- A short description of creating a gorgeous patina on cold rolled steel sheet using products by Sculpt Nouveau. As a professional furniture maker, I am always looking for new ideas and materials to work with. Patinated metal is, of course, not new, but this process is new to me. It was really easy and gives exciting results with loads of potential colors and textures. Holzman Custom Furniture. Idyllwild, California. www.noboringfur...
Really cool job friend!
Hmmmm ........ Very interesting! Thank you for sharing! I'm going to give that a try to a sheet metal project that I'm working on right now!
That looks great, what a wonderful idea!
I've always wondered, does the rust/oxidation serve as a stable surface for the clear coat to adhere too? Are there any issues with peeling?
I really want to do this process on my guitars, for custom metal pickguards.
great job/video
I buy it at Universal Metal Supply in Riverside. If that isn't local for you, contact the company and ask them for local retailers.
Wow, exceptionally cool. Now I'm thinking of exterior landscaping applications...
I also want to try it on mdf ,,do u think we could get similar appearance,,..😊
Hi Pete, I'm not sure if you're still answering questions on this post. My husband and I are thinking about doing this to our kitchen cabinets. It is so beautiful and different. Do you have any photos on how you attached the metal to the doors? Or could you tell me? Any information would be great!
I just used contact cement. Coated the substrate and the back of the metal, wait until it dries (but no longer than a couple hours) and put them together. You will not be able to move it once it's down so make sure you've got it in the right place. You can use a slipsheet of paper or multiple 1/4" dowels to hold them apart until you are sure. there are probably youtube instructions on how to do this.
Old post I know, but wondered if this could be used on a wall behind a freestanding bath? What kind of lacquer/varnish would you recommend...would it hold up to splashes etc? thanks
Kerry Wang It should work fine. I just used a spray lacquer, don't remember the brand. It should stand up just fine to water. Spray about three coats and use a good quality lacquer.
Hi i'm juan from Argentine, here we are not able to find sculpt nouveau products, this is not the first time that I watched this product in a video, and I want to reach this kind of products, do you know if there is a craft made to do it? thanks in advance
what green patina did you use? vista? universal?
How long did you let the patina product sit prior to rinsing? Thanks for the great video!
I just waited until it was dry and then sprayed on the lacquer. You can rinse off, but, at least, in my experience, rinsing gives you a more subtle effect. Since you are spraying on top of a powdery surface, you'll need to put at least three or four coats of lacquer on.
Pete Holzman great thanks!
What is the name of the product you used to clear coat it? Thanks.
Just a clear spray lacquer, no particular brand.
where ca I buy the patina that you were using?
Where can you buy pieces of sheet steel?
I buy mine at Industrial Metal Supply in Riverside, California
I'm in the process of restoring an old wood stove. It is mostly cast iron, but the sides are sheet steel. What gauge sheet steel would be appropriated for something like that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
When you said green and yellow, like the actually paint color or...?
+Frank Rizzo That's just the name Sculpt Nouveau has on the bottles - Green and Yellow. They've got dozens of colors.
+Pete Holzman Thank you for the reply and beautiful job. I am constructing a steel sculpture and I want to put a really cool looking patina on it. Im open to ideas and yours look awesome. The sculpture is a female with wings.
+Frank Rizzo Make sure you check out Sculpt Nouveau's web site and videos on you tube. Lots of great ideas. Good luck with the sculpture, sounds awesome!
are these sculpt nouveau products available online only?
No, there are some retail sources. I buy sometimes at Industrial Metal Supply in Riverside, but you would have to check with SN to see if there is a retailer near you.
