- We have needed a proper flag pole in front of this house and it has been far too long around our place without one. This is a two hour project is simple, and results in an inexpensive yet very strong flag pole that cost less than $130. This is a quick project with galvanized pipe parts that are readily available at your home center and will change the look of your home forever.
This is the third flag pole using this build method that I have made, all are still straight and strong! One even took 80MPH of wind AND a tornado and it didn't even care! Proven flag pole install method that will last forever.
You will need:
2x 2" Galvanized pipe, 10' Lengths (Will cut this in half to bury in concrete.)
1x 1 1/2" Galvanized pipe 10' length
2-3 Bags of concrete
1x Cleat
1x 3" Eye bolt with nuts
1x 50' 1/4" Rope
2x D-Rings or clips
1x 1/4" Pully
2x 3/4" Self Tap screws

This is the third flag pole I have made this way, the first two have taken a beating and still look great! Thanks for watching!!😁🚩🚩
I'm just curious. Are there any federal or state customs, rules, regulations or even laws in the US how you make a flag pole and how you attach the flag to the rope? Here (all Scandinavia), there are no strict laws but rather customs that the pole _should be_ white (unless it's a small one made of wood) and the flag _should always_ be attached to the rope with flag sticks top and bottom. Personally I would never have used what you call D-rings: metal + metal + wind = clunk clunk.
@@SteifWood The US has a fairly detailed flag code. 4 U.S.C. ch. 5 § 5 is the law. However:
1. It is for the most part, advisory. Federal offices are likely bound to follow it, but ordinary citizens and business cannot be punished or arrested for disregarding. That said, generally if you care enough to fly one, you generally care enough to follow the rules.
2. While there are portions dealing with display, such as the requirement that the flag not be flown at night, unless illuminated, I don't believe it there are any rules about pole color or attachment methods. Indeed, I believe even US government flow flags vary in attachment. Some are sleeved for indoor poles and many are attached with hooks through grommets.
Do you have a photo or link to the flag sticks? Are these just pegs that hold the rope to the flag?
Yes, flag hardware does often clank in high winds, but to me, its just part of the music of life.
Where did you buy your 2inch to 1.5 inch reducer, and 2 inch union?

If I were to do a 20' total pole with 3' in the ground could I do 1 ½" pole the entire length?
A little Iwo Jima moment as you and The Wife raise the pole into position.
That was the second pole she raised on that day.
You could spray the exposed pipe threads with cold galvanizing spray paint. It would keep them from rusting as the galvanization is lost when the threads are cut.
Well done young man! It's heart warming to see how much the flag means to you and you family.
Yes!
Thank you for having the balls to be Patriotic and loving your country for that sir I Appreciate the video God bless
Thanks for putting out this video! It is the best homemade do-it-yourself flagpole video on CZcams, in my opinion.
Going to Home Depot to purchase everything that I need and get started. Thanks again
Such a great thing to do with the kids, gives them more than one reason to be proud every time they look at the flag flying
I love it! Going to do this. Only thing I want to possibly add is a light on top for flying all night.
Its one of the best diy videos ive watched where you actually show step by step clearly. Hats off to you bro for being a hardworker and clearly your kids love you alot. All the best.
Thanks Tyler, this is now my spring project. Nice work.
Nice work Tyler! Excellent quality, excellent project. Thank you for sharing. Peace & prosperity to you and your family!
Looks great, never realized how easy it was to build one... 🇺🇸
Thank you so much for this guide. I just bought my first house with my wife and now new born daughter and this is a MUST have for any house I own.
Thanks for the project! Wonderful family.
This is one of my favorite videos on your channel. I like how you have your family involve.
Nice job!
LPT.
Get a flagpole truck with finial, that allows the flag to rotate at top of pole and tie your halyard together between your snap hooks keeping a neater look and easier hitching at the cleat, especially when flying flag at half staff.
Great job and video! Five stars. Going to add a solar light to top, plus two additional flags, but using exactly your design.
Outstanding and what memories your kids just made.
Good Dad 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love this. Your detail is absolutely essential. It will weather well! What a GORGEOUS pole! The non-endowment cemetery I am restoring needs a line of flag poles for Memorial Day and Veterans Day and this would be my preference on how to make it. Now to do the asking oermission part. : )
Just this past Monday I put up a flagpole. Already had a galvanized 1.5 " pipe. Ordered a repair kit from Amazon and a solar light to illuminate the flag...the light fits under the top ball on the pole and it doesn't matter which way the flag is flying its always illuminated at night🇺🇲👌👍
I just took down a pole built exactly like this one. This pole will be there a long time. Nice work.
Outstanding job by you and the whole family. I salute you !!
Great video. Really like the way you involve your kids! Nicely done.
Hey bro,I just finish mine following step by step your instructions. Thank you!!
Absolutely love it. Great job
Awesome video! I wanted a flag pole, but retail flag poles that looked decent were well over $1000.00 and much more than that in many cases. Thanks for taking the time to makes this! BTW, as an added cool feature, we get to see your cat's impressive athleticism at about 2:05 :) Take care and Semper Fi sir.
Absolutely beautiful!
Great looking flagpole Tyler. Loved the family joining in. You brother I am sure is real proud of you from Heaven. Peace till next time.
Very nice to see a man involving his kids I a project.
Thank you so much for showing us how You did it I really enjoy your video blessings for you and your family🙏🏼
You’re a good father. We need more like you.
Thank you! Usually we get nasty comments about the kids being around any type of work....appreciate you.
That is a thing of beauty right there! Thank you!
Excellent video tutorial. Very good job, and detailed part's list. Thanks!
Great work. Thanks for the teaching as well.
Nice job!
Great video.
Your use of the RATCHET STRAPS was genius!!
This was awesome! Greatly appreciate it
Wish I saw this before I bought one in the beginning of the year. My aluminum one moves a lot with the wind. This looks much more sturdy, and cheaper!
Fantastic job!
Cool deal dude looks great 👍 fine job!
Good stuff!
At 3:29…you know you’re doing this Dad thing right! All the kids, engaged and enjoying the project. Few more years, you’ll be able to drag out a lawn chair and watch them work the entire time!
Looks awesome!
I would have used a scrap 7’ joint in the beginning leveling process so that you could use a 6’ level.
Thanks for the tips 👍
Great tips
God bless you and your family Tyler and God bless America 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Awesome! Tall, heavy duty flagpoles are so expensive. Thanks for showing me how to build my own without breaking the bank. I subbed because your helpers are too stinking adorable! You cracked me up when you told your son to work faster if he wanted to eat later. 😂😂😂
At 2:02, I’m looking at the cat playing with a butterfly 😆 🦋 🐈
Well done!
What a great plan! Thanks now I'm going to copy you :)
That's the point....go for it!
Supra great video...! it is simply puuurrrfect..!!! What I really need. Explains everything! Thank you very much!!
A great son there, he was going down that hole :) once again great seeing the whole family involved and a beautiful property you have. God Bless America!!!! and God Bless your family!
Outstanding job, Tyler!! I am looking to raise a Ham amateur antenna and your idea is SUPERB!!
This was a great video. I got really excited because I need to replace my flag pole. My how times have changed. I just priced everything needed at Home Depot and the total is now $285!
Nice job! I have boulders everywhere up to 8' in size around our house, so I will be drilling into the boulders as a base. Cheers from Canada.
Love it!
Nice flag pole , i bought one of the 2 inch aluminum flag pole , but it only took one wind storm in Michigan and down she came . Glad to find your video so i can build one that will last, also was glad to see your helpers helping you, lol great video.
Oh no! This one has took 45mph the other day!
Just the video I was looking for to build a good solid flagpole that will withstand the strong beach coastal winds of North Myrtle Beach, SC. I had been thinking 2"inch galvanized. Thanks for a great video, extremely well planned, organized, and explained. Thanks from an old Army paratrooper, Vietnam Vet. I'm headed to Lowes to get my material. USA. The only addition will be a POW*MIA flag in remembrance of our over 1500 MIAs from the Vietnam War. Thanks for an excellent video, and most importantly, being an American Patriot and probably a vet.
Great job
Nice! I just put up a flag on our property as well. New subscriber!
Looks good! I always have that problem with rope in a bag 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Tyler, thanks for a great video. You look like you have such a great family, such a great bunch of kids....and it was so funny when you said the part about "working smarter, not harder" -- it was hilarious. Thanks for loving America, God bless you.
Subscribed.
Awesome flag!
Wow, wow, what an outstanding job you did . Love the kitty and puppy playing, and what a wonderful kids and your son helping dad always love that. God bless you and your family, and thank you for sharing your ideas that I have to copy you because that is the best flagpole ever.
You are so kind
Awesome! 👍🏼
Nice Family,Ten thousand thumbs up !!!!!!!!!!
Awesome video appreciate that coming from an electrician make sure you mention that no power lines should be above you when you're standing at full or anywhere near
The clanging sound os one of the best parts of a metal flagpole and of a boast mast.
I'm with you there! One of the best summer sounds!
Love the flag looks badass good job ty.👍👌 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice this just motivated me, my kids over sees now and I need more then just a porch flag...🤝🇺🇸
I nominate you for "Dad of the Year"- "hold your breathe. Earn your dinner" Brings back memories :) Great job on the flag pole project!
Very nice. Great job! 🚩
Your kids are gonna be experienced builders even before they start school 👷🔨
Great job Tyler....You're a true American...God Bless The USA !
With raising the flag we remember the struggle of many to remain free. Excellent. God bless America.
Nice flag poll🇺🇸
Thanks that was brilliant
I used to live on my sailboat, talk about clanging! There were about Fifty sailors boats in that marina and most of the owners didn’t know how to set up the masts and halyards for less noise. I got used to it. Fun times back then.
Your cat is providing extra entertainment in the background.
Looks great. We live in Oklahoma and have been having 40mph winds damn near every day and also get lots of storms and tornadoes so I want to build something quite strong.
very cool job..
Thank you! Cheers!
3 day jog for me. 1 trying to get down into rock/clay excuse for soil. My aluminum telescoping pole been up 15+ years but is developing issues, may have to go this route soon.
Looks real good sir. Are you going to be adding some lights for the nighttime?
Tyler, good job on the flagpole. It is interesting that Americans that fly the flag are patriots but when English houses do it is branded as jingoism. Ethan is growing so fast it won't be long before you can't use him to clean the chimneys!
Awesome! I hope you installed nighttime illumination
My father in law built one exactly the same way, but he put all one piece in and that was 30 years ago and replaced the pulley once with a rubber wheeled one.
Thank You
Nice job, Tyler! Having a tall pole, you could actually put a bit larger flag on it if you wanted to......
Good boy💪💪💪
Only step I would have added is melting the end of the nylon rope. Fantastic job!
Love it.
"hold your breath" lol, I do the same thing when dealing with 1 or so bags where I won't be in it a long time.
Awesome Job thanks For the video brother
God's Family Country USA 🇺🇲🙏❣️
God's bless Tyler 🙏
AMEN God is good..
RIO GRANDE VALLEY TEXAS USA 🇺🇲
God bless you brother
One Recommendation-- put some anti-seize on the bottom threads --- if you have to service the top in five years -- it will be way easier to take down.. Great video , i will attempt !!
Praying for your freedom and mine from you're Canadian neighbour up north.
Wanted to thank you for the video. I watched it last week, and again today to double check materials list and depth.
We just completed our barndominium, and though it looks awesome, something was missing. Gonna be a Texas flag flying over it by next weekend !!!
Awesome help, thank you.
When the tape fell in the hole he looked back at you like really dad and I’m gonna be the one to blame 😂
