    Excellent video,Spencer.Ive just hung an 11 metre feature wall where the wallpaper was a nightmare...10 minute book,dark blue & gold flecked paper with the blue dye coming off on my hands,brush & smoother,the seams shrunkin places.So i took your cunning trick of getting a perfect match tester pot& painstakingly filled the offending seams.It worked a treat,thanks so much for your words of wisdom,i definitely owe you a few ipas...🍺🍺🍺

    Nive video spencer. Happens to me also on rare ocasions.
    Last week i put up a custom printed smartpaper (glasfiber) and although a smartpaper should not be shrinking or expanding, this one did. (and had to be extra carefull with the printed ink on the surface)
    I had to keep a space between the seems of 1 mm or else it would curl up to each other.

    Thank you. This video has convinced me never to use any form of wallpaper again. I will only have flat/matt painted walls and if the walls are in such a bad state that they requires a skim coat of plaster then so be it. I hate wallpaper and all the problems that come with it.

      Trouble is the plaster can keep developing cracks in the same areas. We have to use wallpaper in our house to cover them! Home maintenance - basically a complete pain in the backside.

      Barry, please, give Wallpaper another chance because I can tell you that this is a rare occurrence

  • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator

    do you not line walls in the US? That would stop the pull back shrinkage.

    Hi, Does the tip to remove paste work on wallpaper murals or just vinyl ?

    Can you use this method with a wp that’s not solid vinyl & might tear?

    That's my story also exhausted from failed promises they say they are the best but can't do a job better than myself...
    So I decorate my house myself now.

    Did you saturate the repair seam the same amount you originally booked it? Thank you as always for the best instruction!

      @spencercolgan  Před 2 lety +1

      Just 5 mins. Which is 5 mins less than originally!

    Great video! What is making the wallpaper move to close th gap? Is it simply a slight stretch of the paper?

    I’ve these these problems before, what caused this in a paper I’ve repaired the installer did not prime the walls correctly and they also did not book it for enough time

      What does “book it” for enough time mean?

    Rule number one always blame your tools or materials

    What do you do if it is Grasscloth or something like a Phillip Jeffries Island Raffia - is there anything you can do?

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  Před 2 lety +3

      Excellent question! You cannot do this to Grasscloth because the backing will stay on the wall as you try to lift up Grasscloth and then you will scar the edges because of all of the friction; the only thing you can do with Grasscloth is colour pencils

    • @heather4217
      @heather4217 Před 2 lety

      Thanks, Spencer. Do you have to prime walls for these types of wall coverings and if so, what would you suggest?

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  Před 2 lety +1

      @@heather4217 I prime/size most of the time. Use Shields clear
