…I quite literally cannot find any Hetman rotor oil on Amazon
I like to put a little graze of oil on the threads of all my caps to make sure they don't seize, not even a drop but just some on your fingers and then rub it on, then tighten it with a "torque setting" of as tight as you can make it only putting one finger on the cap. Also, I like to put a drop in the lead pipe to have a nice thin layer protecting the brass from corrosion, but it should be done prior to cleaning the main slide so that you can get the oil off the slide and make sure it's nice and greasy rather than oily.
Wonderfull. Thanks.
Ion's cleaning method is so no-nonsense and practical yet very thorough.
Thank you for this production, Mr. Cooper. I became a fan of Mr. Clevenger's in the early 80s when I was a young hornist. I'd chat with him when the CSO came to Milwaukee for performances. He (and Barry Benjamin) are my horn heroes.
Wow! I would love to play like that in my dreams! lol

i taught myself to play horn 😭
I watched this a couple of times, I made that common mistake dropping on rotor from the valve slide and horn become like under station, slow so I had to wash everything and start all over...
David, did you ever send Eric a bottle of chill pills for Xmas? Hmmm...why do I even bother asking? 😂
Beautiful!!
Played French horn from 6-12 grade. 5 years later now I own my own French horn. Love it and was dying to play again. Want to join an orchestra because I have a huge range. And it all sounds great.
❤❤❤
Wow the trombone really chose Jay Friedman
wow!
Uh, sorry David...but since you managed to bumble gaining tenure at Chicago after doing the same in Berlin, you may want to change your opening line.
Bravo 👏👏Thank you
This looks so much easier than what I was told.
bravo...
Hello there! Do you have the contact for Jeff Nelson? I have a question for him.

I play trumpet in an amateur symphonic orchestra. More and more I get frustrated that the rotary trumpet seems a must for the German romantic sound and then there is the need for a baroque trumpet now too. Both instruments are very expensive. Aside from that, the trumpet is in Belgium mostly popular for jazz and big band if one wants to have jobs. So being able to improvise and play lead (high) is a must too. It's a strenuous instrument IMHO , I would never be a street musician with a trumpet. Playing for hours?? I just can't. So I see how a French Horn can happy a happy marriage till high age with all the other, more aristocratic instruments in our orchestra and physically it's less hard. I love tone, looking for it, trying new fingerings for optimal intonation all the time on trumpet too so I am about to give up further ambitions on trumpet.(keeping it though) I think about buying a cheap F horn for beginners (500 euro) and normally with such a deep mouthpiece, the construction on the horn should be forgiving. Perhaps some notes will be more out of tune then on an expensive instrument.
Great video, and wonderful close ups, really appreciate the camera man work! Really appreciate this. 🙏
Good information! What brand of case is that?
Yo tengo la fortuna de tener una foto con el ❤️
This is not aimed personally at you but all professionals. Why can't you continue these wonderful videos post covid?
To all this where for regional auditons, the excerpt starts at 4:53
Why do they look so miserable when the music is so good?

I’ve started playing again after nearly 50 years. It’s definitely a challenge.
I like how you arranged the pick up microphones for the horn and the piano to record the full tones of both instruments. Also the cube you had placed so the acoustics were the best for the performance. You have a very nice "horn" sound and it seemed effortless and clean and dynamics were the BEST. Love to hear you play.
I like it but I still like Brains better: czcams.com/video/RlaYXUVm7LM/video.html / He's a bit sloppy at the beginning of the second movement.
Good
What a lovely, kind and moving video David. Thank you for posting that.
13:15 I love how they play this section- the pianist is quite gentle, fading with each recurring chord.

thanks! i might switch from trumpet to horn soon! and I went on a field trip actually and i saw the chicago symphony orchestra! u guys sound really good!
may be after my reincarnation i will be able to play as beautiful as you mr cooper
Okay sooo- I'm sitting in my room playing the French Horn because my music teacher said I had talent.. I JUST SWITCHED TO THIS FROM CLARINET- HELPPPP
im switching from clarinet to french horn in the fall! How are you finding it?
@@itsaldrena It's pretty easy until you realize there's 50 notes for one fingering. The embouchure is the most tricky part, but other than that- get yourself a fingering chart and you're good. :D

Chicago misses you, David.

personally i prefer to just drench myself in oil, like olive, and then it just gets to all the places on the horn it needs to go. Salad dressing works in a pinch.
This is THE interview that changed my mindset as a hornist and helped me in so many ways. I heard it several times when I first stumbled upon it. Am very grateful to David and Wolfgang for unselfishly sharing their deep knowledge and experience with us. Recently when I tried to find this video again, I couldn't despite many different ways. Then I found out that the surname of Wolfgang is not spelled Vladar, which it should be. If David could so kindly correct it, that would be great. Thanks again for bringing the knowledge on this beautiful instrument to us.
I'm going to call you David Cooperfield because you sound so magical.
and it had a stinger. perfect. one day this kid is going to make it.
