  • Simple rustic style oak beam from some air dried sawn timber. Great way to put the new planer thicknesser through it's paces!

    Stunning. Something so meditative about the rough crappy wood going in and the beautiful smooth grained wood emerging.

      Just searching for reviews on the planer myself. How did you get on? Would you recommend it?

      I have had one for two years, keep it lightly oiled on the height screws with wood checked for metal if reclaimed and it will last. Major tips, keep extraction clear and platen level and light passes planing you will not be disappointed 👍
      Same blades from new and still going

    A Scrub or Roughing plane would quickly give you the hand hewn look you're going for.

    You could make a video of hoovering the carpet and I would probably like it :)

    Good work Tim. I’m after something very similar for my new fireplace. Would love a wood thicknesser. I’d be planer wood just for fun.

    The music early on in this video is a bit reminiscent of Norm Abrams New Yankee Workshop . Is this pure coincidence or am I imagining things?? Whatever, I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work.

      Coincidence, pretty sure the only similarity with my amateur wood working and Norm's is the music! :-) Love those old videos!

    Lovely job that! You've got to do an oak frame build at some point. I did my garage a couple of years ago and it was such good fun, would live to do another one one day.

    I was just wondering how u was finding the triton planer? Do u get any snipe? I love oak its just a gorgeous wood ive got a stack in my garage and im goin to try and build a cloakroom storage bench for my porch but it needs planing as it all rough sawn lumber and i was think of buying a triton plane. Atb i love all ur videos been subbed a long while many thanks adam

      @TheRestorationCouple  Před 6 lety +1

      It's great. Still not got through teh marathon session of planing that I have stacked up but it will fly through i am sure. There is some snipe but I am sure that once I have tweaked the outfeed level and possibly make a sled I can reduce it alot. Just sending through an offcut of the same size ahead of the work piece stops it.

    im saving for one and want to get one .

      Working out great for me. Not had any others to compare to but for the size it seems the best buy. Had planned on getting a planer/thicknesser combo so I could joint too but think I can get away with most things using table saw or router plus this.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  Před 5 lety +1

      Can’t beat it for capacity and value for money. 👍Only thing is that you get a fair bit of snipe, though you can tweak beds to improve. Chip extraction is ok but occasionally blocks, (maybe due to my lack extractor though).

    Be careful how you site the beam. I did exactly the same as you, mounted the beam above the fireplace, ready for the wood burner, and was told that it did not have the required height between burner and beam. I had to replace it with a concrete facade. Good luck to your brother with this one.

    *Rustic-style. It's not rustic if you manufacture the imperfections yourself

    Decent and interesting video, but that "music" is horrendous. Way too loud, distracting, unnecessary and just simply awful.
