This was great. A friend had been posing questions to me over the phone along the lines of what you guys are discussing. I've watched this some time ago, but what a great conversation to revisit. I downloaded that book Jon mentioned earlier by Sinclair B. Ferguson called The Whole Christ. Thanks guys. I so appreciate the content.

Thank you so much for this video. You guys are such a blessing. I was struggling so much with feelings of repentance as a first step to true salvation, was it enough, was I really His, did He really save me ect. God gave me such an overwhelming peace by the end of this video. I'm His, no more fear of His wrath or wondering if things had truly changed in my heart and mind. The reminder of His loving kindness just broke me. He showed me the changes that had truly taken place and I could feel that new heart He gave me.

A great and much-needed episode. Jon's first 5 minute open is a critical nuance. It's not what WE DO - we can mentally assent to doing a thing wrong, and yet do it again, why because we may discount the way we did it one time over another, and two that change is not enough until WE BELIEVE. If it were up to us, we can say sorry all we want, it won't lead us into change otherwise we wouldn't be sorry.
We either Believe What God says is True, (Faith) or we don't. The Work has been done, thru Christ Jesus. Nothing we ever will do will amount to a hill of beans as being worthy to get us into admission at Heaven's Gate. If it were something we could do, then Jesus would not have had to come to die in our place for our sins. His blood redeems us. This is a gift from God.
When we believe that ... the Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the Word of God, kicks in and the Holy Spirit leads a cleaning house or inner remodeling and renovation of the heart. When we are plugged into God, connected, then the Holy Spirit can start talking to our spirit, hey this needs a change, that needs revision, etc. etc. No Holy Spirit at work within, no change inside or out. This is why it is dangerous to lead people to Jesus and then leave them there on their own. It would be equal to asking a woman to marry you, she says ok I will, then you go off and never see her again.

Way for the Bible nerd whiz kids to encapsulate Ephesians in less than 15 seconds or a sound byte, good job Curtis and Kyle.

Faith and repentance are not static, the decision of a moment; they are lifelong realities of a new heart.

Kyle and Jon point out well the Law punishes, and even then how God sanctifies counseling sessions to remind people He is the good shepherd, he goes out and seeks the lost because He loves us. He leaves the others because they now know better and will stay until He returns. He seeks the wayfaring wandering one. Yet also Costi & Curtis bring a good perspective to this in saying (both very humble guys w sage-like advice) be patient as our wives and others are who have to patiently wait for the changes to take place.

I hope there will be a part two, more in depth. Like, the levels of repentance. When a bank robber repents, he doesn’t rob banks anymore. But, in these technological times, a man will look at pxrn and repent weekly but struggle.
Question make sense? An alcoholic will repent but struggle.
I have a friend that left the faith because he’s tired of dealing with conviction, so now he feels he is indeed a naturally “good” person and it’s the weighed down from the Holy Spirit.
    Continued repentance vs repentance.

Awesome conversation on repentance! Thank you pastors for speaking God's truth.

Well said Curtis, the further we disconnect with the Lord, (like King David) the more likely we can fall to sin. Think of that, one who wrote the psalms, one who loved God greatly, yet also could fall prey to sin, just like Peter. On paper and in the flesh they both looked good, till they fell. It is key to stay connected in fellowship with one another, in prayer, and in the Word. Daily sanctification and confession to (shev) turn around, realize we may not be right all the time.

The joy that Zacchaeus found was a great example. When one encounters Jesus, it is genuine. There is nothing left to doubt, second-guessing, or question. When we meet the Righteousness of Rightness the Lord and Master - no one has to sit down and point ut your sins, you know them, and as Jon later points out, you want to dedicate yourself to living and walking in that light. Which as Curtis pointed out was a little different than Judas (who looked cool on the outside, fooled the other 11 till the last minute) and Peter who didn't want to be sifted like wheat or tested, but was and even then Jesus prayed for Him as He intercedes for us, that his & our "faith" would not fail. After the burial, the boys did quiet down and returned to their worldly jobs going back to what they knew - fishing. There on the beach, Jesus asked Peter while giving them not only fishing tips but serving them breakfast, Pete do you love me? Now it's not that the Lord didn't know this. Pete answered and this went on 3 times, Jesus you know I phileo you - he loved and cared about Jesus as a friend, and his welfare as a human being. It was where Peter was at. He wasn't ready to agapeo him yet (feed my sheep) - Jesus met him where he was at, what he could do. He was no longer the brash Peter who said, far be it from me to deny you, these all may, but not me. No he was a humbled and repentant Peter, knowing he had to depend on the Lord, and not himself anymore. So just like he publically failed 3x Jesus reminded him 3x and he was publically re-installed and re-instated to ministry, and the rest of the story you know. It is God that is at work within us to do as He wills and pleases in carrying out His will. We may not always be in agreement or on board, most of the time we are in awe along for the ride, saying like wow Lord, and that is the adventure of walking with the Lord, it is He that can do the miracles and the impossible things.

What are your pastoral thoughts on Living Waters’ way of preaching the gospel? It seems like Ray Comfort MIGHT use a “repent and believe” approach as opposed to what you said about “believe and repent.”

Who would have ever pictured Curtis as Nacho Libre at Dodger Stadium? These stories deserve some greater investigation and introspection.

Now I am curious to know if there is a closet with a "crummy mummy" at Costi's house they take out and have a family beat the mummy night on. I love Costi, he tells it like it is in a humble manner, a lot like Curtis too, both great empathetic counselors understanding where they were, where Christ took them from, what Christ continues to do in them both, and where they are headed. We are blessed to have you, 4 men, to share with us each week. While the women not present may disagree with this assessment, perhaps they will be on a future episode, if the men dare. Boys we will be praying for you.

Jesus said repent and believe. When your talking about repentance look at the sermon on the mount. Repent and faith and regeneration happen at once.
