This is my code 3 MX7000. I got it used and it was in pretty good shape when I got it. I haven't made any modifications, I only used some plastic polish to clear up the lenses.
Yeah the LED versions may make no noise, but LEDs just don't have that sweeping moving spotlight effect that the light rotators have, they just don't convey the cold harsh authority of the law, LEDs just look like blinking red and blue lights. Even light bars that use strobes looked better. The strobes blinked much faster, LEDs could be easily made to do the same, but they are programmed to be on for a full second or so, rather then the fraction of a second that strobes flash at
I know one option was to just have the inside or the outside rotators flash but I never knew any agency to do that. None the less this was the king of rotator bars
Yeah I got this in 2009, back when you still saw plenty of these on the road, now they are almost totally extinct, code 3 doesn't even make them anymore, it looks like an antique now
Takedown lights are those 2 solid white lights on the lower level, like an extra pair of headlights. They basically just give the cops some bonus super bright lights to shine on the car or people in front of them, perhaps in a situation where they have to take them down
@@lander77477 wow I’m surprised that you replied 13 years later 😂 wassup! But anyway yeah I totally wish they still made those lightbars. Only NYPD and LVMPD really use rotator bars (that I know of). Only real problem is that they’re a little harder to see than traditional LED lightbars during the daytime, and you don’t get the full “sweeping spotlight” effect unless there are buildings etc nearby for the light to bounce off of. I actually just saw an old Silverado from my local parks department with an amber MX7000 on top and halogen lights on the rear window, and it made me so happy
@@prestonm.64 back in like 2009 I actually snuck into a tour of the code 3 factory. It was technically for cops that were all in town visiting for a police trade show. No one said anything, i just wandered in for the tour with everyone else!
I agree, I've checked and it looks like code 3 no longer makes it. I haven't seen one of these on top of a police car in years, i hate to say it but it looks old fashioned now, when I got it in 2009 you still saw them all over the place, maybe a 50/50 mix between that and the low profile LED light bars. Today its all thin LED light bars and they dont look as cool to me
They are called intersection lights, or intersection sweeps, used for warning other cars when a police car has to drive through a red light. On some models they don't sweep back and forth as far, they just sort of wiggle a little left and right, those are called pursuit lights, and I think they are just to intimidate someone being chased a little more, or possibly to warn other motorists.
I use a six switch box mounted to my power supply and the Arrowstik controller mounted on top of that. I have replaced all of the 55w halogen bulbs in the lower part of the bar, all the intersections, take downs, flashers, and alley lights are now lower wattage bulbs to help with current draw and with. My box activates from left to right: Rotate lights, Inter-sector, Front flash, Take down Left alley, Right alley.
I have an all clear dome mx7000 and its fun just to put different color led bulbs in them the best looking is blue on the 4 outside rotators and purple for the center rotator and intersection lights
I have the same bar, hooked up almost the same way I just did it a little different. I have all 5 rotators fire at the same time with #1 switch, I use all clear domes so I have options with the colors. I used half filters: From left to right if looking from the front. (B R W B R) on the upper, reverse color from the front (R B A R B) on the back. On the lower front: (W R TD=TD B W) On the lower back, full A Arrowstik. Independent AL on both sides, powered by Astron RS-70A
@startrekfan76 its simple. all you would need is a 12V power supply. with something like this, you would need at least a 30 amp supply. the power supply plugs into the wall and converts 120VAC (household current) to 12VDC (car current) these power supplys arent cheap, but theyre the only way to power it inside your house. any more questions, PM me.
I have a older Federal Signal AeroDynamic light bar - I was going to use a 40 amp Pyrimid power supply...Ya think that would alright wired through a switch box as you did?
@Izzyisrodriguez you should test it before you spend money on a control box. put the red wire and black wire on a car battery, then the rotators will power on. keep the black wire on the - part of the car battery, and touch the other wires on the + side, to test that function. control boxes are 100$+ so test your functions before you shell out money.
@DEOXYS987 Well actually im pretty sure there all decently functional the problem i have is that i have the light bar and the cord at the end just has liks 6 weires going every witch way.. can i just go buy togle switches and try it??
I have an MX7000 also and never understood why the outside rotors were wired up separately than the inside rotors. Also I'm curious to know how you have this powered? The wall socket transformer I use to run most of my lights cannot handle the amount of amps that the MX7000 draws.
I use a Pyramid PS-36KX power supply and it works great. I like how the outside rotors are wired separately, I guess its when you want to convey some authority but not look angry
I would have one with two rotators and some selectable flash pattern strobes on top for a pursuit style race car if someone wanted to do that with me someday.
How can I wire this without a control box? Or where can I buy a control box? Got a used set of police mx7000 with PA I'd like wire it up correctly in my shop. Thanks
Google "light bar switch box" and you will find a lot of different designs, some you might like more than the one I have. Not sure how to wire it without a switch box, or why you would want to, its much more fun to play with when you have the cool switch box, but get yourself a power supply to use with the switch box, the one I use cost about 100 bucks (though that was in 2009, it might be more expensive now) but I use a Pyramid PS-36KX. I just checked and it looks like a company called Dana Safety Supply has a good selection of switch boxes
Buy a power supply, I use a PS-36KX which can handle all the lights being on at once, smaller and cheaper power supplies could do the job too but might overload if you try to turn on everything at once. I am using a basic 6-function switch box (google light bar switch box and look at the images) there are many varieties made by different companies that you may like better, let me know if that helps!
Ah yes the bundle of wires, my light bar has the same bundle, but when i got the power supply i did a little trial and error to figure out which color wire did what and just wrote a chart
They were pretty clear yes but maybe a little hazy with millions of micro scratches, so i I polished them with Novus 2 fine scratch remover and it helped make them look clearer
Used on traffic stops eapecially at night to create a “wall of light” to blind/distrct a motorist during the stop so when they look back they cant see… so they cant tell you location… its an officer safety thing…. When i was trained we were told to never cross the wall of light cause it gives your location away instead we had to walk around the back of the patrol car if we wanted to go to say then passengers side of the car. Hope that makes sense
HEY, LET'S DO OURSELVES A FAVOR AND PUT THIS KIND OF EMERGENCY LIGHTBAR LIGHTS BACK ON TOP OF SOME EMERGENCY VEHICLES, SUCH AS POLICE CARS AND SOME SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES (S.U.V.'S). MAYBE WE COULD PROBABLY OWN AND RUN OUR SELF - EMPLOYED PUBLIC SAFETY ORGANIZATION ONE DAY VERY,VERY SOON IF WE GET A VERY GOOD OUTSIDE CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING THAT WE ALL LIKE TO DO FOR A CHANGE FOR OURSELVES.

I miss these!

The MX7000 and the Federal Signal Vector/Vision gotta be the best rotator bars ever made
Yeah, it stinks that code 3 doesn't make these anymore, and I don't see any emergency vehicles with anything like these anymore

I used to have this same lightbar on my patrol car, it was so loud through the roof. Love the slim LED's we have now.
In my opinion this was the best light bar ever

Thank you. What switch box do you use? I've got the mx7000, a Jetsonic, and a Twinsonic CTS that I need to hook up as well.
Cool.

@Izzyisrodriguez the first place to start is to see which functions on the bar works, and which doesnt so you know which replacement parts you need.

How did you wire your lightbar and what converter did you use? I'm restoring one myself.

It’s about 200 more bucks i should have this bad boy running. Where your lenses that clear when you bought unit or did you have to clean ?

can someone explain what takedown lights are and their purpose. thank you

any interest in selling?
I wanna put one of these on my POV in all blue. If I kill my Edge 900 first!
The lighting is not bright enough as well as high noise
