    For those that aren't horn players, or those that are but have not performed this piece, it must be pointed out how strenuous a piece this really is. There may not even be an instance of a full bar's rest in the entire work! The only respite for the horn player's embouchure is the occasional drop into the lower register where he can regain the blood flow to his tiring lips :)

    I cannot imagine that could be performed any better. What an amazing accomplishment to know the horn so well that you can perform on that level.

    So many critics.... Great job!!! Can hear the piano just fine! Actually the balance is good between Horn and piano, so I don't know what people are talking about.

      tootendatuba I made the erroneous comment about balance. I deleted it years ago. It was not criticism, it was a first impression. Mea culpa.🙄

    Amazingly expressive and confident performance. Tone is beautiful.
    And as a horn player, I am gratified to know that someone else encounters the "notes around staff B natural through above-the-staff G cause most mics within 50 ft to freak out even if they are theoretically set well within SPL tolerance" problem.

    • @thomassicard3733
      @thomassicard3733 Před rokem +1

      This is the solution to that problem:
      Use 2 ElectroVoice RE20 mics. Yes. That would certainly do.
      Hey! Check out the amazing EV RE20 mic.
      I have blown the walls down, right up against that mic, playing my Bb trumpet (B&S Challenger II - the phatt sound, with a Schilke Symphony Series M1* mouthpiece - it don't get bigger), and had NO DISTORTION, whatsoever.
      Talkin' recording Morricone's Good, Bad and Ugly... blowing the walls down... paint shredded off the walls... ridiculous volume.
      Get the right mic for the job.

    Bravo David! You have done well, Grasshopper! This is the piece by which I evaluate all horn players (for what it's worth). I wish for you a wonderful career in Chi Town. Keep Bud and Jake and Dale in your ear and you will not only survive, but thrive. I look forward to hearing you for years to come.

    Great piece, great sound, great execution! I don't know why so many are complaining the way they are about this piano and his playing. So what, the lid wasn't up. It can still be clearly heard, and no, he "might as well as played a capella." Gotta respectfully disagree on that. Anyway, great job! Enjoyed listening! Keep it up!

      Melissa - I was an idiot to say that - Absolutely incorrect! Will be deleting my comment and this Reply, if you would acknowledge it! Thank you. David Cooper now plays with the BPO!! If you have an interest in the horn, you should join the Facebook group, "Hornpeople." It's a closed group, but I'm sure they will accept your application to join. If you use Hornpeople's "Search" function, you will find many marvelous performances by David. Hope to see you there! Marcy

    Mr. Cooper: SUPERB PERFORMANCE!! Please take a look at my comments about the performance of this piece by Mr. Farkas. It's a rather long comment, but will be gratifying to you. Skip the comparison I make between Farkas and his accompanist, and read the detailed laudatory comments I make re Farkas's flexibility, etc. Also, your tone is World-class! I hope you have listened to Brain's performance of this piece (here on youtube); both of you have remarkable phrasing! Flawless performance (yours too). I believe there was a whisper of a near cracking of one note, but tell me what you think, OK?
