A short arthouse documentary about mental illness as seen through the eyes of Niklas Kvarforth of Shining. Cold Void is a personal portrayal of the man behind headlines of suicide, drugs and self-destruction. Addiction, bipolar disorder, passion and schizophrenia. I love his art but let's be honest, he's really self-aggrandizing here. Those people didn't harm themselves or kill themselves BECAUSE of his music. It's not like normal happy people killed themselves after listening to it, THAT would actually be the dramatic reaction he is talking about. Those people were most likely going to harm and kill themselves anyway but his music might have helped facilitate it or push them over the edge. Still an accomplishment, from his viewpoint, but his conclusion that his music affected them so deeply on a spiritual level to enact those behaviors is a bit much. Great artist, still.

If you look at the comments under songs shining has helped more people than it has hurt. I find it hard to see how music talking about how you feel on this level of understanding will end up in suicide.
If we have to be serious Blood on teh dance floor and Pewdo-wig had inflicted more pain and chaos than Shining. and their music is waaay shittier, which is also a net negative.
I think he can be such an edge lord. But he is a good enough musician to make me ignore that.

Meh most depressed people have told me dsbm makes them feel better because they can relate .. Idk about myself i can relate but i dont feel better.. I just like the music. But not once has dsbm ever made me feel worse. Niklas makes good music but hes the biggest poser in the scene. Anyone can cut themselfs and sing fuck i do it. Ivr got tracks with 1853 (lifelover/vanhelga) but not once have i talked shit like him. He says all this yet hes here and its obvious hes a family guy and wants to be there with them. True "suicidal people", dont last long at all. Because they actually want to die. Talking about dying doesnt mean anything..thats how i can truly say myself and many of you don't want to die.. We simply just lust for a better life.

I wish it was a longer Documentary, 20 mins or something like that isnt long enough for me and more content would of been better. Like a proper Bio of him.

I used to self hard but I realized it really was not necessary because it was not being able to communicate or feel feelings, so it just takes some effort of battling with emotions and expressing themselves without doing that. And as far as suicide goes, it really isn't necessary either to escape problems, because the problems may be challenging but the world always changes, and things always evolve, and work themselves out one way or another. Everybody will die, so I don't worry about it, try to forget, and forgive whatever its worth.

I can definitely say that Shining has inspired me to self harm. Definitely prob would have done it regardless either way, but many many times, I'd sliced myself up while listening to various Shining songs. 😂😂 I'd say yes, it definitely is pretty powerful art, like alot of DSBM is, but Shining has a "special" feel.. more than most others.

@@jeffweber7043 yeah I saw him in a very very small venue in Montana, One of those places where the stage is like two or three feet off the ground and you're right there in front of them. And he went absolutely crazy full-blown cutting himself starting fights with people puking, none of us in the crowd at ever even heard of them before and no one was prepared for any of it It was kind of awesome.

Yeah I guess suicide is an answer to depression and what not but so is getting strong standing up and getting help. As a artist I'd rather help a person to live a good and happy life.

The first time i heard the track "manipulation session" was the first time i felt fear in my gut when i was 15. Today I desire suicide more than ever, and I look to Shining/Niklas for encouragement to follow through with it. Im excited to say the least.

I’ve known people who are no longer with us. None of them are ‘weak.’ All of them were broken by circumstance and swallowed whole by the uncaring earth.
We are not monsters. We are people, and our lives have an impact no matter how insignificant they may seem. Niklas is a sad, confused manchild too cowardly to confront his own psyche, who wishes to become the demonic circumstance eating him alive. You deserve better than paralysis and stagnation under his pseudophilosophical spectre.
Self asking, journaling, reflecting, and praying is an option to curb anxiety, and to overcome addiction. Let's make to be honest. He creates a metal music which can harm for everybody.
That all just leads to rumination for me, unfortunately. If only prayer could help my life, but not much seems to come from it. I'm always in the same spot. Nothing changes. At least music brings comfort.
