    A video will never do the skates justice, it's truly something you have to wear and feel for yourself. The weight should have never been a concern to anyone outside if pro hockey. My only disappointment is durability. I have numerous signs of severe wear already and they are less than a season old. The liner is faded and peeling, the carbon fibre came peeling out of the box. Frustrating manufacturing issues you just don't see with the larger companies.

      Would you prefer something like ccm ft2 for $900 vs the true skates? I’m looking for that custom fit, but with durability issues, im scared I’m throwing money down the drain. I’ve had ccm 290’s for 5 years and they’ve been solid, but you can tell the stiffness is not the same anymore.

    I've been skating in CCM 50k for some time, and I feel very comfy in those. Skate maintainer suggested me to look forward to Verboro skates, but seems like those True skates are even nicer.
    Also, wanted to ask, is it possible to give away for sharpening blades only and have game/practice with other pair of blades, or sharpener anyway would need a boot to place that blade in and maintain?

  • @chrisb7780
    @chrisb7780 Před 3 lety +3

    My kid has the same type of foot shape Pavel mentioned whereas she has a very wide toe box and thin heel. She also has a very small ankle. The new TF7s and TF9s make a True skate a little more affordable. Boot is stiff, tongue allows good forward flexion and the skate is baked to her foot and ankle which reduces space in the boot. First skate to actually fit, even in a wide boot. To put it into perspective she's a thin 10 year old kid in a men's size skate and no other brand has been able to solve the volume issue at the ankles. The skate seems to be flat foot friendly and comes with added arch support foam for insertion if needed.

    Will be interesting to see what happens with steel for those holders. As far as I know, STEP was the only one making steel for those but since they got bought out, they may not be making steel for the TRUE holder anymore. TRUE might have to start making steel itself. What are your thoughts on that Pavel?

    • @tomokin777
      @tomokin777 Před 4 lety +2

      I did not buy them with extra protection, so I cannot speak for that, but I am sure even with extra protection, they wont be that much heavier. Please ask the manufacturer if you are really concerned. They are not cheap, so I know you want all your questions answered before you pay your hard earned money. But I can tell you this. Custom made boots are super comfortable after they are broken in.

    I just got the True 7x skates this week and for the first time pretty much ever, I could skate with only a light amount of pressure/pain but, was able to be on the ice for easily an hour. Next skate was pretty much completely painless. At my worst, I could only be on the ice for 5 minutes at a time, and at our beer league games I had to sit in the locker room for about 5 minutes after the games before I could even put shoes on because my feet hurt so badly. Almost quit playing because of the pain, and ended up just accepting that playing will never be painless for me, since I was never gonna drop 1k for VH/True customs. I have slightly different sized feet with the left one being almost completely flat and longer, so my right boot would never fit. Also finally feel like I have skates that are actually the correct size. For my hockey hobby, True making stock skates was a God sent.

Now that they done make them anymore, I tried 13 different pairs and the only one that is wide enough is Nexus 2700 EE which I bought last week. I had them punched, widen and modified but still hurt a little. I will keep trying for another month and if they keep hurting me, I will got with true skates.... At $1000 in Canada, it's hurts the wallet but hopefully not my feet. My feet are flat and wide so hopefully it will.work. Thanks for the video

    would you happen to have "duck" feet?
    I'm currently in a pair of OG Graf 709's EE++ that have been punched out like you wouldn't believe, and I can only recall once (that's once, in my lifetime) that I skated without pain (and that was probably something to do with a combination of cold outdoor temps and some dumb luck with lace pressure).
    I'm obviously hesitant to spend that kind of money again, especially when I can't even really skate at all (which foot pain probably has something to do with never really learning in the first place)
    I'm especially curious because of the leaps and bounds that regular skates have taken in the last 10-odd years in terms of their ability to be heat molded.

I have flat feet and you can’t tighten skates to much even if it’s molded to wrap around foot snug . Haven’t had issues with durability. But I just wish I didn’t have pain in feet . Other than that I do love the skate .

    • @jatollar
      @jatollar Před 4 lety

      I think I bought mine right before True bought VH, but I don't see anything other than improvements to the original design and aesthetics. I like a lot of ankle flexibility. I think he mentioned a slightly stiffer tongue which I wouldn't like. The skates are not stiff, but they are extremely responsive because they fit so well. The lower is carbon fiber which is stiff, but it transitions to a bakeable material that is much more flexible than regular skates. I still leave the top eyelet undone so my ankles have maximum flexibility. As far as I know, they still have an option for a stiffer upper material as well. You definitely must bake the skates otherwise you won't be able to put them on for the first time. Mine are the heavy old ones and while I'd love to try the new True skates, I don't really feel the need to because VH from 3 years ago are so freaking good. I think you'll love them.

    • @MrRyanxdavey
      @MrRyanxdavey Před 4 lety

      Stiffness is what you pay for when you get higher tier skates... you bake them when you get them, it's an extra long baking process vs regular skates. You won't have trouble fitting your foot in after baking. But the stiffer the boot, the better for you as a skater.

      Jeffrey Tollar Yeah, loves me my old Easton 1500’s so I bought Mako’s from online store when they came out, thinking “Easton wouldn’t change the footbed...” WRONG!
      High arch (I have FLAT, pronating feet and high arches KILL me)
      So would love to get custom fitted (NOT merely baked) boots with flatter footbeds. I add the perfect degree of arch (for ME) with Super Feet insoles, so I can adjust depth and feel to my liking. No can do with high arched footbeds. 🙃🤨

  • @tommcmullin1307
    @tommcmullin1307 Před 3 lety +1

    Desperately looking for a proper fitting skate. I have seen promotional videos for Bauer\CCM\True, and have made the following online comment:
    - Not sure if I can get excited about having my feet scanned for: width, length (left/right not the same), heel width, heel depth, instep/arch height, volume (ankle & instep)....AND THEN handed a pair off the wall. Is that really custom?
    - Hockey skate fit has been pretty well, unattainable, my entire hockey life. MY PROBLEM: flat feet, wide at the ball, narrow at the heel, extremely low instep, narrow ankles.......my foot just can't fill a skate. To compensate, I tighten the skate to where the lateral lace length across the tongue is short/narrow; the outcome is restricted forward ankle movement. The best I could ever do was to buy D width (having my toes jammed into a narrow ball/toe area). Then I raise my foot up using foam insoles + the "SUREFOOT arch support insole". I have even gone to the extreme of gluing an extra layer of phelt on the inside of the tongue. An ounce of physics knowledge will tell you that my fit issues can't be rectified by "skate baking"; my wallet has been sucked into that one.
    - Basically, I need a skate with less sidewall or UPPER height; narrow heel and wide ball would be nice as well. I would pay anything to get that.
    YOURS, 1BOXTOM

      Hey Spencer...how tight are you tying the laces? I've had my 2 piece goalie skates for about 2 months now and they're the most comfortable skates I've ever owned. However, a couple of times, I've found it's very easy to tie them too tight when I wasn't paying attention. They are so form fitting, I have to make a conscious effort to tie them snug but not tight. When I do that, I have no pain whatsoever.

    I’m not sure if you are aware of this type of stick. The Jet Speed Team. It is a “pro stock” type stick that uses standard blade curves and flexes. The stick is used mainly by u18 players. I would really appreciate a review of one if that is possible

    How do they compare to Bauer and CCM custom!? Bauer and CCM you’re losing out on potential customers if you don’t send Barber a pair

    Trues vs a bauer or ccm full custom? Why you pick true ?

    • @PavelBarber
      @PavelBarber  Před 4 lety +1

      Because True was the first to offer a fully cusomized boot that fit my foot and felt great. No pain, great performance. I have yet to test Bauer or CCM's customization so I can't say which is better. But I can say for certain the fit from True (and VH) has been perfect for me on every single pair.

    I don't apologize for my skates not looking like the traditional skates that haven't changed since the sixties. I have plantar fasciitis in both feet and arthritis in one and gout. With these skates, i feel none of it. Hard to get on. But once you do. Oh man

  • @Optimization_Coach
    @Optimization_Coach Před 4 lety

    Won't be long and the competition will have a superior moldability boot imo. True simply were too heavy, too tall and too shallow for my high arch foot. These are nicer looking than the older models but they still have a ways to go imo. Still in custom bauer's and ft2 one piece.

    Ive always been a graf guy, but i finally upgraded to the Bauer hyperlites and not too impressed. I dont think its the skates tho. Its me. I think i would be more of a true guy coming from grafs. I also like the simple design with true. I realized i rather have all black skates over the hyperlites look lol

    I’ve never had skates that are even close to being comfortable, I’ve wanted true skates for years but they’re just far too expensive to be viable

      Craig Balfour, how much have you been spending on skates?
      I’ve had my two piece true goal skates for just over two years now and they are the best fitting, best performing skates I’ve ever had!
      They are worth it! Especially if you’ve always been struggling with uncomfortable skates.
