    A really good primer and review on the Whoop 4.0 - thank you! I am waiting for mine to arrive, it has finally shipped after 4 months. Looks like it will do exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks again for the review - much more comprehensive than a few others that I’ve watched.

      @@larock0wns yes, I am still using it - for 10 months now. I really like it - it does give me very valuable biofeedback. However, I don't schedule my training according to high recovery days but the information on sleep pattern, HR, HRV, and respiratory rate are very interesting. Also the 'strain' data on different workouts. I'm a cyclist, and mainly train to heart rate.

    The main reason I bought the whoop 4.0 was that I wanted the data, but didn't want a smart watch. I wear mechanical watches daily, and have no interest in having a smart watch, so this just made sense. I also have built a home gym during COVID, so this will essentially replace my gym membership fee. I also like the ability to wear it on my bicep, so when I have to go to customer sites for work and can't wear wrist or finger jewellery, I can still get my data.

      @emirgundogar79 Před 2 lety

      Different point of view. Very personalised view, you consoled yourself of a way of using it in a way. For me, there are needs and wants. If i can get the same data for free from Garmin, plus the smart watch speciality, i don’t want to pay monthly fee for whoop as if i’m paying electric bill or water bill 💯. There are wants and needs. Don’t get yourself carried away on I.G phenomens that much.

    • @serious69er
      @serious69er Před 2 lety +3

      @@emirgundogar79 that's exactly it, right? It's personalized. I have no interest in a smart watch, so paying $25/mo for whoop really is just a drop in the bucket when compared to the price of high end smart watches ($700-800). Sure, the data may be free, but the up front cost is significantly higher, and then there's always planned obsolescence to worry about.

      I ordered the Whoop for myself for the exact same reason. I used to have the old school Jawbone fitness tracker bracelets, have had a Fitbit too, I want less to take away from my mechanical watches. Just received today, charging right now - looking forward to seeing how it goes.
      (I bought the 18month package, and one for my girlfriend as well, little lump of cash to drop upfront, but gives me 18 months to work out if I stick with the Whoop or move onto something else)

  • @MelBeKing
    @MelBeKing Před 2 lety +14

    No matter how much I'd want this whoop I just can't justify paying a high monthly premium on top of my gym membership when I can spend one flat rate for a device that's comparable if not better in its feature set. If they modified their model to lets say 80-100 for the device itself and then 5 bucks a month for the feature set I'd probably pull the trigger, as it stands now the only way to justify spending 200+ a year for this is if you're the type of person that wants the next new device provided they have an annual product cycle.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 2 lety +1

  • @ozziejed
    @ozziejed Před 2 lety

    I have the 3.0 (signed up for 18 months since March). Waiting on my 4.0. It does the job for me, and I'm not bothered by needing a subscription. The subscription means they can continually update and improve the app and device. I have it on my right wrist and had my watch on the left, but my Garmin watch battery died about 4 months ago (I only had it two years). So I run paired with the Strava app at the moment while waiting on the new Fenix.
    Also, you put the 3.0 battery on the wrong way. If you align the whoop on the battery to the top and slide it towards the whoop on the band at the bottom, you should have no drama getting the battery on and off.
    Appreciate your reviews and content; keep it up. Unfortunately can't use many links as I'm from Australia.

    I had a Whoop 3.0 and loved the data, but once I got my Garmin Fenix 6, I realized the data was close enough, the body battery was close enough, and I wanted to have smartphone notifications and time on my wrist, so I was always going to wear a second device with the Whoop. If I was going to wear a full smart watch anyway, there was no point in wearing the Whoop when the Garmin has close enough functionality.

    Very informative video as always. The subscription business model is really hurting them. I know dozens of people who were pretty interested in it when they first heard of it, but soon as they learned it's a subscription, they lost interest. You can get a fitness band with an Amoled screen, and 5 days battery life for 60 bucks nowadays, I think they should've made it a 80 - 100 dollars purchase at most.

  • @jonspencer40

    I have been wearing my Whoop for over a year. I have not received my upgraded yet. As the video says I have found the heart rate function to be inaccurate. Usually it over states the heart rate and overstates the daily strain when exercising. When I do cardio or lift weights I also use a Garmin Phoenix 5 paired with the Garmin chest strap. The Whoop will overstate my calories burned by 100 to 150 on a workout and if I run around 4 miles as much as 200 to 250. I just chalk it up to the chest strap is always going to be more accurate. The watch without the strap is equally off. When not exercising the heart rate seems to be accurate. The reason I stick with the whoop is not for the exercise function but the other things is measures. Recovery, RHR, HRV , Respiratory Rate and Sleep. I do rely on these to let me know how my body is tracking for the next day or the week and it compares my 7 day average. It absolutely help me know when I need a rest or I can push it for the day. I don't think I could stand not having that information. I had covid last December and my respiratory rate spiked when it started and by day 3 went back to normal which was in line as to how I felt. It is a $30 monthly subscription ($24 if you pay annually) but for me it is not as much a workout tool as a it is a body analyzer.

    G'day mate,
    Looking to see if you might have a opinion on choice.
    I've been umm-ing and ah-ing over a whoop band for awhile now but am still fairly uncertain.
    Not sure I can quite say what I'm uncertain over but the feeling would probably be themed 'worth'.
    To fill some background I'm a aspiring sprint athlete and currently have a garmin 245 music from 2018 I think. (I say this because I believe the model has been updated since)
    Recently I've been closer than ever to making a choice but decided to look around once more and find out Garmin now has a body battery system that seems to rival Whoop.
    It would seem that either way I would be in for acquiring a new device as my current Garmin would not support the body battery system.
    I understand with Whoop you are mostly paying for the metrics it provides but given with Garmins load metrics, HRV recovery, and now body battery system does one now outwiegh the other or are they even enough that price is now the deciding factor (endless subscription vs one time cost)
    The main aim for me is probably the recovery aspect of the tracking
    Thanks for the video coverage and info

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 2 lety

      It's kind of subjective. The Whoop system is pretty unique and provides a lot more data than Garmin's body battery and the sleep tracking is far superior. If I over exercised, I was usually beat up for the next day or so. Now there are devices to confirm what I always knew. Where would we be without all this technology? Had my 4.0 for about a month now, and while it's "good", increasingly it tracks very close to my Garmin body battery w/ my Fenix 6S so I'm honestly not that sure what I'm paying for. Depending on what the Fenix 7 looks like when it comes out, I'm going to find it a bit hard to justify the Whoop 4.0 unless they start leveraging the new sensors in the next 2-3 months. My subscription runs out in March, and it looks like they aren't going to do a discounted Cyber Week sale on subscriptions this year. If they don't that might be enough for me to bail for now.

    Not sure if they only did that for the influencer packages? (really shady on their part if so)

    It is inaccurate that you get the 4.0 as a subscriber!! I went back and forth with whoop and they would only send a 4.0 if I signed up for an additional 6 months. I have already paid a lot of money for a year subscription for a wildly in accurate device and with 6 months left in my subscription (at the time of 4.0 release) I was not willing to pay more money for a gamble on a device that might be marginally better. I would have extended my subscription if the new 4.0 was better and they had sent it to me as guaranteed for active members. They obviously do not have the faith in this device or they would let it sell it's self rather than locking you into a subscription with a bad device.
