I used to buy WAX and Hollandaise materials in those areas in 1988/89. There is katinkwuri and others near the Kano City areas. I am watching and listening from USA. There are so many changes in Kano as per development and constructions. During that time Chinese textiles never arrived in the market. Things that cost five thousand naira then is from twenty up. That is quality Hollandaise materials not wax ABC local.

We have lots of textile industries that stop working due to one reason or the other in kano. I think this is one of the reasons behind this massive importation of textiles

I love ur contents and how u explore Nigeria.. Best of luck to more of exploitations.. Just one correction, Kano's Kwari market is the BIGGEST textile (excluding laces, which Lagos takes that) market in the whole of West Africa... Show me any market which u know of in Nigeria that's as big and busy as kwari, and u owe my an apology. I can see u visited the market in the early hours when it's less busy. Try it from 2pm upwards.

    Another Great video.
Wow that young lady has a good arm the way she landed that fabric infront of you, perfect throw.
Through listing to your interactions with the shopkeepers, I've learnt that different tribes have different designs on their textiles and that like here in Australia sadly Chinese fabric now dominates the market.
    Cheers Ian

We really should ban imports of textiles and foreign clothing in Afrika. It's little things like this that keep us "poor" and suffering. Simple things we can make ourselves should never be imported and especially not necessities like food or clothing

Maybe if you burst into speaking Hausa they may drop the price.
It's disappointing to hear that something so fundamental is dominated by China. They don't even wear our style of clothing. This is gap " that needs to be plugged!" Think how many jobs that could be created.
