Anti Sptreptolysin O is the full form of ASO. ASO Titer test helps in the diagnosis of rheumatic fever , post streptococcal glomerulo nephritis & Scarlet fever . Increased ASO levels indicate that the person had a streptococcal infection
Method of testing ASO :
1. Immunoturbidimetry
2. Latex Agglutination
Immunoturbidimetry is more accurate method to test test ASO levels.

What could cause a persistent high titration of ASLO? I've had it at about 1200 for a few months. Throat swab showed Streptococcus Pyogenis of 10:8. CRP and RF normal. No symptoms of rheumatoid reaction. Yet I've seen a rheumatologist and he prescribed me benzil penicillin shots 2.4, 1 per month for 3 months. After a month I have 900 aso, so it went down a bit. You Sir said aso indicates only past strep infection. How can persistent high aso titles be explained than?

ASO antibodies are produced about a week to month after initial strep infection . The levels usually peak about around after 5 weeks and then gradually taper of . This tapering off will seen ever after several months after the initial infection .
So in ur case they will come down gradually . U just need to stick on to ur penicillin shots as recommend by ur doctor .

My ASO titer result shows 800 UI/ML and it doesn't go down or up. I take the test every 3 months but nothing changes. What should I do?
So If your ASO level heigh, this means you recently had infection by bacteria? Jus to indicate that? No harm right?

i've got blood test yesterday, and what was written with the ASO Results was Strong-reactive what does that mean, Positive or negative?, i don't have a throat problems, wish you will replay me?
ASO results will indicate only a past infection not any current infection . Throat culture or a rapid strep test is an ideal test for acute throat infection

U are testing in a lab where the testing is done by semiquantitative method . means the serum is added in serial dilutions where they mix ur sample with reagent at several dilutions like 20, 40 , 80 160, 400, 800.
I would advice you to go for quantitativeestimation where they give u an exact value . most of the fully automated methods give u an accurate value .
check with ur lab.

I have positive ASLO for 4 months over 400, my symptoms not specific but general mild pain everywhere in the body and mostly chest, and i have chronic fatigue and headache also tinnitus,i have lymphadenopathy servical size 1cm, i have also chronic throat inflammation without pus. I did throat culture 2 months ago and just found staphylococcus aureous. my symptom started with cough for 1 month and then cured. is it posibble if I got rheumatic fever ? or are there any other infection that cause my symptoms ? does TB could cause positive ASLO too? thanks in advance for your explanation...
No TB will not increase ASO titres . Coming to rheumatic fever , for its diagnosis u need to have multiple findings and not just the presence of fever and increased ASO titer . Speak with ur doctor regarding the rest of the ur symptoms . Nothing can be said with out physical examination and detailed clinical history.

U just need to check with ur doctor / rheumatologist . Increased levels are most likely due to Streptococcal infection Most likely they will keep u on some medicine. Levels will only taper only after several months of infection

Aso positive sir acute rhumetic fever. I take medicine aspirin, penilin for 3 months. When will rectify this problem?

I have been having problems with my throat (tonsil infections to be exact) for my whole life. When I was 10, doctors told me that they dont want to take out my tonsils unless i had the tonsil infection at least 5 times a year. I had 4 that year so they didnt take them out.
Now, after 9 years (Im 19) i found a new specialist to finally solve the problem. After three blood tests of my ast count in 8 months period, the count never came under 450.
The doctor ofcourse recommends to take the tonsils out as soon as possible.
But I was wondering, could this problem that i have my whole life be a cause of other problems? And if so, which problems?
I know that it can cause kidney problems, which i’ve had this year.
But my constant fatigue, major depression and difficulties increasing weight? Could those also be the sypmtoms?

Your persisitent high ASO indicates that you had a Strep infection and nothing more than that. Correlation with all the symptoms you had your whole life should be done by your doctor after a thorough physical and gen examination . Speak with your doctor regarding Anti DNAse test also for confirmation.
Strep infections can lead to a specific kidney disease by name glomerulonephritis .These complications are rarely seen in the western world when compared to the rest of world. Most of teh complications can be attributed only in untreated step infections. Speak with your doctor whether you have any symptoms and investigations suggestive of glomerulonephritis.
Fatigue , weight gain and major depression are highly non specific symptoms and can be seen in a plethora of disorders. Your history of strep infection cannot be blamed for the current symptoms, however your doctor needs to figure out only on clinical examination. Let the expert take care

It only indicates that u have a past infection with Streptococcus .Results need to be correlated with ur current symptoms. Check with ur doctor for further info
