-- Dragonetti was also a double bass pedagogue whose technique is often mentioned in contrast to that of Simandl.
-- American audio engineer Shelly Yakus put it best: no other medium fills up the room quite like vinyl.

The greatest rendition of Rite Of Spring right there !!! Michael Tilson-Thomas and the Boston Symphony Orchestra 1972 recording - the gold standard in my book !

Great video - thank you, sir!
I hope that you'll also share info on the best imprints, series, etc. from an overall quality standpoint. It's really hard to know what to actually purchase (or pass on) when you're still learning... like me.

I will be providing some more feedback on listening quality, different labels and issues etc where possible.

That Monteux Tchaikovsky 4th is quite good...if it's the 1958/59 RCA recording. I agree the Mravinsky is a bit superior; an astonishing performance, that. Monteux isn't far behind, though.

Sounds a Really interesting project I’m sure with your dealers knowledge and a little luck it will be no time before you get a killer collection with minimal outlay. I was heavily into charity shop classical picking before the pandemic but yet to get back to regular visits. I wasn’t that impressed when I had a go with some gold seal RCA’s but have occasionally been really impressed by some stunning sonics of the UK pressed Red Seals especially the Julian Breams. For me the sonic Crown Jewels of the charity shops are the Decca SPA’s just so long as the plastic inner linings haven’t welded themselves to the vinyl!

Yes agreed SPAs are excellent Jubilees too. Its odd how they lined the inner sleeves with a compound that can stick to the LP surface.

my aim is to build a collection of LPs in ex/nm condition with the repertoire and performers I prefer. I am not bothered about collectors labels. There are already desperate people scouring the shops for SXLs etc. I think these run of the mill LPs even CFP will be worth something in time as more people collect vinyl and look for analogue pressings in top condition. Hence the need to buy now while they can be had for £1 or so.

@@LPCLASSICAL Due to the wonderful SPA sonics versus the risk of inner sleeve adhesion hands on inspection in a charity shop is the best location for quickly telling whether it’s a bargain or a pass

I will probably do a video on how I check for condition. I obviously check every single record.

@@LPCLASSICAL currently the prices of most non collector label classical vinyl in shops is so low it’s a great way to learn the ropes of record collecting without the risk of getting seriously burnt, I also find many SXDL Decca’s are seriously underrated and can be in superb clean condition
