Rides by Kam Custom Car Building Tips: Protecting Custom Underbody Work

Rob Zahabi from Rides by Kam shows how to protect your custom underbody work from the elements.
The setup and the products (00:55)
See the work done on this car and the products applied. We use 3M™ MSP Seam Sealer where pieces of steel aren’t completely welded, followed by 3M™ C Guard Protective Coating to protect from water.
Pro tip: Using 3M™ C Guard Protective Coating (02:12)
Etch prime out any bare steel first, then treat it like you’re painting the exterior of a car so it bonds to the underbody. We choose this water-based product because it’s much easier to clean up. It comes in several colors and can have color painted over it.
Seal the sill extension (02:55)
Seal the inside of the sill with 3M™ Cavity Wax Plus & Wand Kit. The wand has a 360-degree spray, so as you pull it back it seals all around the inside.
Important note:
There are of course many factors and variables that can affect an individual repair, so the technician and repair facility need to evaluate each specific application and repair process, including relevant vehicle, part and OEM guidelines, and determine what is appropriate for that repair.

3M, I want Rob Zahabi to know that his passion for using “Best Practices” to complete the job with these products are the most over looked must have procedures that everyone from professional collision shops to the major restoration facilities overlook and never talk about. Some do, but if not shown, talked about and done, the job is not finished. This video only tells me that 3M has the right product and Rob has the knowledge to apply them because he has a desire for perfection as near as one can achieve. Thank you both. His work over months and your products have a place in my heart for doing it right! I will spend money for a good steak at the grocery store when I can afford it, but skip the expensive organic bell pepper if I can save money. The point here is doing it correctly, and that task has been accomplished!
