Richard Kern was the director. He makes soft-core "art porn" these days but he was an art film director in the '80s-he was a part of the "Cinema of Transgression" movement.
Henry Rollins stared in a few of the films, along with Lydia Lunch. A few of the films are on youtube, but several of them have too much nudity and/or violence to be on here.
I like them for what they are, but you have to take into account the time and place they are from. If they were filmed today they would be boring, derivative crap, with horrible acting and worse production. In the 1980s they were edgy (the good kind), provocative, and cutting edge.

eileen! speaking of silent hill, this part at 2:19 reminded me of cheryl when she was calling out to harry through the tv and the other part at the end with the "blooper" reel. also 2:43 looks very SH-esque, not that all of this influenced SH in any way (although the band was referenced in the first game).

    • @apolloniuslusitanius2408
      @apolloniuslusitanius2408 Před rokem +3

Yes Lung Leg, is the first one to appear on this clip, right? everybody thinks it's Lydia Lunch! Richard Kern used to name all of his Pin Ups with "L" as Initials; "Leather and Lace", a cool concept of Aliteration and Opposites mixed, with a dirty-glamourous nick name; I think Warhol; influenced Kern a lot, like "Drella"... the only idea I really like in Warhol's work; is that nick-name: "Drella" a mix of Dracula with Cinderella, so Marilyn Manson was (I think...) inspired by that! And I believe in many ways Richard Kern was influenced a lot by Warhol, both in movies as well as in style but he re-invented the concept... it's more Self-Exploitation than Exploitation, I mean Lydia is not Edie Sedgiwick! Besides he had another touch of "Emotional Content"; to quote Bruce Lee! but I was looking for Lung Leg's name which I had forgoten, and you were the only one who knew! Thanks!!!

It's a good thing you wrote out the lyrics for everyone to see, because I couldn't make them out at all, perhaps because the music was too loud.
This song was supposed to be about the crimes of Charles Manson and his "family," but the lyrics are so vague, that they could be about anything or anybody.
The only reason I looked for the song was because it was listed in an old day-by-day calendar about true crime, along with some other songs about notorious crimes.

First & Foremost, thank you for posting it brings back many fond memories. However, your title is slightly misleading, as it is Lung Leg who actually has the female lead in this video. Please humor an old man and his story. A fan of Sonic Youth will enjoy it....
In 1982-84, I was one of about 40 hardcore punks in Baltimore city. I skated, surfed, & loved music that was different from the top 40 crap pushed on us. In the fall of '84, I was lucky enough to go to TSU, a nursing & teacher's college, but it also had the largest radio tower & could play whatever they wanted as there were no advertisers. This helped open up new worlds of music. They had a two hour weekly punk program, & a three hour Saturday reggae program. WHFS, 99.1 FM in DC had the "Milo Sunday Reggae Splashdown." A 3 hour program whose cassettes were highly prized. There was also "college radio," but no hardcore punk.
During the punk shows (usually at Jules' Loft) I saw most of the big bands: Black Flag, Saccharine Trust, Fang, TSOL, CoC, MDC, Circle Jerks, Minor Threat, DK, Butthole Surfers, just pick one. I missed a few like the Minutemen, Meatmen, Big Black, & UK Subs (the Canadian ones.) Social Distortion was cancelled due to Mike Ness' heroin addiction. I would have loved to see them all. My 7th & 8th grade, school friend, London May was the drummer in Baltimore's only punk band, Reptile House (a Baltimore Zoo exhibit). They put out a 7 inch and opened for the headline act. Because of this, I never missed a show and was there the night the BCPD & Fire Chief shut down the Loft for fire regulations. These shows were the only place those under 21 could see this exciting new music. MIA came from CA & had to play in "Frog's basement" for his birthday party. A great show and band, but you can't stage dive in a basement with a drop ceiling. Now New York was only a 3 hr drive north, and Wash DC an hour south, so they were options.
Now about Sonic Youth. In the summer of 84, I met the love of my life, Heather McKinney M., whose family moved to Flemington, NJ, as she went to Rutgers Univ. She & her artist friends turned me on to add'l new music, mostly Noise Art, Joy Division/New Order, Young Marble Giants, Thick Pigeon, Skeleton Crew, that type. We made many trips to the Village to buy shirts & music, and see shows at CBGB. But this was after the Ramones heyday. The Village & Soho were not gentrified & quite violent to a young couple walking through.
She told me Sonic Youth was playing in NJ & implored me to come see them with her. I only had a few of their songs on cassette, and a 5 song EP on the SST label. EVOL was not yet released. When I went to the show, I didn't care much for the opening act. John Zorn, Skeleton Crew, & noise art weren't for me. Sonic Youth was to play 2nd, then a headline band. During the 1st band's set, I went out back to smoke a joint or 2 (I used to deal drugs.) That was where I met Kim, Lee, & I think the drummer's name was Bob. Thurston wasn't there.
We talked at length about their music, the scene in Baltimore & DC. Also, NYC & the difficulties they faced. We talked about coming south and doing a three night swing: Philly, 1 hr south to Baltimore, then 1 hr south to DC and the 9:30 club. I am not a promoter but offered to help work with London and get Baltimore set up. I must admit Kim Gordon was and is a beautiful lady & I was quite enamored. That's when Heather walked out and saw my sitting next to Kim, chatting with her. I don't know if she was jealous of Kim's beauty & my obvious attraction, or that I somehow was sitting with the band she liked chatting and smoking pot with others. I will not say the band smoked with me. There were other people the joints were passed around to.
In any event, the show was very enjoyable. Quite raw, and I could tell the band was putting everything they had into the show. I appreciate Thurston's talent, but personally I just love to hear a woman sing while rocking out. We talked again after the show and exchanged numbers. They never did come through Baltimore & play with Reptiile House & I am glad their careers took off. I don't know if Heather ever held a grudge against me for that night but we were young lovers & I had a lot to learn about women. If she reads this, I apologize for all I did. If the band reads this, congratulations to you all, you deserve success.
And if Ms. Gordon reads this, I still think she is a very attractive woman, a diehard rocker, and a wonderful artist in her own right. If you got this far I thank you also for reading. And thank you to the person(s) that posted it.

Night Flight on USA network....after the Another State of Mind documentary taught me about punk rock , underground music.....Kim Gordon loading shells.....in the shotgun..... wearing a Venom tee....

  • @apolloniuslusitanius2408

the girl in the first part of the clip is not Lydia Lunch, everybody mistakes her for Lunch, it's Lana Lung! but you're right... I think Lunch was involved with their stuff too, but the model is not her! Both of them, among many other goth/punk pin ups; that worked in Richard Kern's movies, were in the same "scene" than Sonic Youth!
