I do remember these songs from long ago. Now in my winter years they comfort me.

I'm old enough to remember news reels (Movietone News and Pathe) in the 1950's showing ships sailing from New Zealand to the UK with crowds on shore singing 'Now is the hour' (English and Maori) and holding paper streamers for a last connection with relatives or friends sailing away for what was likely a very long time. Even as a young kid this song always made me feel sad.
