Fans hate when a player doesn’t work hard on the pitch! It wasn’t about the missed free kick, that was just the culmination of most of the season for him

@vortexathletic Sterling has never been loved or appreciated... Liverpool fanatics can't accept he left the club.
City fans were spoiled, overlook Sterling's 130 goals/95 assists, and love Grealish, even though he'll never contribute what Sterling does.
Sterling joined Chelsea just as the club was in disarray, with all the senior players and manager leaving... Gallagher was horrendous against Leicester and nothing from fans.

As “poorly” as Sterling has played this season, he still has 8 goals and 10 assists with more than a quarter of the season to go. Has he been spectacular? No. But he’s contributed more than the media and fans realize.

    • @backupdancer3720

@Photosoflife Gallagher played most the season as a #10 and only has 2 goals (both against Palace) and 5 assists (one where Mudryk took the ball from Gallagher against Newcastle)...
Only 2 goals and 5 assists, yet Gallagher is absolutely loved... His performance against Leicester was shocking, and shows how difficult Enzo's job is in that role.

No one is angry at Sterling for "a bad day at the ofice", it's him not passing when he can, not tracking back, concistently missing 1v1s. This stuff builds up. We understand that he's not on form rn, but then it's on Pochettino to not play him, but when he moves Mudryk from 10 to the wing so that sterling can see more of the ball then takes Mudryk off, you can't expect fans to be happy about that.

You could argue that he was showing leadership by taking the responsibility off a young player and putting it on himself. His only crime might be a lack of self awareness, to realise he's not as good at penalties, but his heart might have been in the right place. I didn't watch it, just a neutral fan for context. I just see how my own teams fans over react and get almost everything wrong in the heat of the moment.

So drop the argument and I don’t think you’ve personally spent millions. Secondly, no one forces anyone to go to watch the games, which by the way can go either way. I think fans of this club frustrations are directed at the wrong people and the expectation for the team to perform better is muddied by the fact that a lot of money has been spent. These same ‘fans’ were calling for the head of Mudryk and Gallagher just a few weeks ago. Let’s see who they will harp on next because it is in their making.

He’s also not had a bad season, he scores or assists semi regularly and we need his experience considering how young the team is

And as for Burley to the thing about “putting the team on (his) back” in his personal story…
No one is asking for Sterling to put the team on his back. But missing a penalty, sending an easy chip for someone of premier league forward quality wide right and not even hitting the target on a one-v-one, and then skying a free kick to White Hart Lane is a far cry from being asked to put the team on your back. It’s asking him to do the basic a footballer of his quality should be able to do

They really expect me to watch a sterling who is very comfortable at Chelsea now on those wages and being very close to his family but we’re not allowed to boo him because when he constantly stinks up the gaff we are just supposed to back him like sheep. Also remember Palmer & Gusto are on over 200K less than him but you see what to back from them even in defeats. Fans don’t pay money to watch that just for a Craig Burley who doesn’t have even like club to tell us what right or wrong. No Offense

Fans are booing him bc he’s being the most selfish player on the pitch consistently when he should be leading this young group but instead is acting and playing like a youth player.
    1. Throws a fit earlier in the season and tries to take Palmer off PK duties when everyone in the team knows it’s his job. Then this game decides ohh I’m taking the PK, not Palmer. What kind of leadership is that!? He should be the on picking up the ball and giving it to Palmer and give him the confidence to do his job, instead selfish act again
    2. Will look over players wide open and proceed to dribble into traffic, lose the ball, and then give you nothing to try and win it back. The amount of assists he could have when he’s on a break and all he has to do is square it is ridiculous, instead selfishly tries to force himself into the spotlight 24/7
Sterling deserves all the boo’s not bc of poor form either, it’s bc he shows no humility and never once tries to be a senior leader in the squad when he’s one of the most decorated players in the side. Ridiculous behavior

Sterling not being able to strike the ball is one of the dumbest false narratives in the history of football. These pundits just repeat the nonsense that other so-called journalists writes. And before you know it some kid is on social media spreading that nonsense. How can a player who doesn't know how to strike a ball score over 100 goals for a club where he was consistently among the top goal contributors.

What a rubbish take on this
The decision to leave Sterling on and take Mudryk off was booed. These clowns ignore it.
A player having one of the worst performances in Chelsea's premier league era history was NOT taken off. He missed an easy 1v1, fluffed a chance and got LUCKY to be fouled for the pen, stole the pen off a young gun who is automatic from the spot, and kicked a free kick out of the stadium.
Mudryk was moved during the game to accommodate Sterling who wasn't doing much on the left. Sterling keeps getting picked and prioritised over a squad full of young attacking promise that need the minutes.
The booing is mainly for the manager.
(Yes some will boo Sterling, but he's brought plenty on himself too with selfishly never passing for tap ins.)
