this interview is so good. I've watched other interviews with David and noe of them captured him quite like this. I found it so interesting hearing you and him speak about random shit rather than just the generic interview questions. A really clever approach to an interview.

I am so fascinated by this man, I just can't express how much I like him and it's really frustrating.
I didn't know he had anxiety, I just kind of assumed it, but hearing him saying it just makes me feel better about my own anxiety, it's weird but I feel like maybe I could really embrace it more since it is a source of inspiration for my drawings and projects

Did you ever see his video "Scribbler"? It's from back in '04, it's a pretty accurate representation of anxiety. I found it very relatable.

It's weird how interviews like these make David Firth so much more human and genuine, which makes his work and animations less creepy for some reason and more "interesting" instead, since now you know it's not made by a "mad man" but just by a creative guy. I dunno, i find it strange.

I'm only about 1/2 an hour through this interview but so far, more than anything I find it interesting to see how an American reacts to finding out about the life of the average British person. It's just I think Americans have so little concept of what we Brits are really like, they just have this very skewed media image that doesn't do any justice. This isn't a criticism, just an observation. I think due to the sheer amount of media that pores out from America we really know a lot more about them then they know about us. I know this is all kind of irrelevant but I just find it quite funny seeing Dom's reaction to the idea of bonfire night and finding out that David has probably never seen a real gun before.

Fantastic interview. Loved how you took a different approach to it. It seems like every interviewer asks the same questions these days & dumbs things down for the viewer. So it was refreshing to see an interviewer having a genuine conversation with the person, it really looked like David enjoyed it. It ended up being quite fascinating. Well done man. :)

    very interesting conversation.
i think on the topic of not receiving recognition while being alive, it probably sometimes makes the creator think they should stop but the overwhelming creative urges can't be suppressed. so ultimately even if it is depressing that they aren't getting the attention they think they deserve, they continue doing it anyway

I love this video! Your drawing of David Firth is amazing & the conversation between the two of you makes such great listening.
Just a couple of things, I believe Guy Fawkes was hung, not burnt alive.
Around 29:20, you mentioned it was 5:00 & looked really dark outside. (I live in the same City as David Firth). Was that interview filmed around Dec/Jan, by any chance? That time of year it is pretty dark by 5:00pm, but there's still a bit of daylight. When there's heavy rain, there are dark rain clouds in the sky, blocking some of the daylight. Also, that window you looked through may have been facing away from where the sun was setting.

I love this interview so much! I love that you didn't only talk about the work he does in which he said he was happy about right at the end of the interview. I legit thought at first that David was just some really troubled guy (as many would think at first) but once you would look deeper into his personally rather then what he makes you find out that he's actually a really sweet, kind, and cheerful person. I also found it interesting how he started to talk about the fact he has anxiety and sorta just his feelings in general for a bit. it was pretty odd to hear because I've never heard him talk about that topic but also kinda nice to see him in a sort of vulnerable moment there. through this video I also found ways I could relate to him. also great art as well I am genuinely impressed by that and just this whole video.
edit: 1:26:00 I for some reason found this really funny and how he so casualty said "I made a spinal cord" was very funny

I happened chance upon some free lit & chose to bring it home & read it; well worth price despite dubious title & hideous cover-art. Many here seem pleasantly surprised to find Firth no monstrous, drooling, 3-eyed weirdo, but instead, a handsome, sharp-witted, even-tempered, insightful, gentleman-weirdo, which gave me a giggle, but, u know what they say about still waters & judging books by their covers.

    This is a terrible interviewer.
(assuming you reading this) You didn't ask important questions as to 1) what was his first art piece Firth made that was different from the normal social construct we are taught to draw/ create? 2) Did you hide your creation at first from the general public? 3) Did you feel it was a part of your subconscious? 4) Did these creation come to you in visions or dreams?
    5) Then you assumed he was bullied? That was an insult
    6) You compared yourself to him, (no offence to you and not glorifying Firth) each artist is unique and has a form of energy to share with the world. Firth is his own energy, don't ever compare yourself to him or anyone. Firth isn't god, he is just another soul passing through this time frame with us, sharing his energy with us.
    Thank you Firth.
