- In Valve's now iconic 'Team Fortress 2' they created the world's first War-themed Hat Simulator. Two teams of RED and BLU mercenaries battle it out across countless warzones with intense firepower and fine head-based tailoring. Somewhere behind all of this is some sort of deep conspiracy with two warring factions, corporate intrigue and muscular hirsute Australians. But really we know it's all about the hats.
Harry101UK and I have been talking about this project for YEARS but I actually wrote it before we'd even met, long before I was ever recording music. If memory serves, I'm fairly certain that this song was the first rap I ever wrote. The earliest recorded demo of this song dates back to 2016 but the lyrics had existed for at least 2-3 years before that.
Of course I've been back through and updated the lyrics a bit to reflect 6+ years of writing and music experience. (the old beat I originally wrote to was almost half the speed, so some lyrics had to be streamlined to make them say-able!) The Engy and the Medic got the biggest re-writes, because the Engy lyrics were a total tongue twister that was unsayable at this speed and because I'd actually already recycled the Medic's original verse to be used in my Surgeon Simulator song.
I moved house recently and knew I'd have to take several weeks off from working on videos to do so, so now seemed like the perfect time to resurrect this project and have someone else make a video for me for the first time. And who better than the magnificent Harry101UK? We'd been talking about the idea of doing this project for the longest time and I'm so grateful to Harry for stepping up and spending the last couple of months to make this incredible animation.
And I'm equally grateful to my amazing Patrons who funded the project! Thank you to every one of you. I'm immensely proud of this video and I'm thrilled to be able to share it with you all after so many years!

When the engineer said "I've got a cranium laced with uranium" you could hear a faint Geiger counter beeping in the background. Stupes really never lets a single detail go unnoticed
That is such a cool detail.
The camera also gets some static on it, which would happen to an old school film camera, due to the radioactive particles (likely Beta particles) interacting with the film.

I doubt anyone’s going to see this, since this song is a few years old, but as a TF2 veteran and long time fan I wanted to say I love the detail that each section of three has 1 class from each “classification” Offense, Defense and Support. I don’t know that this was intentional but it’s a seriously cool detail

Dude, we just need to talk about how good the voice acting here is. Literally every single character's accent, voice and even speaking style is 100% spot on, like holy shit these people deserve so much more recognition than they already got.
im genuinely baffled and amazed by how you are able to do so many different voices that are so different in tone and in accent, and none of them feel forced, either youve been blessed with god like vocal cords or you spent days practicing each voice, i genuinely wonder how you do it.
I am blessed with a very malleable voice. I rarely have to force anything, most voices come naturally to me! :)

The range of voices Stupendium has up his sleeve is just mind boggling
Absolutely, and to do them all with such believable gravity too!
He’s no ordinary artist, he’s an actual actor! He also knows a bunch of other stuff that makes him even more qualified as an artist

He couldn't voice solider or heavy but its still amazing how he's able to voice 7 out of 9 of the mercs.

I just noticed that besides rhyming, the only wordplay in the Heavy’s verse is metaphors. All the verses are supposed to be written by their own characters. So, I really like imagining the others trying to teach him different kinds of wordplay, and as soon as he got a good grip on one, he went crazy with it, and stuck to good, old regular statements for everything else.
He has a degree in Russian literature he probably had a good time writing this munching on a sandvich

The fact that the costume department is department number 4 implies that there are at minimum 3 other departments full of hats.
I like how at 0:27 it shows scout showing himself look good with combat, but then at 2:39 it shows that scout isn’t as great as it shows, which is really like his character in the actual series.

I really like how each characters part in the song has it's own feel to it, it really elevates the song to the next level.
The best part about this is that all their lines are so in-character. I really like other TF2 raps by others such as JT Music, but I think this one in particular _really_ nails their characterisation to a damn tee.
