    No one is talking about how shitty this sits for Penix. Telling the oldest quarterback drafted (24 yrs old) who is probably one of the three quarterbacks drafted who could start in that position on day one that he will sit on the bench for 4 to 5 yrs. So Penix will be 28-29 yrs old before he starts. Essentially halfway through his lifespan as a NFL quarterback. If I were Penix, I would demand a trade or hold out.

      Same, he is the most pro-ready qb in this draft. He could start week 1 for 10 or more teams. If they keep cousins like you said he'll be 28 which is the age most QBs already have their long term $200M. Instead he'll be fighting for his second contract at almost 30 years old.

      He CAN question it for sure if they Lied to him. All he has to do is give minimal effort, not stay late after practice, do the Bare minimum. It doesn't matter that they paid cousins 100 million if they Lied b/c if they were truthful Cousins would have stayed in Minessota or gone elsewhere. Maybe just Maybe Cosuins wanted a chance to win during his 2-4 years. This shows that it's NOT about winning now or anytime soon, because they watsed 100 million OR they wasted the #8 pick, either one would have gotten them multiple defensive players ( #8 could have been traded down).
      It would be hilarious if Kirk dmands a trade and then you can sit there saying he can't do this or can't do that. That would screw the Falcons b/c they would Have to eat that money like Denver did to get rid of Russell Wislon. The next team will have cosuins for 1 million while SMART Atlanta ends up paying the remainder of the guaranateed money.

    @michaeljohnson7945 Před měsícem

    1.) A veteran, above-average starting quarterback who has played at an occasional Pro Bowl level is going to cost $45 million per year in today's NFL. There is a major difference between having Kirk Cousins as a team's starting quarterback vs. having spare parts such as Desmond Ridder, Taylor Heinicke and Marcus Mariota as the starting quarterback.
    2.) Cousins' deal will pay out all the guaranteed money in two years when he will be 38.
    3.) Cousins will be 36 years old and is coming off an Achilles injury at the start of the 2024 season. If Cousins was a decade younger, it would not have made sense to draft Michael Penix.
    4.) Signing Cousins will allow Atlanta to be competitive now while giving the Falcons time to develop Penix for the NFL game. Penix is not brought in to be a permanent backup but to be Cousins' eventual successor. Meanwhile, having Cousins may lead to Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Bijan Robinson having an accelerated development to where they are closer to finished products when Penix does become the starter.
    5.) Free agency occurs more than a month before the NFL draft. When Cousins was available, the Falcons had Ridder, Heinicke and Mariota (backup quarterbacks at best) and knew they needed to upgrade the position. The Falcons already started a young player who wasn't ready at quarterback (Ridder), and picking another one at No. 8 would have put them back in the same position.

    a 100 mil that should've spent on improving the defense or O-Line OR a first round pick that also can do that.
    Instead they spent all of that on a Bridge QB and a QB who ='s not gonna play for the next 2 years.

  • @MisterMooster

    This is terrible for both qbs- the gm should be fired for sure, and if the coach agrees with this, which it seems he does, he should be fired too. This pick wrecks the Falcon's chances for many years to come, they will not make the playoffs as long as they have both qbs because the team will be demoralized by not knowing who is supposed to be leading this team.

    Falcons aren’t in a win now mode. They don’t have the team to win now. I don’t understand why Kirk is confused. Penix supposed to be off the draft boards, but slipped into their lap. Falcons made the right move, Kirk can be traded, lots of teams will spend for experienced starter at QB.

    Bad business. Could have spent that 100M building the team. Paying an older QB coming off an Achilles injury 100M GTD. Then drafting a 23 year old QB at #8. They should have signed a veteran QB to start the season, then bring Penix on slowly. Bad business.

    Kirk got 100M guaranteed. The Falcons don't owe him anything else. He knows it's only a 2 deal with options. Why wouldn't you get a prime qb talent who can play after that 2 years, if necessary.

    Complete projection on Rob G's part.
    I'm sure most people who followed the draft enough to actually want to attend knew who Terrion Arnold was. (Consensus CB1/2 in this draft)
    I get if you're really casual and didn't, but if you are willing to stand around watching the draft, you probably knew who Terrion Arnold was.
    Draft doesn't get to total unknown's until like the 3rd round, just cause Rob G doesn't know any college players doesn't mean we're all like that.

    • @Paula-mv8im
      @Paula-mv8im Před měsícem

      He was drafted to be an insurance policy in case RGIII got injured. And how did that work out?
      Kirk sat on the bench behind RG3 for almost 3 full years. This isn't a case of Rodgers being groomed behind veteran Favre. This is a case of Cousins being treated like a non-starter because he was the pick of the fired head coach instead of the pick of the owner. There has been NO QB in NFL HISTORY to be treated as poorly as Kirk. A healthy QB being franchised not once, BUT TWICE, by a team with no starting QB on roster who were too cheap to pay him market value (at the time, there was no precedent for a durable franchise quarterback with no injury history to walk out the door in the prime of his career) and no #1 pick? That is insane.
      Per Joe Theismann: “Kirk hasn't even made two full starts in relief of the injured Robert Griffin III, but has already mastered head coach Jay Gruden's offense. Now, if there was a quarterback competition, it wouldn't be a competition. Kirk Cousins would be the starter because of the efficiency with which he has run the offense.”

  • @supercrash804

    The falcons say they want to replicate the packers model. The packers had Brett Favre a 3 time mvp 1 time superbowl champ. Aaron rodgers was 21 years old when drafted. When the packers drafted Jordan Love he was 21 years old sitting behind a 4 time MVP 1 time superbowl champ. The falcons just spent 180 million for 4 years for a QB with 1 playoff win and then draft a QB who will be 24 when training camp comes and plan to sit him for 3-4 years. If the Falcons plan to keep Cousins for the entirity of his contract. Penix will be 28 and the falcons will be wondering if they drafted the right guy while QBs of that age are either on another team or nearing the end of the long term contract getting ready to go to the table for the extension. If the Falcons wanted to do this they should have traded up for Drake Maye. I guarantee half the people in that Falcons war room last night will be out of a job in 3-4 years.

    • @Paula-mv8im
      @Paula-mv8im Před měsícem +1

      The difference is Favre had already been playing for the Packers for 16 years. Same with Rodgers and Love. It was 18 years for him when Love got drafted. Kirk hasn’t even played in one game.
