  • This inaugural live recording of the podcast was made in London, England, on April 5th, 2024, before a sold-out audience of more than 400 people. For the first half of this episode, Zen Buddhist monk Brother Phap Huu and leadership coach/journalist Jo Confino explore what it means to step into freedom in the light of Buddhist teachings, drawing on insights from the life and teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, and including much needed practical steps which can be applied to our daily lives.
Their conversation touches upon the pressure of perfection; layers of freedom; the best time to make a decision; experiencing gratitude; true happiness; vulnerability as an expression of love; working with the feeling of ‘not enough’; and much more.
The second half of the episode consists of a live question-and-answer session, with questions from the audience covering a wide range of topics: ways to embrace suffering; compassionate sharing; ending wars by cultivating peace; the joy of missing out; cultivating aspirations; empathy and mindfulness; and more.
And this time you can even enjoy two short meditations guided by Brother Phap Huu.
    Thank you for listening!

I feel connected to Thích Nhất Hạnh's teachings and Buddhism. Thank you to you for transmitting this knowledge the way you do. 💖
This video came as a synchronicity yesterday morning while I was thinking that it is about accepting life as it is, with pain and joy, and I started listening to the podcast last night with much interest. ✨
This morning, I was wondering why people decide to become monks, etc. Is it related to meaning and happiness?

Thank you both so much, and your team, for continuing to provide hope and practical guidance in these severely challenging times. I would like to offer a suggestion. It struck me when Jo said something to the effect that 'people seem content to go about their lives as if nothing were wrong...' I think the operative word here is 'seem'. Everyone I know is stressed to the absolute maximum and doing the best they can while trying to live in a world where they can't trust any of the systems that are in place in government and business. Please don't blame the victims. I hear the a lot, that people don't understand or aren't willing to...I think this is wrong thinking. Please tell the climate activists and others who are working on the edge of systems change that it is not the people who are the problem. We do so much with so little and even when we do they lie and cheat us: as with 'plastic can be recycled'. as only one example. Focus on changing the governments and holding business and governments to account. The people are more than willing to change and work for change, despite our immense overwhelm. Please reconsider this wrong view. Thank you SO MUCH for your work. You all give me hope and support which I am so grateful for.

The comments on Gaza apply more to a civil war like Vietnam than to a genocide like is happening in Gaza. Although of course dialogue is important, it's a more one-sided situation where the aggressor (the state committing genocide) doesn't want dialogue, while the people of Palestine hardly need to be reminded of the importance of dialogue and a ceasefire; there is no dialogue presently, only genocide, bombing shooting and starving civilians.
