I think that the right way to test this lens is to compare it to something wide as it is. For example 38mm nonanamorphic on a crop body. The idea is to crop only top and bottom to get the same wideness with only anamorphic effects in one of the test footages. So... a slightly cropped A7III in FF mode with the 55 1.8 against the Sirui on an APS-C body will be a decent comparison. Also the fake anamorphic filters are an interesting option here to test because some of them are pretty realistic and you can use AF plus the money savings...
That feeling inside when you say to yourself "you know you're gonna get the Amamorph don't ya?"
😆
Thank you for the video! Your comparison made me pull the trigger and buy the 35mm Sirui. Of all the videos I have watched, and there have been MANY, yours was the only one to clearly show the difference between the two lens types and the benefit of using this 35mm. Thank you!
Hey man, really useful video, the full frame vs aps-c anamorphic comparison was just what I was looking for, thanks for the great content!
Glad that you liked it
Ive been wanting an anamorphic for a long time. I have absolutly no use for it tho! 😆
Thank you for showing me this lens. I ordered one today. I can't wait to start filming with it around NYC. All hobby for me so I really enjoy it.
I would love to test this anamorphic lens out. Especially for my car films
This video convinced me to purchase one of these lenses. At $699 I think I'll start with the 50mm as that's a bargain. The wide angle video shots you showed were amazing and I want to reproduce that effect myself. Your direct comparison of wide angle vs standard was an eye opener for me. Upon seeing that comparison I knew I wanted to shoot video with that lens. Thank you for the video.
How has it been using that lens, 10 months later?
thank you sir for this easy-to-understand and straight forward comparison. it's really more helpful than just talking about numbers and abstract theory.
Glad that you like it
its incredible how you can get a wider field of view with the compression of telephoto. its like having the compression of an 85mm with the FOV of a 50mm. would be incredible for indoor wedding venues
you can have same effect by cropping top and bottom
of a wide angle lens. But you lose pixels of course
@@goyangi2014 not entirely true. you don't get the same compression as with a telephoto
@@davedonovan2681 Please explain. I am genuinely curious. I am trying to decide whether I should get a anamorphic or not.
mauro. please. can you make video about issue at moza aircross2 vs sony 7iii that by remote cable control it can't record video on both sd card
I would have thought throwing an FE 1.8 50 on the a7 and cropping it would have been a better comparison
Thanks for producing one of the best videos comparing anamorphic to spherical in an objective manner. At the low price of $500 (2023) I would get the anamorphic just to have it in the "toolbox" when that style is needed.
Thanks a lot
This was so very helpful. Thank you so much.
Glad that you liked it..
Is at 3.24 info is around the wrong way? It then rectifies itself when you go to the full image/aspect ratio.I must admit I like this lens (anamorphic one) And so cheap too !
Yeah, looks like it's the wrong one in the first clips @3:24, because you notice the distinct flares from the anamorphic to the right.
Loved the video Mauro, Just came over from Facebook to watch it... I think you just sold me that lens! Stephen
Glad to hear that
Thanks bro foa video.
So Sirui lenses only working manual?
You can make it a bit wider i thing if you don t use APS crop.Crop that vigneting in fcpx and it looks even cooler
Thanks..yes already using it like that
with this lens, do you use focus peaking a lot? it's not autofocus right? i really want to get it but i'm a bit nervous about focusing for video
Yes.. focus peaking and external screen is almost a must for this lens.
On the Surui website, it says the 50mm is the FOV equivalent of an APS-C 37.5mm lens. Wouldn't it have been better to compare it a 35mm lens. That way, you can crop the top and bottom of the 35mm and it will produce almost the identical image to the 50mm?
Yes so in Full Frame 37.5 X 1.5 Crop is 56mm. This is why the Zeiss 55 is a perfect match
@@MAUROSFILMS hmm, then shouldn't the horizontal field of view be on the full frame be an exact match while the vertical field of view will have "extra" field of view so that when you vertically crop it, it should produce the exact same image? In the video above, it seems that cropping will not produce the same horizontal field of view.
@@MAUROSFILMS yes but your comparison footage with the Zeiss is also in crop mode, so you compared 56mm vs 73mm
LOOK! No colors changing in the background. GREAT!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'd like to see a comparison between an anamorphic lens on apsc vs spherical on a full frame and then crop the full frame to match the anamorphic aspect ratio. In my mind they should look very similar.
I really enjoy your videos. I noticed the filters on the cameras. I'm curious about how different filters might function with the Sirui. Something like a macro, 2x Tele, wide angle, star, etc. The Sirui looks really sharp on its own. I wonder if it's possible to get usable footage with cheaper filters/adapter lenses.
I trsted them with the PolarPro PM edition and Freewell VND ones. I would not mount a wide angle on it..it's not meant to be used in that way.
@@MAUROSFILMS True. I'm still curious though. ;) Thanks for the reply.
Thanks Mauro. me with Gh5 ..your explanation ..very clear and accessories..🤔.. one of your subscriber.
when you shoot in anamorphic in post production do you have to change any parameter to adapt it to the screen?
Yes... Conform it to 1.33 aspect ratio. Every editing program have this feature
@@MAUROSFILMS Could you make a little toutorial?
Sure wish it had a Canon EF mount version.
Ditto
does anybody else find that skin tones seem more even or 'right' on anamorphic lenses? I get the impression particuarly from 2x and 1.8x anamorphic lenses and can see a slight difference here with skin reflect and shading that seems a little more even.
Thank you for the test. And well... i'm not ready yet to anamorphic! It's nice but i don't really need it at the moment.
You are welcome
Anamorphic is so good i love it great video!
too late, i've already preordered it...
Can i request a video where you explore the use of IBIS on an anamorphic lens
And maximum coverage cropping from full frame
Thanks for the idea =)
@@MAUROSFILMS The GH5 has native anamorphic support a special IBIS mode for anamorphic lenses which will come in handy when i get this lens...
What's the point to compare different focal length? It looks like comparing cropped top and bottom spherical 50mm vs non cropped 70mm. Just go for a little wider spherical lens, crop for the same aspect ratio, and then maybe we would see some differences between spherical and anamorphic. But I think x1.33 anamorphic doesn't have much of that anamorphic character, except horizontal flares. Unfortunately I can't find a proper comparison spherical vs x1.33 anamorphic.
Great comparison! Deff don’t sell or get rid of your spherical :P that being said. Would I love it to be 1.8 or 2x squeeze or course! But I will say. The anamorphic has subtlety that I can’t get out of my head.
Especially with that 24 mm coming out to round out the set.
Now give us that 85 mm ;)
AWESOME review, thank you so much!
Glad that you like it
So will this be a 50mm on a apsc or a full frame
APS-C
@3:25, the right footage should be from the anamorphic lens, not from Zeiss. I can tell by the horizontal line flare.
It always gets me how damn sharp anamorphic lenses are.
Pozz
KOji adapter koristi da bi se stavio objektiv na Sony a73 ili 6300?

Hi Mauro, I can to install this lens on my dji x5s camera?
@@dronelabitaly Nope..too heavy..
What about taking photos with the Sirui Anamorphic lens? Cars, neon, cyberpunk, sci-fi cosplayers? I dont shoot videos, but all mentioned will look great with the bokeh and lens flare this lens produces... The only "but" is that i dont plan to use it for videos...
@@Mir1189 ok thanks
@@Mir1189 Remember that this is a full manual lens and you have to desqueese in post each photo. You will always be so wide, so you will have to think when shooting and how to frame every subject...
I've always been drawn to anamorphic but with the FX3 being my main camera, I can't quite make myself buy this since it's APSC...and $1500 for the Full Frame one is out of my justifiable expenditure rate at the moment. haha. Someday hopefully.
You can use clear image zoom to crop in a bit and still get 4K. If you upload to youtube you wont even notice if you upscale HD to 4K since YT makes 4K look like HD
Nice review 👍
Thanks a lot
I think you might have mislabeled the footage at 3:25.
Yes...sorry about that =)
you should have to compare with a Zeiss 35mm
All the way up to infinity. Hahahahaha that was so accurate !!
well done
what is 1.33x in sirui?
The anamorphic squeeze
@@MAUROSFILMS oh, the croping? will it give the same result if normal lens properly croped in post procesing?
sorry im asking a dumb question..
i waiting for sirui anamorphic for Full frame :-)
Mee to..one day😉
.. to infinity.. and beyond!
Need a 30 mm anamorphic!
Mee to
Bravo!! Però quanto si sente l’accento italiano nel tuo inglese!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
E che si senta🤙
I LOVE❤THIS
Thanks
Sirui image is much nicer.
your english accent is very unique
I am unique😂🤪
Yeah anamorphic look more cinematic
Sirui is annoyingly crispy for an anamorphic lens imo
Yea it's pretty sharp
I’m willing to trade my Samyang 35 1.4 for it
Find someone😀
terrible trade lmao
Zeiss is brighter.
infinity XD
Why..........
1.33x? Not worth it. At least should be 1.5. Seems pretty much the same as spherical. Not enough character..
1.33x doesn't feel very anamorphic as true cinema that is 2x
Totally true. For a 2X you have to pay a lot of money
I can tell the anamorphic lens is sharper
Hmm....the Zeiss 55 is one of the most sharpest lenses out for the E-Mount system. Both were used in MF so it could be slightly off focus by some bits..
