    Sadness and happiness most probably could be an evaluation of the situation and store it in our system and then pass it on to another generation so that they may know what things to avoid because otherwise it could go wrong and you will face this the results. And vice versa for happiness

    Something different about emotions: Emotions are energy in motion trigger by your thoughts. We have 5 emotions to help ourselves express in this physical form, Love, Grief, Anger, Envy, and Fear. Love is receiving, giving, and accept unconditionally, but if you repressed this emotion, you become possessive and controlling. Grief can help you express your goodbyes to your loved ones, but if you repress this emotion, you can develop depression, Envy is a motivator that allows you to be and have more, but if you repress this emotion, you become jealous. Anger can help you to express your disappointment and expectation, but if you repress this emotion, you become enraged. Fear can help you avoid outside danger, but if you repress this emotion, you can develop panic attacks. Emotions come from your soul manifested through the brain and body. Enjoy :))

      @@Brainstorm69 I am doing great, thanks. I still writing more books, giving spiritual life coaching, and teaching some dancing. If you raise your energy or vibration, then you can protect yourself from illnesses, or viruses (lower vibration) and keep you healthy. When you express love, wisdom, freedom, joy, and peace (soul's consciousness) then you are raising your vibration. Fear (lower vibration), on the other hand, will lower your immune system and you may catch illnesses or a virus. Take care of yourself!

    3:48 absence of negative emotions means peace. And serenity if negative emotions wiped out deeply. Happiness is not the absence of something negative. Happiness is something existential in its own. It could be the property of happiness to remove negativity (if you have substantial intensity of happiness)

    I was going to speculate that happiness and sadness are byproducts or emergent properties of human intelligence, yet we seem to observe these emotions in other animals. Perhaps happiness is to encourage us in good behaviours, much like dopamine, and sadness tells us what situations or circumstances aren't useful or conducive to survival. But then again, happiness and sadness often seem completely unrelated to our inherent need to survive, so we're back at square one.
    Anyway, yw for my 2 cents.

    I liked the movie cuts to examplify the emotions. But the cuts between the emotions felt a bit sudden; maybe work on transitions? Also some issues with pacing - sometimes you randomly start rushing, you know? Fiinally, music/backgrounds sound are too loud sometimes especially in the beginning.

    Let's comment for a second on how messed-up Plutchik's wheel is.
    Joy opposite of sadness: seems legit.
    Disgust is opposite of Trust: weird flex but...
    Anger is opposite of Fear: Uhhh, they're both kinda negative, so shouldn't they share that dimension? How is this dimension the other cardinal direction from Happiness/Sadness? So we have like Happy Anger, and that is Interest? Uh...
    Happy-Fear is Trust: WTF. Seriously, WTF is this ridiculousness. How the F-ing F is Fear right next to Trust? In what bizarre world does that even cast a shadow on making sense?
    The issue with Plutchik's wheel is that Sadness is not an emotion. Pleasure is also not an emotion, and Sadness is the opposite of Pleasure. It is more basic than an emotion. Disgust is the opposite of the most positive emotion of Affection, Attraction, or Love depending on the descriptive word you choose. The other dimension is certainty vs uncertainty, much like Plutchik's Trust and Surprise, although they should be properly opposed. Seriously, how the F did Plutchik not oppose trust and surprise? This Certainty/Uncertainty dimension is much more clearly orthogonal to the Attraction/Revulsion dimension. Also, we can see Anger falls neatly in between Certainty and Revulsion as well as Fear falling neatly between Revulsion and Uncertainty. Attraction and Uncertainty is similar to Plutchik's Interest, and what I label as Exhilaration. Serenity/Joy is offset from the cardinal positive affect dimension because it combines Affection/Attraction with Certainty.

    • @Brainstorm69
      @Brainstorm69  Před 5 lety +1

      Haha. I love this comment. And I'm totally on board with your assessment of the situation here Shiva's Right Foot.
      Plutchick's wheel is kinda messed up and makes no physiological sense what so ever. I think it is a classic sense of an intellectual falling in love with his own creation without testing it against the clear evidence of everyday life and/or rigorous affective experiments. Other people picked it up from there because it is easy to look at, and fancy. People share it all over the internet as the thing for understanding emotions.
      I personally would call sadness an emotion. But Pleasure should not be on there and is indeed more basic. I really like your certainty dimension as orthogonal to attraction.
      A concept that you might find more in line with reality, especially a huge chunk of the evidence in Neuroscience, physiology, and developmental psychology is the Circumplex Model of Affect (See Russel & Barrett). This makes way more sense and is based on the two dimensions of Arousal & Valence, which act as physiological proto-emotions or states of affect.
      Thanks for your detailed and savage take-down of Plutchick's wheel, appreciate it.
      "The foot is DOWN!" (Shiva's in this instance)

    • @shivasrightfoot2374
      @shivasrightfoot2374 Před 5 lety

      @@Brainstorm69 I half remembered the Circumplex model, and after a brief review I remember my objections: Plutchik's wheel includes an intensity aspect, and that is basically one dimension of the Circumplex model, the Arousal dimension. While the Valence dimension is similar to Attraction/Revulsion, the lack of a Certainty/Uncertainty analogue reveals issues. How is the difference between Fear and Anger represented? Both are negative affect and can be intense, but are clearly opposed in some way. On the opposite end of things, Vindication and Exhilaration are positive affect emotions which are also opposed in the dimension of Certainty/Uncertainty, and both of which can be intense. Curiosity is labeled as a high Arousal emotion, but I'd ask what emotion the posts in r/mildlyinteresting stimulate? It seems like a low intensity kind of curiosity. Tension is also listed as a high Arousal emotion, but there is a difference in the intensity of tension because someone told an off-color joke and the tension in a gun stand-off.

    The purpose of sadness is easy. It's meant for understanding when its time to let go and move on. Start looking for a new beginning. Because unless you do you will be stuck being sad forever. Stuck in one perpetual state, no change, no growth or de-growth. It's meant to serve as a drive, a means to keep you moving forward.
    Totally disagree about happiness. It's a reward system. It's meant to serve as a set of conditions to let you know that you are going the right way. Doing the right thing, or have made the right choice multiple times in a row. Have had success enough times to be happy and 'winning'. Of course it also comes in waves for there to be a balance. Happiness wouldn't be happiness unless you weren't sad from time to time.

    • @Brainstorm69
      @Brainstorm69  Před 4 lety +1

      I love your thoughts W711. Sadness as a motivational force for change is an interesting concept. Could very well be the case. One objection would be that people who are chronically sad are rarely very motivated, it almost seems to suck energy and motivation out of you, defeating the purpose of it being a driving force for change. Perhaps pain is a better classical sensation to achieve the same thing?
      Happiness as a barometer for you moving forward successfully in life is a great idea. How could we test it?
      Take care and be safe :)

      @@Brainstorm69 Thank you! You have a nice little channel going there... Hope you plan to continue working on it...
      Yes that's kind of the thing with sadness. It's a stick with two ends, can go both way's. There is always a possibility to get stuck in a loop however once you brake it the feeling of reward could be even grater. I'd even go as far as to say that if people would throw away the belief that certain experiences/trauma stick for the rest of your life, which it seems many people happen to believe in. Most horrible experiences could be handled right away minimizing the possibility of getting too stuck in the past for prolonged periods of time... Of course healing is a process and doesn't happen overnight.
      I think when it comes to depression, assuming that that's what you meant by continuous sadness we have to consider that it's a state of mind/mental experience rather than an emotion. Emotions are byproduct of external stimuli but at the same time your own mental outlook can have a significant influence upon how you filter the incoming stimuli. You could say that your mental state is a sort of looking glass through which you shape/reshape and re-morph incoming reality. So in that sense it can cause a perpetual cycle of returning to the same given state over and over...
      Bringing me to my last point which is that we are run by programs created by our brain's based on our experience, one good example you could mention is how each emotion physiologically is really just a program triggered by a series of impulses. Same thing is our beliefs or even belief systems... Once you repeat a sentence enough times in a row it get's written into your subconscious as a belief. Then take into account that subconsciousness really governs almost all of your physiology(heart, respiratory system, glands, organs etc), everything you don't govern consciously, the list is endless. These sort of beliefs form belief systems which essentially govern our entire outlook of how the world and reality works. So in that sense... When it comes to cycles and mental states I believe that your belief's play a much larger role than it might seem on the surface.
      Sorry for the long read... Have a nice one! I hope you are well too! ^^
