- Feared by many, completed by few. The longest portage in Killarney Provincial Park spans 3 kilometers between Three Narrows Lake and Killarney Lake. This is the portage that keeps many out of the more remote areas of the park. Join Steve and his wife as the single carry this monster of a trek with 100 lbs of gear in under 2 hours.

I remember that portage well. Lots of creeks to walk through for the first 1 km.
No one forgets this portage 😁
Good one, you guys nailed it!! Good thing is your canoe seems not too heavy.
Canoe is about 40 lbs. For its length, it is definitely very light.
I worked on that portage for half of a summer in the mid to late 90s. We used to have a canoe pack on our backs, a day pack on our front and a canoe on our heads for The Race across the portage. Lol. Go faster!
That's cool. Did you actually put in the portage or just maintain it? And if you are the one who put it in then you are responsible for almost killing me 😂
Wow, that was a haul! Great video.
It literally almost killed me 😂🤣😂
Portaging, it is a love/hate kinda thing or perhaps a strange kinda addiction. haha! Have been turtled myself with a large pack. Laughing hysterically does not help one get up, at all! Thanks for sharing. :) :)
Hahaha...we couldn't stop laughing.
I have been there some times. Just for a small peaceful lake.
It's a beautiful park.
Consider having a line running from bow to stern, makes portaging much easier, you can just hold the rope in place, rather than try and deal with the swaying of the canoe with your arms in the air. Saves a lot on the arms on the long portages.
Great idea. I'm not a seasoned canoeist so these little tips help. Thank you.
Awesome video! Portaging definitely is such a love/hate kind of thing! I think it's the satisfaction of prevailing through it and arriving somewhere beautiful. Love how you filmed it. Well done!
I believe the term is - no pain, no gain! All jokes aside, if you can handle big portages, you will honestly leave the crowds behind.
Just did this portage this weekend in the pouring rain. Then did the pig the next day. It was brutal but totally worth it. Killarney is so beautiful.
Nice work! That's the only way in and out of Three Narrows. We did the same except up the pig and out the marathon...with my wife! And 6 liters of red wine 😂😂😂
This connecting portage is “the pig” right? My girlfriend and I will be staying on lake Killarney for three days this up coming September it’s our second year here so we are still novice&intermediate portagers. Do you think It would be worth it to day trip up to the three mile narrows for some fishing and site seeing if we’re staying on Killarney? Or is it to killer to go there and back in a day? Thanks 🙏
No, the pig is from Baie Fine to Three Narrows. It's shorter but more technical and steep. I also have a video of it on my channel if you want to look for it. The one in this video connects Killarney to Three Narrows. It is very long, over 3 km and will take you around 2 hours or more each way. I can't imagine doing a day trip there and back, and to be honest completely not worth it for the pain. If you are staying on Killarney, which is arguable one of the more beautiful lakes, do a day trip up to The Crack, Silver Peak, or even Heaven Lake. There is so much to do on that lake that leaving isn't worth it.
And to make sure I am clear, if I made my wife do this portage twice in one day, I would either be divorced or dead by the end of the day. Don't do it man. 😭
@@dariuslee1523 don't do it in a day trip. I did the whole loop in 36 hours and it was a lot. Started in George Lake went up did the marathon portage, three narrows, the pig, and then back through OSA, Killarney, George Lake. I would probably do it in 3 or 4 days next time.
i have done tha portage we spend teo days on Three narrows lake. most of that portage for use was flooded and there were part i was able to put my canoe in the water and paddle it.
Haha. That's awesome. Paddling the portage....
Looks like you were having fun :)
A special kind of fun 😁
Nice video! We want to see more stuff like this, eh!
Lots more coming!
You make the sufferfest look so easy :)
It's getting harder in my old age :)
Come on man you canoe only weighs 40 lbs we did that with old town canoes . They weigh 70 lbs and 80 lbs of backpack. Suck it up. Some of our trips north of Superior never even had trails. We would loose 25/30 pounds body weight on these trips . We were all in our 35 to 40 years old. Sure can’t do that anymore. Especially now we are in our late 70s but still canoeing . Thanks 👍🇨🇦
Do you have a CZcams video to prove it? 😂😂😂 J/K sounds like you are tougher than me!
You ate 40lbs of food?
Well, technically, red wine falls under the food category...so yeah 😁
I do enjoy the suffering. Make more suffering... I mean videos
Lol...more on its way!
