I've never seen the movie. Watching this will be the closest to watching it and I plan to keep it that way.

The only reason I watched this entire movie after it came out was so that I could tell others that it is bad. I didn't wanna say "Well I watched the trailer." if someone asked me how I knew it was bad. I'm not that kind of person :)

Remember when they tried to accuse anyone who didn't like this movie of being misogynists? The sole reason I watched it was to see if that claim had any shred of credibility.
No... no it did not.
A sign of something being decent is that someone somewhere will get their panties in a bunch about it because it’s not all about them.
I bet the majority of their viewers were fans trying to see if it was really as bad as they though it was going to be, and came out disappointed as hell when it was worst.
it had nothing to do with the actors being females, it had everything to do with the script and PR team.

Right? In this Ghostbusters movie, they cast the male role as being a complete idiot. Even in the original Ghostbusters, the female cast was intelligent and still funny.
God, I hoped so much that it would be a good movie. But it was so bad. It pains me so much to see how much they dropped the ball.
The biggest sin is, that the original cast has not only not prevented this shame of a movie from ever being made, but instead agreed to do cameo's in it.

the OG's tried to make it a good movie. the director wouldnt listen to them.
The game is the canon 3rd movie and After Life is the canon 4th in the main timeline/dimension.
I actually don't hate this movie as it's in an alternate dimension stated clearly at the end and had closure with the video game so I wasnt "they should have made Ghostbusters 3" jaded like everyone else.
That said, most of the movie is Summer Blockbuster garbage anyway but I enjoy the visuals and the last half of the movie.

Meh. Mostly they were missing a Harold Ramis type to write it and a Bill Murray guy who makes everything he does funny. But really they have reboot-itis. No version of this was going to be good. It was like remaking The Thing.

I think you nailed it with this summary. The humour felt like whatever improv got a laugh on the set on the day, with no regard to things like 'being ridiculously exhausted so everything is funny' or 'you had to be there', instead of relying on a tight, slick screenplay.

It is a cliche but it’s not out of the ordinary. I’ve kept zero personal things in my office workspaces for over 25 years just so I won’t have to pack that crap up and carry it out when I get laid off.
As a bonus note: The original teaser trailer said "40 years ago, 4 scientists saved NYC". Winston wasn't a scientist, he was a guy who would believe anything if there was a paycheck involved.

The first problem with the comedy in this movie is that it was mostly improvised, apparently the actors were encouraged - even expected, to fill out the scenes with "funny moments" without any direction from the script or the actual director.
The second problem with the comedy in this movie is that the original Ghost Busters wasn't a damn Comedy - it just had funny moments interspersed between actual plot and action.

The original Ghostbusters is absolutely a comedy. It's just a comedy with a supernatural storyline.
Improv comedy isn't easy to pull off. It takes a professional to make it work. Especially on film, or Tv.
Those actors less familiar with improv will still need a script to work with; and some decent jokes, too.
Also, just because it's improvised doesn't mean comedy can write itself.
Slimer is a generally friendlier ghost who just likes eating food, his first actual appearance comes from Ghostbusters 1 I believe so it could be a reference to that or something.

Sadly, too many American "comedy" movies and TV series use slapstick and fart jokes and screaming, mistakenly thinking they are funny instead of cringe-inducing.

Bill Murray was always the biggest obstacle in ever getting GB3 properly off the ground. So his appearance in GB'16, as probably the most prominent cameo, was like giving fans the definitive middle finger. I know he's gonna be in Afterlife, but truthfully, I'd have much sooner seen the late, great Harold Ramis return.
Sony threatened to sue him for millions if he didn't.

Ghostbusters 2016: That movie was so bad, I'd walk out of it, even on an airplane.
That was probably funnier than the entire movie. And it if it were told in person, it'd've been said with a straight face...
I usually enjoy movies more if I don't get hyped up about it. This was one was a total disaster. The funniest thing was her asking Thor if his glasses had no lenses and that line was improved and made the cut. The original cast had lots of ideas that were dismissed because this was suppose to be some about strong women and not strong writing. This is absolutly one of the worst reboots ever.

The problem with this movie is that it’s entire premise was built on “look were going to change the ghostbusters to girls, how amazing” and then completely forgot the other elements that made the original good…….I’ve not seen afterlife yet, but from the trailers, looks like it’s got things right…..and has a young girl who is a ghostbuster…..but whilst still paying respect to the original!
2 things doomed this movie, not deciding whether it was going to be a sequel or a reboot in the trailers and writing a “all men are dumbass pigs” girl power script. The four leads were actually really good, McKinnon was awesome but janine and dana in the original GB was strong female supporting characters, having a dumb blonde male secretary was a piss poor choice.
@@Dazzsum I agree, the biggest problem with this movie was that they tried to turn it into a girl power message…..I’m all for strong female characters……but I would of rather they came up with their own movie……but if they really had to take a classic and change it to women to be woke…..then they really should of made sure that the material was going to be brilliant also…….but they didn’t, it was far too silly and the jokes fell flat……so people didn’t hate it just because it was girls, they hated it because “Hollywood” seems to think that changing the gender of the characters is enough to impress people…..but the audience is savvy to this now and it’s just lazy and disingenuous! …….If they focused more on what made the original great, like afterlife seems to of done, the movie would of had a better run of things!

Rick Moranis was smart not be part of the movie.
And it's the only good part of Harold Ramis' death.
Seeing as how the original cast was forced to make cameos in this im glad Harold wasnt around to suffer the same fate.
Sony was mad at Moranis because he trashed the film saying " it is total garbage".
Also Ramis was reported to break the record for a corpse spinning in it's grave.

@Sierra Faith Dan Akroyd's original vision was super science fiction set into the future. One of the only times in movie history where a small budget improved the movie.

Honestly... I'd have given ANYTHING for that movie to been good. ANYTHING. Seriously, what makes a great comedy is keeping it to JUST the main cast. Why I loved ghostbusters, where Peck, the Mayor, the people, all were just going about their business and treated the whole series seriously, it was Dan, Bill, Harold and Ernie who made the scenes goofy. I.E. you cut them out and its a drama where everyone tries to take it seriously, its what makes "its true, this man has no dick" fly so much better

It's in the hacked Sony e-mails. Almost every horrible decision about Ghostbusters 2016 is laid out in those e-mails (Paul Feig wanted "ghost aliens"!). If the e-mails haven't been scrubbed from the internet, look them up. It's all there. And, yes, Pascal said that Murray's residuals would be cut off if he didn't cooperate.
Think about it. Murray has refused pleas and mountains of cash to do another Ghostbusters, once even shredding a script and mailing it back to Aykroyd...but he's going to participate in the 2016 dog turd of a movie?

I didn't have a problem with female ghost busters, i had a problem with the sub-par script and the stupid sjw rhetoric by the actors.
I am so surprised that I didn't think about this aspect years ago, but Abby was holding a camera, and photographing the ghost. She was apparently looking at the screen, so she must have seen something. Why didn't they post THAT footage to CZcams, instead of Erin's freakout footage? At the very least, if the ghost wasn't recorded, there should have been footage of the slime suddenly appearing.
The Sin that killed this movie for me is that, having set up a flash mob to do the Thriller dance, they chickened out and left that whole scene dangling.
Funny. From what I was told at the time. The movie was absolutely perfect. And I was the problem.

It bugs me that they waisted casting Chris Hemsworth. He’s a great actor & really funny, yet they made him idiot eye candy.
pretty much any male in this movie is either a moron or douchebag...well, maybe not Ernie's cameo. He has a valid point for being upset. While I think Chris did well with his role, it was a horrible waste of his talents. I am a firm believer that if you need to write strong women by making the men around them idiots or jerks, you don't know how to write strong women. There is no reason an all GB female team should need to resort to this. I mean, Phoebe in Ghostbusters Afterlife, who is a kid and female, she carried that movie. She was absolutely fantastic and not a bit of her role had to do with her being a girl or belittled by the boys around her.
I really wanted to like the 2016 movie but, outside of Kate McKinnon, I didn't care about anyone else. Holtzman was at least entertaining to me and I havent watched SNL in decades so it really was my first intro to her and Leslie Jones (who I also thought was better than wiig and mcarthy, not great, but better).

Technically that was the samedi thing with the 1rst Ghostbusters, but they had good actors, directors, screenwriters. The 1rst one had a killing team on their back. Also I found that funny that in the second movie, in an enterview, a woman the world is going to end in 2016... that thing came out in 2016.

The best part is that they've announced that the Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection omits this film with Paul Feig complaining that it must be an oversight as it won at the kids choice awards. This just proves 3 things:
1. Paul forgot that it lost an estimated $70mill after factoring other costs
2. An award show voted by kids (supposedly) where celebs get slimed on is hardly an endorsement of quality, especially when you consider that it beat Captain America: Civil War
3. Even Sony wants to forget that the film exists.
This movie treats their audience as if they’re stupid, and if they spent any money on it, they are.
iv watched it like 7 times already each time attempting to watch it via a different mindset, and yet EVERYTIME I wind up finding completely lacking of logic, humor, creativity and entertainment. it's just a non stop shit ride of cliches, overblown stereotypes, and constantly bickering and bullshit bye the characters as they basically fight ghosts as a second feature to the film.

This movie has been recently been fixed. In the trailer for Ghostbusters Afterlife, they state that there hasn't been a ghost sighting in 30 years. It's been retconned and isnt recognized for the dumpster fire it is, crisis avoided!
According to the comics this is in its own alternate universe like the Real Ghostbusters cartoon the NES Ghostbusters, the Extreme Ghostbusters and the Sanctum of slime Ghostbusters teams. They had team up issues between all the teams where the multiverse was in danger .

I saw this movie in theaters seen as I love the original, and enjoyed the sequel, I thought I'd give it a shot. It's one of my biggest regrets.
