- “Quit living in the past!” That's what people say. The here and now, and planning for the future is what matters. Sometimes the past is comfortable, though, and us humans cling to it and try to keep it alive. No community wears their rose-tinted spectacles with more pride than the gaming community, and countless modern games have banked on nostalgia to win the hearts of misty-eyed gamers the world over. Colourful 2D platformers, pixel art RPG adventures, blocky “boomer shooters” and more have graced modern platforms in recent years, proving that the market for retro-style games is thriving. The thing is; making an old-school-looking game for modern consoles is just entry level nostalgia. Having the dedication and bravery to release brand new content for long defunct platforms, that's the ultimate testament to a developer's commitment to the retro scene. Here are 10 Modern Games That Were Released on Retro Platforms

OMG OMG OMG! I am the guy that helped Sarah Avory with Briley Witch! I did all the portraits during the dialogues and many sprites too, retouched here and there and even created the cats for the manual, not to mention beta testing! I'm proud to be her friend... ❤ THANK YOU SO MUCH for including it... My heart jumped through the roof when I saw my art on a Triple Jump video! 🥰 First real JRPG on the Commodore 64 baby! (and there's a sequel available too!)
Thanks! I also helped with the art!
Very cool!
Honorable mention to the next Shantae title, which will release next year on the GBA. It’s what the intended sequel to original game was supposed to be before they had to shelve it due to lack of funds and they had to go on to make licensed games to keep the lights on. But then Shantae got big when they rebooted the franchise over a decade later and they had the bright idea to do this gimmick and so I’m getting a new GBA game in 2025 lol
Oh yeah, here we go, list time!
I've seen a TripleJump list video before, so I'm going to give it my all!
Played Deadeus on Evercade, it's extremely effective in the horror department despite the limitations of its hardware. Pretty interesting story too!
Glad to see one of Sarah Jane Avory's games being mentioned in this list.
Intrepid Izzy is a fantastically fun platformer. Looks great, plays great, and just a blast to work through.
I needed this today thank you.
I was expecting a call back to Grimace's Birthday in this video. Maybe in a sequel list.
I've never been attacked by a duck. A goose one time, but never a duck.
Great video idea! The community is always coming up with awesome "new retro" games, but it can be hard to keep track of the good ones.
absolutely bloody love the word titular this lot.
Driving Strikers is another good one for the Dreamcast and it can even be played online
I'm surprised Deadpool or Akira for the NES didn't get mentioned.
As someone who still has my Ouya hooked up and running, that jab hurt lol
Thanks for the gunlord tip, downlo.... checking it out right now :)
Heh, I bought Pier Solar for my Xbox One about 8 years ago, and still haven't gotten around to playing it.
Something I feel should be mentioned about Xeno Crisis: The banger soundtrack. If Perimeter (Area 1) doesn't sell you on the game nothing will.
Rugrats just got an NES game very recently.
Living in tn near ark border everyone who i talked to who went to ark for the eclipse said traffic was atrocious and saw absomutely no evidence of the nat'l guard.
Micro mages and twin dragons (Both made by the same studio "Broke studios') are fantastic new NES games. The Atari Jaguar also has a MASSIVE homebrew community. Too many new games to list and more in development.
Gunlord x looks amazing 😍 I love when triple jump surprises me.
Where does the delirious sound clip come form
I liked the phrased "forged its own identity" because it sounds like "forgery" and made to confuse people like me who dont speak english as their mother language.
Demons of Asteborg not being on this list is a travesty
These are the most entertaining type of games.
Too many BITS! 😂
These games are like the old version of Itunes. My games are like the new version of Itunes, they're going to be around Foreverrrrr.....
Oh my god, I'm going to die someday!
Is flappy bird an InfiniteJump?
SonicMania es genial
They ask us to leave comments. But i know full well they don't look at the comments 😂 love you boys
🎉
Yay❤
What's the game at 0:26?
Ion Fury
@@mudachaproductions Thanks!
Are you gonna do worst and best games of 2024
👽
Attack of the pesky robots?
You forgot tanglewood build on the old mega drive engine in 2018 and was released as a hard copy
The Vita retro? I'd consider it less retro than modern systems that force you to be online to play offline games. That right there is backward design.
Big insult to Gen X, to call Doom a "Boomer shooter" Boomers played pong.
At the same time, it's nice to be ignored while Boomers, Millenials and Zeds fight amongst themselves
