    Excellent video. One hint. after reinstallation, If the rods don't move to open the tailgate, it may be that the tailgate is locked. Unlock it,, and it should be fine. That's what happened to me. Otherwise, the removal/reinstallation was smooth. The step-by-step video was clear and remarkably useful..

    Watched the video, ordered the part from 1A after it didn't arrive I called 1A and found out due to autofill on my computer that the address was slightly wrong so instead of the post office sending it back, the geniuses THREW IT AWAY! Instead of returning it to 1A (smh). 1A was kind enough to send me another at no cost to me. With the help of this video, had it done in about 20 minutes. Thank you 1A, great company and great video. I'll be ordering from you guys again!!

    I can't say enough about how great these 1A Auto videos are. Great photography, every step clearly explained with a link to the parts you need. This took me 10 minutes to do and my tailgate locking mechanism - which was getting finicky before it failed completely - is like new.

    I had never watched one of your videos until tonight. I watched because I had replaced my lock assembly a couple of years ago and everything went fine. A couple of days ago I locked the tailgate with the ignition key and now it won't unlock. I watched the video to see what kind of bit I needed to take the bed liner off and it was right there in print at the beginning of the video. A T30 Torx and I just got home from Lowe's and didn't get any torx bits but I will tomorrow. Your lady is as smooth as glass, maybe ice, and knows from whence she speaks. You are lucky to have her. Thank you again.

    The plastic tailgate handle broke on my 2006 Tundra. The Toyota Dealer wanted $150 for the part and $115 for labor. I bought the black (not color matched) replacement latch fpr under $40 and tried to replace it myself. Thr Torx fasteners stopped me cold because I didn't havr thr right bit. I watched this video, with the tool and misc. stuff needed and showed exactly how to do the job. I got the right size Torx bit and swapped it out in 15 minutes. Thanks 1AAUTO.

    So how do you do this if it's failed and the tailgate is stuck closed vs open? The latch assembly, does yours include the bolt for holding it in? I believe mine fell out because the current handle is very wiggly.

    Thank you for this video. This worked just right! My 2002 Tundra tailgate handled broke very suddenly. Lucky for me, it was in the upright/closed position. Found this video, ordered the 1A Auto part after gasping over the OEM part pricing, and dear hubby had it installed in about 15 minutes. No bed liner in ours. We did take one bolt and washer off of the seal plate first, and made a visit to the hardware store first to buy 8 nylon washers because all of ours were cracked from age. We did get simple basic black instead of trying to color match our pretty red truck. But at 22 years on the road, the black looks just fine!

      @doubleganger2 Před 5 lety +2

      I replaced mine yesterday. The tailgate was down but I don't think there would be any reason you couldn't do it with it up. Be very careful not to drop the screws that hold the latch into the tailgate. It would be easy to do that with the tailgate up. If you happen to have magnetic socket inserts this would be a good time to use one. Obviously, once the handle is replaced you'd probably want to put the tailgate down to finish replacing the screws that secure the cover.

      Yes. Just remove the liner from inside the truck bed (if you have one) first, Unhook the 2 long steel rods from the plastic hooks . Take out the 2 bolts and remove old handle. Use the steel rods to open gently.

    At the moment I have one bolt of the pair that I need to replace. One bolt holding it in until I locate one. This would be an even better product if they would include the 2 bolts threaded into the replacement handle. It makes sense that the original bolts are at the end of life if the replacement handle is necessary. All in all, great part, great video.
