Dang, around 200 lbs is my goal weight. Of course, I was 425! I lost it for my brain surgery, which went well. I did it by intermittent fasting. I would go for three days without eating and eat one meal low-carb, practically a carnivore. I would go to a Golden Corral. I went down to 240 in less than a year. I had the surgery, and then I went back up to 310 and lost 60 last year. I am going back to 2-3 days to go down to around 200. I could see myself being able to lose weight while living on a cruise like you are doing. If I eat one meal a day, I maintain my weight. Good luck.
wow that has been amazing journey….congratulations
@@30AndAWakeUp
Thanks for saying that, I’m watching your channel because I want to take a cruise in January.
I'm not a doctor, either. I lost 50 lbs by doing the exact opposite from you (except I did eat as much as I wanted and I fasted doing OMAD and 2MAD). The exact opposite part is that I ate only animal based foods and did not exercise at all. Proof that we're all different. There are docs online that can provide more information on this new approach if the phrase "insulin resistance" is searched. ❤
yeah, so many ways to do it. just have to find what works for you. That’s the key.
@@30AndAWakeUp 🗝
Congratulations 🎉 having food prepared for you makes eating right easier, just sticking to the plan is the key. Looking away from all those sweets and breakfast on a ship could be difficult for many 😅
Yeah, having access to healthy options everyday really helped.
Way to go Kevin!! Walking as much as you do everyday is definitely the way to go and not so hard on your knees and joints. I never understood people who "jog" LOL I too have been on a journey the last year and a half and lost 36 pounds by just eating whole foods, avoiding highly processed foods and carbs and intermittant fasting/clean keto. I feel fantastic and off all medications except for my thyroid Rx. I do between 10 and 15k steps a day on most days and even my doggie Sugar is enjoying a bit of weight loss. Keep on cruisin' and enjoy the ride. Thanks for sharing and again CONGRATS!!
that is amazing!! congrats 🥂
Great work. I love walking around the ship but don't have the discipline to get up that early. It must be a totally different world at that hour as opposed to later in the morning! You are inspiring.
Yeah, I love the ship early morning! I have it all to myself except for a couple of midnight cleaners!
OMG, Kevin, that's fantastic! You are do a great job with your food choices, and it's working! 🍽🍉🍊🥭🍇🥝🍲🍛🥗🥙Those are great steps! I also didn't know that the "Goonies" was in Astoria- so cool! "Kindergarten Cop" also comes to mind, as well. You are moving through the Pacific so quickly, but it's fun to watch! Catch you again soon, and have fun!!🤗🌅🛳🌄🏔
thanks maxine 🙏
Congrats Kevin!
My eating habits aren't too different from what you're describing, except that I'll almost always *also* grab some red meat, and I uh, never met a carb I didn't like either, Lol. Also, while I rarely eat breakfast ( in the morning anyways), on a cruise I take full advantage for 2-3 eggs or an omelet at every opportunity, and I indulge freely on deserts & pastries.
I do like to walk all over the ship at any hour and that helps, but in all seriousness, the only way I'd lose 30 lbs onboard would be throwing my luggage overboard. Agreed that all the veggies and fruits your heart desires is the way to go. As a bachelor on a budget, it's hard to buy enough of them without going broke, and anything you don't consume quickly at home just spoils too fast.
Cheers!...from North Vancouver
Cheers! 🥂
That's amazing 20 to 25 k steps great weight loss safe travels Kevin
thanks brother 🙏
Its been said... Health is wealth! Less stress, more movement, intermittent fasting, good aleep, and minimally processed foods (cooking is a process). Nicely done! 👏🏻😊
agree!! 👍
Appreciate this. I'm trying to lose weight as well. These are things we can incorporate in our daily lives at home as well. Thanks so much for sharing!
Absolutely!!
Way to go! Losing weight is always a challenge, but like you I've found that finding habits that work for you and then being consistent is the way to go. Enjoy the rest of your cruise!
Yes! Thank you! 🙏
Congratulations! And you even remember the Canadian word toque!
i did and i’m sitting here in victoria having poutine as my cheat meal! ☺️🙏
😂
Yay for you! Big accomplishment! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks so much!!🙏
Nice, cousin! Proud of you!! You just motivated me.
Thanks! :)
Thank you Kevin as always, you are a great inspiration buddy ❤
awww ty 🙏
Great to meet you on the ship!
Same here!
Way to go Kevin! Happy to hear you are almost at your goal!
thank you joni 🙏
Way to go! Excellent, healthy choices. Congratulations.
Thanks, Majorie!
Walking and intermittent fasting are great for weight loss. Keep up the good choices!
Thanks! 🙏
It was great meeting you during the Panama Canal crossing. You look great and I enjoy your content. Safe travels and keep up your videos.
Thanks William! Great meeting you as well.
Hope the medical issues are resolved. Love watching your positivity about travel and life in general. Thank you for sharing!
It is! ☺️
Another good one.....
Can't wait to see your future videos on your upcoming Cruises to Alaska., Did 2 already and another one coming up on Ruby at the end of May. On my daily walk, planning on checking the Ruby Princess at the Port of Vancouver this week end.
Im leaving Ruby on May 21st so we’ll just miss each other!
Thanks for the video! It gives me another reason to get back to the open seas. 😁
i’m definitely enjoying it
Congratulations, you look great. Doing this on a cruise is really impressive.
Thank you so much!
Good stuff man, good content
thanks
Also we are long cruisers and it’s not like a one week vacation cruise where you are, well, on vacation . We found it’s always easier to get into good eating patterns on long cruises. We have done 2 world cruises and lost weight on both. Obviously for us the home pantry wasn’t available for snacks whenever day or night even though food was always available on the ship, we didn’t go looking for something to snack on. Plus the crew! Always wanting to make food the way you requested. We love the long cruises and thanks for your diligence in handling your channel.
Yeah, it really is a different mindset when you are on the longer ones. :)
Way to go, Kevin!
Thanks! 🙏
Congratulations! I know how hard it is to drop the weight, I went through it last year and went down 20 lbs / 4.25” around my waist.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks bro! And congrats to you!
Congratulations! Your step count each day is incredible! I think my left leg weighs 178 lol Its been a challenge but have been increasing my steps each day. For me its the food options that are a challenge I hate cooking. Keep up those healthy habits!
yeah for me it’s the food too! it’s tough walking past those cupcakes
Woohoo! Keep up the good work. At home I eat the same way - green juice and nuts a.m., larger lunch, small early dinner. I find it helps keep my weight in check and I sleep better. Yoga and walking my main exercise. Need to get back to resistance training to add that muscle and bone density! Hope you enjoyed the Goonies tour.
yeah i need to integrate some resistance training as well
Congrats on your weight. I hope you love this segment of your cruise.
thanks you lynn 🙏
That's an impressive amount of steps. I really enjoyed the promenade on the Sapphire Princess. Even though some of the newer ships are shiny i think ill require a full promenade deck.
Yeah, I really like it too.
You popped up on my FYP Page and I've been binge watching your channel going back to your van life and travels and Thailand and I must say I will be traveling to Thailand, thanks to your videos. I'm curious you might explain this in one of your previous videos. Do you have a homebase in the states, a place you rest your head in between travel? I absolutely love the channel and you are so cute and personable!
I use my mother’s address for mail and stuff like that. But no real home base. I don’t like all the administrative requirements that come along with a home base. Maybe one day I’ll have one but not at the moment! :)
👍🤩💝🎉Congratulations. 🎉Thanks for sharing. I do something similar and it’s just a lifestyle choice at this point. I never let myself get out of control / too far gone. I always say “I won’t gain 20 lbs in a day”. So when I slip up with bad habits, I immediately start correcting them. 😂😆💝
yeah that is a smart philosophy
Welcome to Vancouver Kevin there is a Starbucks at the cruise port if you come ashore!
Thanks!!!
I’m down by the exit looking at the stern of the Ruby
Really well done on your weight loss ! I was wondering if, or why you don’t use the ships gym ?
I will in the future but wanted to focus on getting that weight off.
Great job!! I've been fasting daily for 16 hours for 2 years and lost approx. 20 lbs. & holding. It's a great tool & saves money. I eat breakfast with a protein shake halfway until lunch which is usually a salad with fish or poultry. It's important to focus on protein intake in order to maintain muscle. I'm avoiding white sugar, food made with white flour, & pasta. I workout for 2.5 hrs./day 3-4 days/wk. which includes resistance training. I've been told that a cruise would not be a good value with my food intake. My response is access to food 24/7 is not the sole reason why I would cruise since there's more to life than eating.
i need to try that morning protein shake idea
I know that when I went on a cruise, I didn't GAIN weight even though there was lots of great food to eat. I think it was because of being active all the time when off the ship. There also wasn't that convenience of grabbing (junk) food while out and about on some excursions, but I also wasn't 'starving' because I didn't have food all the time lol.
Good point!
Thanks again for these great videos. Wondering, are you using the scale in the gym to weigh yourself?
yes…i also have a little travel scale i travel with
Congrats on losing 132 lbs! Interesting enough, I'm currently attempting to gain 30 lbs. Come to think of it,, maybe we should have just traded with one another and made it easy. Haha.
haha..we’ll it’s easy to gain on a cruise ship!
@@30AndAWakeUp That's a great excuse for me to take a cruise!
I hope you brought along some smaller size pants! Great going on your health journey.
haha…i did
Great video. That's a lot a' steps. On your "fu fu" coffee. I display closed captions and it spells it "fuu".
Go Navy!, or better, Fly Navy!!
haha..that is funny!
Good job I'm currently very overweight need to loose around 80lbs and I want to take vacations and still stay on track and enjoy my vacation and indulge a little while on vacation cruises food is available all day everyday good job😊
Thanks.
I took my first cruise in December and it was 34 days. I also kept my steps up over 20k plus went to gym everyday! I ate in main dining hall for ever dinner and also ate at 5 pm. I found main dining hall had a great selection of healthy choices. I usually ordered seafood, 2 desserts and double veggies. I have a big sweet tooth!
For breakfast and lunch and I ate in buffet. Unfortunately I have no will power so tried too many option but filled up on fruits and veggies!
In a way, it is easier to eat healthier because you don’t have to prepare and there are so many options….so a lot of variety!
I wasn’t trying to lose weight and I didn’t gain any Wt which I was proud of.
I
yeah that is the key finding the balance between walking and enjoying all the food options while not gaining any weight - awesome you were able to figure that out
Nice bideo 🙂🙂🙂 walking and low carb. Lean meats - i love turkey, chicken, and fish, so not a hardship.
Yeah, I wish they had more turkey on the cruise ship :)
I totally get how you would lose weight on a cruise ship. First, you're relaxed and not stressed out which means you're not accumulating more cortisol which makes it hard to lose weight. You're also getting natural vitamin D from the sun when yoire outdoors, yoir sleep patrern is aligned to your circadian rhythm. You're eating all the right kinds of food, and definktely getring eankugh complex carbs with your vegetables and fruit. (Some just go on an all carnivore diet which doesnt include complex carbs because they think all carbs are bad. Simple carbs are the sugars, pasta,, bread and rice.) So thanks for being a great example with your food choices. And youre not drinking alcohol as most people would do on a week long cruise. And on top of that you are always active. A walk after each meal is great! Whenever i go on any vacation, I tend to lose weight myself, especially in a cruise. Usually 7 lbs for a 7-10 day cruise. Thanks for sharing your story, being a wonderful example and an inspiration to many.
Ahh thanks, I really appreciate your comment!
Did you climb the tower in Astoria? Now there's some steps!
i missed that!!!
Hello 😃Kevin great job on your weight loss journey 💪🏼🙂👍🏼👏🏼
Changing the subject did you know that Mac Donald’s bought a new cruise ship 🛳️😄😄
I already smashed the like button 👍🏼
Take care!
Chao 👋🏼✌🏼🫶🏻
don’t tell anyone but i LOVE Big Macs…i’d go on that cruise ship
@@30AndAWakeUp don’t worry 😉 I won’t tell anyone 🍟🍔😂. Just go for it !’ 🛳️😃👍🏼🍀
You look fine, Kevin & truth, too many options to eat. Thanks
thank you 🙏
i do exactly the same re lots of walking to keep from getting fatter than i already am. problem is i'm starting to feel like my upper body get hardly any exertion. i can't really carry around weights on my travels and i just couldn't get to grips with those band things. also a walk is enjoyable and sticking to some weights would be hard for me anyway.
yeah i need to do more resistance training
Check out Juice and Toya CZcams channel…HIIT exercises and have a playlist for resistive training without weights.
Impressive! I just spent 7 weeks aboard QM2 and did 8k to 15'000 steps every day, ate mostly protein. Despite drinking a whiskey now and then and white wine, my clothes all fit loose by now. Back at home I will continue the walks and cut the alcohol.
I need to try the QM2…Ive heard it’s great for walkers.
@@30AndAWakeUp the comedian aboard QM2 joked "The average age aboard the ship is .... deceased."
BZ! Time for a "Cool Change"!
yes
That’s awesome , You look great . Can you tell me what you use to count your steps ?
iphone and apple watch
@@30AndAWakeUp Thank you 😁
That's cool cause I've been fasting too, have you noticed any of the mental clarity benefits? Fasting is definitely not as easy as everybody thinks cause your body knows its not getting as much food as it used to so when it finally gets fat and calories it will store it in the hardest to reach places. So not only do you have to be mentally strong during the fast you also have to be very mindful in what you eat when your not fasting because it can have the opposite effect then what is expected.
Great points
Very helpful!! Thank you!
A cruise stops in Astoria?😁 Spent a night there once on a road trip up/down the coast.
I've been fasting everyday for years now and haven't lost weight. I feel better, but I think I'm eating too much when I do eat. 🐽
It’s probably helping you maintain your weight though!
Add resistance training 2-3/wk
absolutely!
Congrats on the weight loss! How do you weigh yourslef on a ship? I brought a digital scale and the motion of the ship made the results meaningless. Still managed two cruises w/ only a couple lbs weigh gain on each which was easy to get rid of at home. My trick in addition to tons of walking, like you, is I force myself to live in a world without elevators. So on Virgin, bopping between decks 6/7 and 15 multiple times a day you really do get some calories burned! I think in 10 days on Virgin I took the elevator... twice?
Yeah, you have to wait until port days to weigh yourself to get an accurate reading. Every ship gym has a scale.
Great 👍
Question about water on board. I drink a lot of water. On my next cruise I won’t be buying the drink package. Do you drink “tap” water onboard? If not, what are the options? Thanks :)
absolutely…you won’t find better water but if it worries you you can bring bottled water with you
Kevin we need to cruise together again so we can take a new picture showing our new skinny selves.😊
I agree!!!!! 🙌
27,000+ a day is crazy! I think my legs would fall off if I did that more than 3 days in a row! 😅 Very impressive!!
haha….i just slowly built up to that to be honest….now i feel like I haven’t done anything if I walk 20k!
I do virtual treadmill walks to get my steps in. Could you do one of the ship on one of your walks :)
yeah they have lots of treadmills
Good to know if I ever go on a cruise that they have them. It would be cool if you could do a CZcams walk-through video of the ship for us land dwellers😊
This is a great idea! Take us on a walk with you one morning - start filming from leaving your room til whenever the walk stops, the full two or three hours (or as long as your camera battery will last!) It'd really feel like we were there with you. You don't need to do any big introduction to it or whatever. Just title it "Virtual Morning Walk Through The Ruby Princess" (or the ship name? I can't remember lol) and just put up an uncut chunk of video. People will love it and you'll probably get a lot of views from people who haven't found your channel yet, as a lot of people are searching for virtual walks on CZcams already.
Wow, that a lot of walking at 4:00 a.m! Do you listen to music are audible books? How do you engage your brain without losing interest?
I listen to music, podcasts and audio books!
I walk a bit ..half hour to 1 hour. I can’t refuse the buffet on the ships, and I put on 11 pounds on a 7 day Alaska cruise. Wish I had your willpower. 😇
i get that for sure 👍
Wow! 30,000 steps is 15 miles (24 Kilometers). That is a lot of walking. Congrats on meeting your goal. For the 99.999% of us who do not live full time on a cruise ship, that is probably the last place we will hope to lose weight. I'm OK with not gaining a lot (which is extra hard on Princess) but if I lost weight on a cruise, I would ask for my money back.
haha…I get that for sure!!!
You haven’t been posting lately. Just checking into see if you are okay.
awww thanks for checking up on me! working on a vid now!
Can't wait for the next videos! Im having withdrawal symptoms!!@@30AndAWakeUp
Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger also filmed in Astoria.
I learned that later. Funny, I just watched that movie a few months ago and didn’t put two and two together!
With all that walking you’re ready to walk the Camino de Santiago.
it’s on my list 🚶
@@30AndAWakeUp you could promote it as “How I trained for the Camino while living in a cruise ship”.
@@DunRovinRanch-1969 haha..i love that :)
Curious.....do you drink diet soda?
I use to but cut it out for a bit.
I weighed 210 when I was 19 and started working at USSTEEL in 69.🥴
🙏👍
Well done! To all the ladies struggling like me just not to put on weight, don’t forget he is young and no menopause
fair point
Cookies 24/7?? Certainly not the the NCL Getaway that I just came off of, where you can't find a cookie for love nor money
oh no!!!

haha! 🤣 once i reach my goal

How are you feeling since losing weight??
Amazing!
How tall are you? Weight doesn't mean much if we don't know how tall you are.
a little over 5’11
@@30AndAWakeUpYou will be under that when you get old like the Oldgoat. I was 6'2 ,now just 6'.😮
If you want to do any type of fasting don't just go to a doctor, consult a nutritionist too, doctors don't get much training on nutrition
great point for sure
Can we see you in a bikini bathing suit? Lol..Congrats
no one wants to see that!!! 🤣
