- While taking an inside look at the build and testing of the brand new Tuff 34, we learned that the original Tuff design was inspired by the classic Challenger hulls. As luck would have it, our friend Greg Keeling had come upon an original Challenger 21 from 1979. In fact, Greg's boat is THE original Challenger 21, hull number 0001, the first one off the line. Complete with a crushed velour interior, 8-track deck, foot throttle and a pair of thirsty Evinrude 235 outboards, this is a blast from the past... and a blast on the water!

Man, that just feels like it would have been space age in 1979, beautiful looking boat.
I spent my summers as a kid at my grandparents cottage on lake of bays. We were 4 doors down from where this boat was stored. My cousin and I would Putt by trying to sneak a peak at it sitting up in the boat house. One day, we finally caught a glimpse of her, the owner had finally taken her out for a rip. What an absolutely menacing sound those evins made resonated through the bay!!!! Man I love boats!!

My dad used to work at OMC in Peterborough, they used to have a performance division. The story is they were trying to tune a boat similar to this to run 100mph on Little Lake. And only got 98 mph.. super cool boat thanks
When the perfect fairy tale gets to the old Evinrude trying to start I laughed too hard, because that's exactly how my old Evinrude starts, lol!!!

I own the black and gold boat in the first 10 seconds of the video. It was the first hull used to make the Tuff 21. Happy to share the history and the boat is in perfect condition. It is one of the only American built Challenger 21's built by George Linder in Canada. Please contact me for more info.

Can relate. My dream boat growing up was the Baja sport 240. In the late 80’s it was one of the coolest affordable offshore boats available. They are still a few out there and they bring big money.
They are cheap in Maryland.
