  • To create beautiful clay projects very important to select a suitable clay texture and complementary materials to color it. In this video I show few examples of coloring textures created in previous video • 50 AMAZING TEXTURES fo... using different materials. I used four different air dry clays listed below and selection of acrylic, watercolor, and metalic paints, sprays, etc. I always spray my air dry clay projects with sealer prior to coloring.
    Materials used in this video:

You can stain the clay by boiling onion skins in water and when its cool you can brush it on like paint. You can also stain the clay with a damp used teabag. It gives a rich brown stain similar to coffee.
You can also stain clay using beetroot juice. Also blackcurrant juice is very good for making a rich purple colour. I hope that helps you.

Fantastic suggestions, Carly! I used onion skins to color eggs for Easter but didn't try on clay. Now I will! Beetroot juice should be an excellent magenta tint. Unfortunately, blackcurrant doesn't grow where I live.
Thank you for sharing your ideas! Please share if you have more!

@@CeramicsOasis have you got a shop that sells frozen fruit because blackberries and other berries that are frozen can be used if you don't add water to the mixture, then use it like paint on clay. We did it in school when I was a child. Lots of fruit has strong colours in them. I saw a dark pink dragon fruit on the internet recently and I am seriously thinking of trying that...all i have to do it get the pink dragone fruit lol. Oh, and another thought came to mind...turmeric is fantastic for giving a strong yellow colour to clay. I gave it a go using very little water and it looked great but my advice is to apply it with a sponge or it streakes. The last one I thought of for a redish stain is blood oranges. When you condense the juice in a pot over a low heat, it becomes sticky and it concentrates the colour quite a bit. Red cabbage gives a decent purple colour but again condensing the liquid you cook it in is imperative. Anyway, happy crafting. God bless you! Have fun!
