I saw another tv news report that said the officer stopped “several hundred feet” away, called dispatch, informed them of a major accident with injuries & advised that he was “trapped” in the car.
The officer went through with the right of way on yellow & that the bike apparently had flashing red which means that it’s like a stop sign.
The bike has to stop & can’t proceed until it’s safe. Poor guy on the bike probably assumed that the officer had a flashing red ans would stop. However, I do agree that when going through a yellow like that ppl need to slow way down because they can’t see what the other light is doing. Sad case. Hopefully there’s video in the police car to show what happened & how much further the officer drove. At least he called it in immediately.

Qualified Immunity would not apply here. There is nothing preventing him and the city from being sued by the family (probably worth about $2-3 million in the lawsuit) and the cop can face criminal charges for felony hit and run. Qualifed Immunity only covers a cop if they mistakenly mis-apply the law in an arrest and the arrest was made in good faith. In other words, the cop does not really know the law and mistakenly arrests someone. Even then, you can still sue the cop but in this case, it is not a crime.

@@Dat_Sun That is because crimes were dealt with harshly because legal systems did not exist. It used to be you could be thrown in jail for defaulting on a debt. They were called Debtors Prisons and they do not exist anymore. You want to go back to a King or a Mayor calling all the shots?

@calvinhobbes6118 That's basically modern times when you step back and look at the big picture.
Where I live is a great example. Where you are might not be so much. But everyone around here is capable of self-defense and self aid, or aiding others. Everyone is armed, and we all know each other to some degree. Our community watches out for each other. This has been lost in the big cities or 'kingdoms'. For them, there is no lasting solution. All cities fail when they eventually turn to corruption and tyranny.
There will always be bad guys, has been since day one, and there will be until humans last days. An armed society is a polite society. Disarming them, softening them up and making them dependent on cell phones and 911 is not a lasting solution. Law enforcement has reached a tipping point where corruption is spreading like stds in the armed forces. They're more concerned about king's numbers on your license plate over unvetted illegals flooding our country to register for voting without I. D.
      Justice for Savannah.

If that was a citizen, who left an accident with a fatality; they'd be in lockup- immediately.

no because the "peace officers" are actively attempting to cause civil unrest through police brutality and lack of code enforcement so the civil war can start quicker. So he should not be arrested. They're just doing their job exactly as they're trained, & not trained.

malfunctioning lights or non-working lights are treated as a 4-way stop.

That is incorrect. One road had flashing yellow lights, the other had flashing red. You do not stop for a flashing yellow.
