    Gotta story...
I was in Japan during the USF4 loktests. I mained Elena in SFxT (and 3S), and in the loktests she was more or less just a slightly changed version of how she was in SFxT (they made a lot of changes since, by release she felt like a totally different character) and I was doing pretty well considering I barely played SF4 prior.
The machines were set up in such a way that there were anywhere from 8 to a dozen cabs, all lined up, back to back. You could be fighting any one on any of those cabs at any point as long as you were both free when the second player pressed start.
As luck would have it, the guy who sat directly next to me ended up matching with me. I managed to beat him, I can't even remember if it was close or a blow-out...
... all I remember is that as I was reaching my hand out to shake his, he slammed both hands on the control panel and then got up so hard and so fast that the stool he was sitting on just shot out behind him.
My cousin and a few other SRK posters I had met in line saw the whole thing and we were crying laughing. Japanese salt really is something else.

One time I wanted to play sfiv at an arcade with my gf. So we get up to a cabinet everything is in Japanese, i accidentally end up challenging the guy across from me. I felt kinda bad for stealing his spot, but I had an awesome date that night so not too baf

I mean I can't even blame people for walking away from an Elena pick though. Who the fuck wants to deal with that mess of a shitty programmed hurtbox.

I got beat by a old japanese tourist in my local arcade (in Paris). Bruh I lost 5-2 I never felt so proud of myself 😂😂 but local players here are salty too there's also a meta you have to learn.

I fought against a gouki player at round 1 once and i won a bunch of matches in usf4 and he keeps sighing and said good games until he decided to throw racial stereotypes and slurs at me with his friends when he left.

It's neat and all to recognize that salt over FGs is universal, but there's also valuable insight to be gleaned in how differently the cultures on average are expected to handle it. The Japanese players may slam their fist against the cab, they might get up and walk away at the sight of a certain character, but that passive-aggressive behavior is still a stark contrast compared to the stories of shouting matches and literal irl fights that pepper the history of arcades in western locales.

Pretty easy to understand why players would refuse to fight the umpteenth yun, rose or Elena in an arcade full of other possible interactions

It’s wild to me that people, full-on ADULTS, in Japan can actually get mad like that towards a machine. Like, I used to kick machines when I lost as a little kid but holy fuck. I couldn’t imagine doing that as an adult and in public. It’s a different story if you’re in a public tournament with your own controllers or sticks and rage throw that because it’s yours. But abusing a CABINET?? That’s OF the ARCADE??? Btw, do Japanese arcades ban people for that?

Don't need to learn BB to kick their ass when you can just kick their ass IRL, I ain't playin if you make me spend money on a dropped game my dude, that's 75 cents you're gonna be good for whether you want to or not

Chasing someone around an arcade to prove a point... sounds like some 12 year old goon bs. lol. Why cant fighting game players just have fun? If you really want to prove something, go do martial arts.
