me a cost estimate for a solenoid.....a drive motor.....and a clutch for this 1997 cart. I know I might not need all of these but I am assuming these are the expensive items.......Given its current state I dont think I can do a compression test on it....but if I could what is the good psi range for compression on these carts. Thank you!!!!!!!!
@@jimv1484 I'm not sure what you mean by "drive motor" but if you are referring to the starter motor, they are correctly called "starter/generators" They start the cart and then after 650 or so RPMs, they generate to run the electrics and charge the battery, just like the alternator in an automobile. Drive motors are typically in electric carts. Starter/generators and clutches are about $200-280 each. Compression should be around 150-175PSI. Solenoids would be about $80-$100. Most people don't want to spend the money for oem solenoids so they buy cheap ones and they usually fail soon after. This is just my experience. I would start with a new solenoid, maybe some new 8 or 6 awg cables for the starter/generator and go from there.

I have to choke the dikins to start mine. ,what is the low speed setting or is there one. Filter clean and new fresh gas.
Pull the carb and clean it and check the flow from the fuel pump.

why don't you power wash it before you work on it I would But mine wouldn't be that dirty anyway
Love the knowledge I get from your videos but why dont you pressure wash it down before working on it. I pressure wash my cart down every two weeks just do to dust. That is the only thing I dont understand. I like working on a clean motor.
Sometimes washing a cart down can cause more issues that are not related to the original complaint. If someone comes to me with an electrical issue, washing the cart will make finding that issue harder. I only wash a cart if someone requests it. Some people are weird about washing their cart.

Yamaha engines are splash lubrication. Only engines with oil pumps typically have oil filters.

Make sure its not overfilled with oil. These engines hold 1 us quart. You will also need to do a compression test to determine if the engine is due for a rebuild. It sounds like its wore out and needs new rings.
