  • This is the build slideshow of my Pilot. I have not yet taken it on any rides because i am still working on the carburetor tuning. Once i have it dialed in i will try and get as much footage as i can of me riding it as well as onboard footage!
    Engine mounts to install this rotax engine can be purchased from my friend at www.farr-offroad.com. That engine mount on his site i personally helped build. It is very strong and alows direct drop in of a Rotax engine with Seadoo downdraft carburetors.
    He also offers bumpers, disk brake kits and other awesome parts. check out!

    Cool to come back to this vid. Nitro was part of the inspiration to rotax swap all of our odyssey fl350s. Started with 583s and now have 2 with 670ho's 1 with a higher compression 670 and 1 with a 617. Also 3 are long travel .

    @nitrosport5  Před 12 lety +1

    Yup, just old school stuff. with the 670 behind me, the disks are a nice addition to get this beast slowed down quick!

    thanks for the compliment. I went with the TRX Spindles and Hubs to have the front disk brakes and 4+1 wheels (close to stock offset to reduce feedback in steering). The stock drum brakes are okay if you adjust them all the time, but i like the convenience of the disks

  • @nitrosport5

    They are quite different. Certains parts interchange. The seats will fit in either one, but they are slightly different, the steering wheel will fit either one, but again they are slighty different. Most parts are different but there are a few that will interchange.

    I am an hour south of spokane. And i would say the pilot is much better than the odyssey. Suspension is better, they are liquid cooled stock, ect. If you had to choose between the two i would say a pilot all the way, but they are much harder to find and usually much more expensive. a decent pilot you would be lucky to find for under 4k, you can get a decent fl350 for 2k if you look hard enough

    3 of the fenders are still available from honda dealers i believe. the right front i think is discontinued. The side panels are discontinued as well as foot tub. You may get lucky and find a set on ebay but expect to pay lots. I got my fenders while they were still in stock.

    THe engine fits quite nicely. To make it really easy, contact my friend at farr-offroad (w w w . far-offroad . com)(remove spaces in the link), buy the engine mount that i helped him design, and the engine bolts in with the SeaDoo carburetors.other than that, you use the stock pilot belt and transmission.

    One like this? I built it. You can buy a stock pilot on ebay or craigslist sometimes. They are fairly rare. expect to pay around $5000

    Sorry I’m a little late but congrats on such an amazing build!! I have to say it is the best I have ever seen😍 are these go karts suitable for tall people?

    • @nitrosport5
      @nitrosport5  Před 4 lety +1

      depends on how tall. there are a couple things you can do to make a little extra leg room on a stock machine. Once i put the 670 motor in them the seats had to be slid forward a little ways.

    NICE!
    I wonder why Honda doesnt bring the Pilot back. Maybe with an XR650 single, or the new 650 twin only found on a motorcycle destined for europe for now.

    • @nitrosport5
      @nitrosport5  Před 10 lety +3

      Yeah im not sure why honda has not at least jumped on the performace UTV craze. Im not really sure if a single seat buggy would sell that well unless you could price it at about half of what a 2 seater would cost. It would be cool to see though. Even start producing this exact buggy again. It doesnt have bad looks or performance. Maybe tweak the suspention, install a 4 stroke to meet emissions but leave the rest alone. It works great!

    • @Winterstick549
      @Winterstick549 Před 10 lety +1

      I see these little single seat and two seat rails at Glamis powered by Suzuki GSX-R 750 and 1000 engines. I think they would be such hot sellers, but not everybody thinks like us do they,,lol.

    I'll try it with straight Neil Young- none of that remixed s*^t. I didn't mean it as an attack to you. I didn't think most people ever read the comments on their videos. We have similar tastes in other things, so please accept my apology. Best, Nick.

  • @johncourtney5538
    @johncourtney5538 Před 8 lety

    I like your idea for the engine mount. How thick of steel did you use? Was that bend tricky to get right?

    • @nitrosport5
      @nitrosport5  Před 8 lety

      I used 1/4" when I built the prototype. the one Farr off-road builds based on my design is 3/16". I think 1/4 is slightly overkill but its what we had on hand at the time. bend wasn't that bad. lined up the transmission straight piece, measured out the amount we needed to bend and heat the plate with a torch and bend. you can buy these mounts from Farr-Offroad.com now. it's based off of my design. pretty much identicle.

    • @johncourtney5538
      @johncourtney5538 Před 8 lety

      It looks like you welded those plates to tubing. Or was it solid round stock with a hole drilled for the bolt?

    • @nitrosport5
      @nitrosport5  Před 8 lety

      +John Courtney it was tubing with the inner diameter turned to be exactly the same as the pilot rubber mounts. this way I re used the rubber mount from the pilot engine. if I redid the mount. I'd make it use an off the shelf rubber or polyurethane bushing in case it ever needed replaced it would be easy to obtain

    • @johncourtney5538
      @johncourtney5538 Před 8 lety

      +nitrosport5 Do you like the +2.5 extended a-arm?. Do you wish you had more, like +4? How's the bump steer? Do you even notice it with the steering stabilizer?

    • @nitrosport5
      @nitrosport5  Před 8 lety

      +John Courtney no actually I don't. it wonders pretty bad due to the bump steer. I plan to build a bump steer kit for it. make the tierods pivot at the same point as the a arms. it should eliminate all of this. I don't have a steering stabilizer on this pilot. my newest build is a true long travel setup with a bump steer kit. it handles amazing and I haven't rode this one in a year because the other one works so much better. I also put power steering on the long travel pilot so the arm pump on long rides is virtually none. it is so much more pleasant to ride. awesome suspension, power steering and 125hp. it is unstoppable!

  • @vegasrased

    I picked up a rotax out of a sea doo. is it possible to put a clutch on that motor

    • @nitrosport5
      @nitrosport5  Před 8 lety

      +vegasrased I wont say that is impossible, but extremely difficult. You will be better off selling that engine and buying a snowmobile engine. It would save you tons of time and money in the long run. Plus, some of the watercraft engines had a wet exhaust system. its another thing that needs to be addressed.
