- Volantex Trainstar Epoch: SLOW HIGH WING TRAINER or FAST PYLON RACER ?!
AVAILABLE HERE: bit.ly/trainstarEpoch
Jason tries out the Trainstar Epoch. Certainly fits the requirement as a high wing trainer for anyone wanting to learn radio controlled flight...but Jason goes that step further and drops in a 4 cell lipo flight pack, because the ESC is rated for 4S, only to discover it will fly like a pylon racer ! Amazing the wings didn't rip off.
IMPORTANT: We do not recommend use of a 4S lipo pack with this model. The ESC is rated for 4 cells but the brushless motor is not and could burn out.

That bird most definitely LOVED the bigger battery! Wow....great little trainer and awesome piloting! Cheers! 🍺👍😎
Now that's pushing it to it's limits! A Trainer turned Pylon Racer. I think you just voided the warranty ;-) Very nice demo flight. See you in the Air!
Great Flight
That's an awesome multi purpose little plane.
Nice demo..very solid airframe
Thanks 👍
This is so cool !!
The reason there aren’t so many videos is because there is a Chinese wholesaler selling a cheap version of this with a similarly cheap controller transmitter which has no model number and is faulty. Every time you hold any stick to its maximum for more than two seconds it reverses all of the ailerons, rudder, elevator. And if that isn’t bad enough the very cheap similarly crappy Receiver has a faulty gyro and every now and again it goes into Parkinson is mode where the entire aircraft shakes because it was the rudder about 10 mil about three times a second.
I have persevered with this and got myself a spectrum DX6i and a lemon RX7 receiver because the airframe is very good and flies every bit as good as a cub .
If you are going to buy one I would suggest you get hold of a kit and fit your own receiver and use your own transmitter.
hi, Dom.
Am I wrong or the other model presented at the beginning, have you not tried it in this video?
Sometimes I have doubts about the language, (i'm italian you know) but if I have understood correctly it is always the same model trainer brought to pylon, modification that you do not recommend, with an extra cell in the battery.
in all cases with 4 cells, this model would show green mice to many other models.
Damn-tastic!
We flight tested the other trainer last week Zola. Video here... czcams.com/video/NJxZgWBAu_A/video.html Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Man why is there not more videos of this plane? It’s such an awesome buy with a plastic fuse, good power system and volantex quality, I can’t wait to get mine, hope Banggood gets it to me quick =)
Because there are not enough Companies Selling them for One...
Because it never arrives. Banggood has worst rep in delivering products. What a rip off.
@@eestevo23 you
Can find it on amazon
@@eestevo23 I've got over 500 orders from banggood over 5 years and they've never missed. I suggest you question whoever delivers your parcels Estevan. They're a great company to deal with.
Which 4c motor would you recommend?
Did the 1st one come with the controller?????
Bonkers!
I just built this plane and am looking forward to flying this weekend, the instructions didn't include a recommended throw angle for the control surfaces. Should I just leave it as it is with the full range or is there a typical angle for a plane like this?
A question like that infers you've not flown an RC plane before. My advice would be to find someone experienced who is local to help you. Full physical deflection would be bad idea. Maybe half that (at the very most) with 30% exponential but it could still be very sensitive. I'm used to that but an inexperienced pilot could crash and damage the model beyond repair very easily. Get some help.
Mine were set to medium. I set them to MAX and 20% expo. Way better :D
But its not a trainer anymore after you do that - it will be super maneuverable and require somewhat intermediate skills.
Can you give details of the RECEIVER you had in it??
I bought a kit with a transmitter the transmitter & gyro were faulty…and I’m having to change both and most receiver voltages don’t go up to 11+ volts.. Thanks.😔🙏🏻
I recommend Radiomaster TX16S uk.banggood.com/custlink/DmDpvy4wRB

Two Questions? I had the original Version of the Epoch called the Trainstar Exchange and The Battery Hatch would always Vibrate Off and the Tail Wheel Support Bracket would Break again and again....Do you have those same issue,s with the Epoch V-2?
Yes for both. I used hot glue for the hatch and mounted 2 magnets. For the tail I also fixed it with hot glue. Maybe fiber reinforced tape would work better.
how many meters he hunts, what happens when he crosses the border
I just bought the Trainstar Ascent, will that have the same 4s capability?
you can fly it with 4s but esc won't last
Problem i have with the Epoch are the spare parts.. such a shame they dont sell them.
can i ask a stupid question...? how do you know the status of the airplane's battery...? i am quite new at this. all i can do is set a timer for 5-6 minutes, and after that hope i have enough altitude at the moment i become aware that i have no power....i don't have this airplane, just some experimental "foamies", and a Futaba T6J
you can get a lipo battery checker one amazon, cost about 10 dollars.
You can buy a telemetry module for most radio's wich send you information about battery voltage. It cost about 10-15$. You can also buy altimiter module or speed meter module. Similar cost.
The motor is rated to fly on 4s.
Why saying that it's not.
I think that the ESC will fried when using 4s,but not the motor.
since when are 'low wings' mounted on top?
When you mostly fly them inverted! Hahahahaha
@@EssentialRC GOOD COMEBACK!
what is the difference between pnp and a kit ?
PNP comes with everything installed. You just assemble and drop in your receiver. Kits normally don't come with electronics (motor, ESC, servos)...but read the product page to be sure.
Hello, I don't have a 1500 MAH battery, Can I use an 11.1V 1300MAH 20C 3S battery instead? Thank you.
set your timer 1min shorter, instead of 6min just 5min
What’s the difference between the KIT and PNP version?
Kits don't come with motor, esc or servos notmally
@@EssentialRC thank you!
I cannot get mine to bind to my DX-7!!
spektrum only bind to their own receiver.
Did 4s do anything to the esc or the motor?
Eventually burnt it out the motor yes. No great surprise.
@@EssentialRC hope you replaced it with a 2200kv prodrive or somethin..now thats fun!
Where ever can I buy a charger for a 4s battery? Not on eBay?????
www.4-max.co.uk/chargers.htm
Can you possibly point viewers to what radio and, more importantly, the reviewer you are using?
(There are RTF kits being sold with crap electrics).
Cheers…
So what's better? This or the ascent?
I personally think the Ascent. It's bigger and I think that's important for general stability and it's easier to fly. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
@@EssentialRC Ok thanks for a fast reply! I see that the epoch has dihedral while the ascent is flat though. I thought dihedral was something you should have on a beginner plane?
@@anderskisen1375 Hmmm. I wouldn't agree with that. If you learn fairly quickly then dihedral doesn't allow an RC plane to roll nicely in an axial way. It does help with stability but I would personally prefer to learn with a flat wing and ailerons while under the tuition of an experienced RC pilot using a connected buddy transmitter. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
@@EssentialRC ok thanks! I just ordered the ascent. Thanks for helping me decide. Can't wait to start flying :D
Good luck. My only other BIG bit of advice is to join a local model flying club and pair up with an experienced RC pilot who knows how to teach model flying. Don't try to teach yourself down at a local park as it will end in disaster. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Hard to find parts, cannot find even the propeller. The parts that can be found are expensive. Not a beginner plane. Zohd drift is really great.
i found the prop on Bangood website
Anyone else flogged this on 4s for a while???
