  • Two weeks ago, Fatsaan Wing Chun master (lineage: Yip Man - Gwok Fu - Gwok Wai Jaam), and current president of the “Fatsaan Wing Chun Association” had organized a seminar/lecture, covering in great detail the Chi Sau training progression of his school.
The seminar spanned a number of session over the weekend, starting out with a presentation and detailed analysis of the “Chi Sau Sum Faat” of the style.
:”Sum Faat” is a common term in Chinese Gung Fu and translated literally mean something like “Heart Method”. While some teachers attach some more “spiritual” or “philosophical” meaning to the term, it is generally used to refer to the fundamental “rules” or “requirements” of a given style. Manifesting these “Sum Faat” in practice and application thus form the identity and determine the uniqueness of a particular style.
Establishing the foundation of the Chi Sau method, the lecture then progressed into a presentation of the specific concepts of the three sets, Siu Lim Tau, Cham Kiu and Biu Zi and as they are integrated into Chi Sau practice, followed by a presentation of the various techniques, skills and training methods used at different stages of Chi Sau training.
Following this, Master Gwok went into the more advanced aspect of Chi Sau training as practiced in his schools, integrating various types of footwork and operating at different ranges, culminating in explanations and demonstrations on how Chi Sau practice is related to and transfers to actual fighting.
After participating in the seminar, every participant clearly understood and appreciated the highly developed and progressive training system for skill development and practical application passed on in the Gwok Wai Jaam Wing Chun style.
Thanks to Master Gwok and the organizers for putting on this event!
