      Great comparison. I love all of them. They are all in my favourite list. For playing time, WOTR is much ahead as it looks much more finished content wise. In my personal opinion WOTR and solasta will satisfy newcomers and veterans both. BG3 will mostly for newcomers. It can attract new players to CPRG fun. Multitude of options, diversity and strict rule set of WOTR can be hard to understand and manage for new players.

    Spot on about how a slightly lower graphic's quality can actually engage the player more, as (I think) it allows and requires them to invest their own imagination into it, filling in those details. Similar to how a well written book draws the reader in as they mentally craft the narrative.

I've restarted more times than I'd like to admit to just to create 6+ more characters and try out the different classes. I put "NPC" in quotes because they advance and function just like your main character, so it's sort of like you have many mains IMHO.

    I generally have a fondness for lower budget titles like Solasta. It's makes things more risky obviously but at the same time in the right hands I'd argue a limited budget can be a greater boon than having the money to do whatever you want. Limitation forces innovation and creativity. It pushes the devs to not only carefully curate and edit their work to make it as tight and effective as possible within the limited scope of what they can afford and accomplish but also forces them to be creative when figuring out how to handle things. Like figureing out how to tell their story without relying on fancy cutscenes, big name graphics, or big budget actors and therefore focus more on making sure the pieces they have and can afford really pop and get as much bang for the buck that they have as they can sometimes leading to interesting art styles, unique story telling, and more of a focus on really making the main cores that they have shine to make up for what they can't include. Meanwhile a larger budget can lead to a risk of complacency where the devs feel too comfortable in believing they can pull off everything and end up biting off more than they can chew or just try to throw everything in because they can afford to and end up with a jack of all trades master of none type scenario or worse a game that can't come together because of the pile of nonsense on top of it. Again sure the situation can flip in both situations. A huge budget can lead to an amazing game and a small budget can dwindle away leaving the project unfinished but honestly I'm happy to take a shot on the group striving to overcome despite their limitations than the one who think they can do everything.

    This is pretty cliche, but I'm gonna say it anyway: in Pathfinder, as in most things in life, hard work pays off. True, it's based on a MUCH more complicated tabletop RPG than BG3 and Solasta (Pathfinder, or D&D 3.5, vs. D&D 5e) -- but if you invest the time in learning it and understanding it, it pays off sooooooo much. You can reach incredible levels of depths, you can replay the game dozens of times, each time with a different party that plays completely differently than your last one, you can really find incredible combinations of feats and abilities... It's by far the hardest to master and the one with the steepest learning curve of the three, but in my eyes it's also far more rewarding.

Los 3 juegos serán buenas joyas que se estaban esperando.

I truly love Larian for realizing how enjoyable big RPGs can be with someone else and yhat they want to push that style of play. What I like about Wrath of the Righteous is that it contains a lot of advanced classes (classes with unusual mechanics) right out of the gate, like Magus (melee mage), Inquisitor (summoner/warlord), Cavalier (mounted tank), Alchemist (thief/spellcaster with bombs and self buff), etc... Baldur's Gate 3 classes are quite basic and just the usual ones from standard 5e.

    • @nyx7664
      @nyx7664 Před 2 lety +3

      Well, compared to Pathfinder, 5e is just all-round so much simpler, even the CRPGS, which don't even have all of the classes from the ttrpg yet, already has more complexity than ttrpg 5e in its entirety, and the power ceiling in 5e is so much lower than in Pathfinder - My fav point of comparison was a comment from a D&D streamer called Arcadum "In Pathfinder, you can destroy the entire world with 6 bards and 1 barbarian at lv 1, you can't do that in 5e".

The sheer variety of feats and their integration into every class can seem overwhelming at first. Some folks swear by that complexity and find themselves 'bored' with simpler games. Having played BG3, Solasta, and the first Pathfinder, I can attest to the fact that there's not a bad apple in the bunch. I have a love/hate affair with my favorite of the three - Baldur's Gate 3, in that it's more a spiritual successor to the Divinity: Original Sin series than the Baldur's Gate series. As that series still remains one of my favorites of all time, this was a hard pill to swallow. Not that the Divinity series is bad, it's not, it's fantastic - but I'd have preferred more of a Baldur's Gate 'feel' than a Divinity 'feel'. What I appreciate most so far is the cinematic approach, and the stellar graphics. Sorry, having been around since Pong, I appreciate cutting-edge graphics when they're available. I know the argument: good gameplay is more important than good graphics. My rebuttal is that a AAA game should have both. Baldur's Gate 3 does. This also already feels like the biggest of the three games, in the most open world, and that really appeals to me, too.
    Pathfinder: Kingmaker is good, very detailed, and fun to learn the new rules and lore while playing. The character creation process alone is both daunting and fascinating. The game can be difficult though. I'm literally still stuck in a battle that I simply can't progress past. After reading through forums and whatnot, it seems my only option would be to re-roll characters and come back through the game, because I don't have any of the skills/magic it would require to beat these creatures. As a result, I set the game down and haven't picked it up in a while, so I think they dropped the ball here.
    And finally, Solasta - I just picked it up recently and found the character creation probably the most user-friendly and intuitive. It also feels the most D&D-legit of the three games, even though there are a lot of missing features. What's nice is that during character creation, the UI is very keen to telling you when a particular skill, language, etc. is NOT being used in game so far, so you don't accidentally spend all your points on things you'll never be able to use. Would suck to make a decision in the beginning that would halt my progress later down the road in the game (cough: looking at you, Pathfinder).
    Solasta, with the smallest budget and team, can really hold its own against those other two games, which is remarkable and commendable, and in some cases, Solasta even does things better than the other two games. Character face models are NOT one of those things! But character background having an effect on what the character says and how they behave is really, really cool - better than the other two. I like how you don't have one set hero around which everyone else orbits. In this case, all four of your characters are your 'central character', and I love how they play off each other.
    Three great games. Personally I'd suggest grabbing Pathfinder:Kingmaker and Solasta now, as they're complete. The next Pathfinder and Baldur's Gate are in development still. I only got so far in Baldur's Gate 3 before I knew I'd want to put it down and wait until the full release before continuing. I'd just rather it be a polished, done project.
    Anyway, great time to be alive if you're a top-down, isometric D&D CRPG enthusiast. And don't forget to grab Wasteland 3 and Disco Elysium, two more incredible games in the top down/iso CRPG genre.

    300 hours in the beta of BG3 , you my friend are simply INSANE! I mean , i need to ask if you are preparing to do a literal blind run of the first act.

    I'm actually playing Solasta, while the game isn't nearly as pretty as most TwRiPLE A games, it is actually pretty fun, especially since I'm trying to learn about how DnD style RPHs works.

    Taking a break from Baldurs Gate 3 to finish my old Kingmaker file. Excited to hear about a new Pathfinder! Certainly did spend about half a day creating a character.. lol.
