  • Over the years we've promoted, compared, and used the Speeco E-Hitch Quick Hitch. It sits in the foreground and background of a ton of our videos. But recently the quick hitch was voted by our viewers as one of their least favorite attachments, and yet we sell more of these than any other product. By a long shot!
    Today we go over what to expect from a quick hitch, and what not to. And give you reliable information to make an informed decision on whether on is right for you. This will primarily revolve around the Cat 1 quick hitch for subcompact and compact tractors.

    Pat’s Quick Hitch + Tractor PTO link. The two together make a world of difference. The top link is never the issue… that’s why Pat’s is awesome. Grab the implement attach your top link (you have to get off the tractor anyway to attach the PTO) and wallah… life is good. Plus you don’t have the standard metal bar on other “not so” quick hitches to work around.. making it less cumbersome and easier to connect the PTO💪🏼

      I run a rear blade when there isn't a lot of snow or to touch up my gravel driveway, no PTO to connect for that attachment so I literally just reach behind me and flip the levers down on the quick hitch I have and drive away and do my work.

      Agreed, personally I love the Pat's Quick Hitch! I know I'll always be back there adjusting the top link anyway, so just being able to get the lower pins into position easily is all I need. Then when not using it they just stay back there on the 3 pt arms and are totally out of the way!

    I purchased my Speeco quick hitch approximately 5 years ago and it has the larger holes that require the bushings. The reason some people that are older (like me) is that should you not be able to see as well as others, the larger bushed pins fit very easy even if you are off a bit. God Bless 🇺🇸😎👍

    Love the quick hitch, makes life so much easier connecting attachments. I only had one problem with the quick hitch, I sold my JD 2210 to upgrade to a JD 2038 last year and I couldn't remove the quick hitch from the 2210. The bottom pins were basically fused to the eyeballs of the three point arms. No amount of WD-40, liquid wrench, pounding or swearing would break them free. It pained me to have to buy another. You do have a great point about the bushings, seems like a needless additional expense.

    Excellent video! Those of us (like myself!) who are old enough to remember wrestling heavy attachments onto tractors with no adjustments on the 3-point hitch can truly appreciate the convenience of a quick hitch. I don't know about other brands of finish mowers, but the Bush Hog HDTH5 finish mower works perfectly with a Speeco E-Hitch. It's a great combination that works very well on my Kubota B2650. Bush Hog will even paint the finish mower Kubota orange for you if you want them to!

    I had to go with the Pats because may back blade was to narrow for a quick hitch. Where our disc sits is uneven ground and without a quick hitch/Pats it could take an hour to get it hooked up, now usually less that five minute AND NO MAJOR SWEARING. Good video on this and keep them coming

    I love my QH for hooking up to a 54" tiller. The first year was a struggle to find the perfect place to unhook it because it just wouldn't line up with the lift arms, and was just too heavy to try leveling by hand and hooking up alone. For the box blade, it's better than Pat's since I don't have to get off/on to touch anything. Just hook up and go, or drop it off and go without leaving the seat.

    Another vote for Pat’s quick hitch.
    Keep adjustable width in lower arms, no frame in get in the way of pto or hydro line hookup, no bushings needed, usually cheaper, etc. Only manual hookup is the top link, and those can be swapped out to a hydro top link. Can still work with side shift implements or post hole digger.

    I have a QH05 quick hitch from Land Pride on my Kubota BX. It has a fixed top hook and is the smaller version of 2 that they sell, which forced me to have the modify my ancient box blade to lower the top link pin position. But it was well worth it. I have a small property with a gravel driveway, about 3 acres of field that I keep cut down, and I garden. Switching between my brush hog, tiller, and box blade as needed takes less than 2 minutes including driveshaft removal/connection. I can't even imagine not having a quick hitch anymore. If I ever get another implement that does not work with my quick hitch, I will spend the money to modify the attachment so that it does. I doubt I will ever take my quick hitch off ever again. Maybe folks voting against one never really used one? Or maybe their attachments didn't match up? I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like one.
    Just a quick note, my QH05 has zero play in the bottom pins once locked. As a matter of fact, the tolerance is tight enough that my ancient box blade, whose frame is nowhere near straight anymore, just barely seats in the grooves enough to lock them in. Also, the bottom hooks fit the pins directly with no sleeve needed.
    But yeah, quick hitch is a must have in my opinion.

    • @Redneck_Ed
      @Redneck_Ed Před 2 lety

      I did a video on the QH05. If anyone is interested, you can look on my channel, it's the 8:11 point in the video where I show exactly what Doug states. Almost no play at all on the QH05 bottom pins. The Speeco is a heavier duty quick hitch and it has the adjustable top hook. Speeco e hitch is probably going to be the better solution for many people, especially if you have older attachments or if you want the weight brackets. The QH05 is rounded, so no way would those weight brackets fit.

    • @dougsholly9323
      @dougsholly9323 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Redneck_Ed Yes, I agree. The Speeco would be much more versatile. The QH05's strength is it's economical. I think I paid ~$100 from my local Kubota dealer (I can't recall now, but it was well less than 200).

    The hydraulic top link is the literal cat's arse. It is SO worth every cent I can't imagine not having it now that I have used it. And, Courtney, you are spot on about the Speeco being built to the cat 1 attachments being the best if your attachments are cat 1. I have the imatch and I can get a 55 gallon drum laying sideways in those hooks ... not really, but, they are just to big. The cat 1 designed Speeco is something I dream about. Someday... ...yes.

    Two comments. 1)as my dealer said, if the attachment is really QH compatible, you’ll never need to move the top link adjustment. 2)many of us have found bolts and nuts superior to the pin and cotter key because the cotter key will eventually fall out and you will lose the pin. Of course, if you really move the link over and over, then maybe you need the pin and cotter key.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 2 lety +3

      I've had multiple nuts rattle loose off of the top hook pins, so can also fall out. John Deere used to sell the iMatch with a welded top hook. They don't anymore. The top hook needs to be adjustable to match the ASAE specification.

    I have a Land Pride quick hitch along with the Tractor TPO Link. I have a bad back, so the two of them make life much easier for me. I HATE dealing with lift arm bushings and I’d spring for the Speeco quick hitch, if they only made them in green or a neutral color like many other manufacturers. When disconnecting an attachment connected to the TPO Link, I’ve found it easier to disconnect the adapter that’s connected to the attachment, as opposed to the other end that’s connected to the PTO shaft. I don’t know why, it’s just easier for me.

    We have a really old Kubota tractor and it wasn't Quick hitch compatible so we went with Pats. It made life easier . We will buy a speedco from you and the new and bigger stump bucket once you get it in. Of course we should have our new Grand L coming in about the same time😀.

    Sold mine. Didn't fit the some of the older implements I have on the lower pin width, and didn't fit any for the top hook. Need flexibility on the top for brush hogs so they can kick up, and the top pin adapter on a QH is time consuming to take on and off. Might go to Pats on the lower....or just keeping doing it the way I've been doing it for 30 years! Back up straight and use a 6' pry bar for minute adjustments!!

    My QA is from 2004, back then few if anything in the way of implements were QA ready, so in a sense, it is a partial quick hitch because I still have to get off the tractor and manually connect the top link since nothing I have works with the bolted on top hook. I also have a 4' KK rough cut mower that even though is is 2 years old is not QA ready. The pins do not have enough room to get the QA hooks under them so the QA has to be removed to use it.
    Looking forward to the weight brackets, that is something I had a need for, when I use my sprayer I have to clamp the 3PH down to keep the sprayer from lifting the QA when the water flows back.

    Your target audience totally use the quick hitch because they mostly are weekend warriors in the compact tractor range and really need your channel for instruction/information just such as the quick hitch you focus on here. You are performing a great service for these folks that just don’t have the experience in connecting & dialing in attachments. I really like the fact that you focus on the safety of operation a tractor too!! 👍. I got a kick out of the guy that made the “It’s a commercial”. DUH!!!! 😂😂😂. I bought a QH at the same time that I bought my new tractor (Kubota B2601) which replaced an ancient Ford industrial tractor-loader. I traded in all the old 6ft and 5ft implements with the old tractor and bought new Land Pride ones when I bought the tractor and the are all QH ready. I am 84 and on oxygen and could not possibly deal with horsing around my brush hog to hitch it up without the QH15. I agree that it makes coupling and uncoupling the PTO a pain in the butt, but that is a small price to pay for the convenience of just backing up to an implement and picking it up. My QH15 came with one set of bushings, but when I saw the price of them, I went the standard CAT adapters which let me have "bushings" on all my attachments for less than the cost of one set of the "real" ones. See my comment directly below this one for what I'm using.

    I have a harbor freight QH on my BX and I don't have any bushings on my attachments and only time it's a issue is pushing backwards with a grader blade it tends to want to bounce around in the slop of the bottom hooks but going forward, box blade, land plane, chipper or finish mower I have no issues. My bush hog is a issues simply because the bottom pins are too narrow for it to fit the QH. But I definitely like mine

    Hey Courtney, I just made a video about what I had to go through with my Mahindra eMax 20s. Even though it's a Cat 1 hitch, the backhoe subframe gets in the way when I tried to hook up to a Mahindra 5' rear blade. RCAFPOLAREXPRESS made a video showing what he did to help with that on his rear snowblower, but that still didn't work for me. I had to add some bar stock to the plow frame so that I could invert the lower link pins.

    I had a Harbor Freight QH for a few years but got tired of buying overpriced bushings and having to put them on all my implements, plus I have a finish mower that has a floating top link connection so I had to get a $40 adapter to use the Quick Hitch. Also had to remove the QH to use my trailer mover. Finally got fed up and got the Pat’s System and it has worked out 100 times better. IMO Pat’s Quick Change is a far superior system to any of the standard style Quick Hitches.

    Regarding the top hook using pins and retainer clips, some attachments will push out or mangle the clips (even bowtie versions) so beware of the possibility. In my applications I solved the issue using a long cotter pin between both pins to replace the clips.

    I am one of the guys that really hated the quick hitch because the top hook is not consistent across the spectrum of attachments and having to add cat 2 adaptors to all the attachments. Unbolting and bolting the top hook was not quick. I never thought about using pins on the top hook. That would really speed things up. I also like that manufacturers are now making the direct cat 1 quick hitch that does not need adaptors. Maybe I will try another one in the future. Thanks for the information.

    I was totally surprised that QHs came in as one of those things people hated. I get the feeling that a lot of respondents are just now using 3 pt. hitches -- been using them for 50 years. Before the QH, hooking them up was an extreme pain in the arse. Talk about having to get out of the seat! I also don't mind adjusting the top link because that was a given on every implement from a sickle mower to a plow -- it had to be adjusted to run the implements right. I use 3 implements, basically, and I wouldn't not have a QH.

  • @faithblinded

    The oversized top hook is a real problem IMO. I've been using my speeco for a year+ and loving it. I just grabbed a dirt dog box blade from y'all to use with it, and the oversized hook on the speeco makes using the box blade a real frustrating experience. The 3/4" pin sitting in a 1 3/8" slot allows the top link length to change by 5/8" as the forces on the box blade change, and the pin shifts forward or back. That much change completely alters the behavior of the box blade from perfect scrape/spread to full dump of a load. Some sort of bushing for the top pin is in order, imo. Or a new hook with the right sized slot.

    If you don't like quick hitches, the problem is NOT the quick hitch. It's you or your attachments. My quick hitch never comes off my tractor. It takes seconds to hook up equipment as long as you take the time to unhook on relatively level surfaces and prep your equipment accordingly. If you have old attachments that aren't compatible, there are adapter kits. Bought an adapter for my old back blade. Works great with quick hitch now.
