Level 10 spines/fire brute AE farm

- Lots of folks ask on reddit and such about how you get a spines/fire brute up to 50, or how early you can start leveling a character like this solo instead of in teams, or what's a good first character (for someone who plans to play a lot and wants to get off to a good start for alts), etc. I had previously started doing a fire farm level with a level 17 brute, but I wanted to see how low I could go and still make it work... so here in this video I do it at level 10.
With only 500 influence worth of inspirations and the 5, free prestige enhancements available on the Homecoming servers' p2w vendor, I run a +0/x8 fire farm level at level 10. I make 2 levels in 4 minutes and decide to leave the mission since all the -2 stuff isn't worth a lot more XP. Then I set the difficulty up to +1/x8 and run that before even bothering to train at all, and make 3 more levels in just 7 minutes.
Starting off with enough purples and oranges to get your fire defense to 45 and your fire resist to 90 means you have at least a minute to kill enough enemies so that they drop more inspirations to keep you rolling. Your fury gives you enough damage to kill with just blazing aura and spine burst. Your 2-3 level ups per mission give you a large inspiration buff of each inspiration type to help you tank and DPS. And this all just gets faster and easier as you get higher! Unlocking your second resist toggle means you need to spend fewer of your initial inspiration slots on oranges, and can start going in with more reds to speed up your initial kills. Unlocking quills gives you a bunch more DPS, as does getting to burn and fiery aura. You unlock more enhancement slots at 25 also, helping your start and inspiration combine micromanagement easier. Etc etc.
I'm pretty sure you could make this happen at level 10, or at least by the mid-teens, with a number of different brutes AND tankers, or even possibly some scrappers (though only 75 fire resist will mean you will need to use some sort of heals, regen, or green insps in addition to 45 defense and 75 resist). Electric melee/, katana/, radiation melee/, staff fighting/... other secondaries even work. Fire gives an early PBAOE DPS aura and of course maxes fire resist first, but there are other farms out there with different damage types that other builds can make work early (and of course later on) too.
If you enjoy a sort of puzzle game in CoH, tweaking your build and your playstyle trying to be the most efficient farmer you can be... or you are planning to play a lot and spending 15-20 hours on an AE farmer to help powerlevel alts and collect influence and recipes sounds like a good use of time... or you have a spec you like to play on teams too but you also want to get some AE action in once in a while. - Hry

This is probably the single most useful video on this whole farming thing I have seen. Every other video is like "Hi I'm level 50 with all of the things let me show you the same thing the other videos show you"
Glad it was useful. I think there really are a lot of informative comments about how to do it from the beginning around on Reddit, but they get buried sometimes. I think if you get rolling at 10 or in the teens, you'll be able to feel your way through the higher levels and figure out a build that works "good enough" and that you have fun with.
The single biggest thing is inspiration use and management. I never wrapped.my head around how farming like this was possible until I tried it and saw that it's like 80% only doable at this level because of sooooo many insps

Very Good video, it's what I been looking for, I'm new to the game never play before, just made a Lv6 spines/fire brute few day ago and don't know what to do with it, I made a mistake sent him to Praetoria... should have sent him to Rogue Isles instead... sad, but thanks to you, I can slowly find my way back, I know i can make a new alt but I like to keep the name :D
I just learned about the buff's from the P2W vendor, no clue how I missed those. But with those, it makes leveling up any mele /fire brute/tank easy mode LOL Huge help all around for any class really expect End hog skills :P

You say it's not fun to watch, riveting gameplay and all, I get more than double my normal numbers on Twitch when I stream this farm. Sometimes people just want to hear the game be played, I'm thinking.
Good video, I started soloing at 35 on my farmer, with +0/x4, seeing this makes me think it could've been faster.
Hah, nice. Maybe I'll try streaming again one of these days. I think you're right about people listening to the game being played as a background thing though. My older videos of everquest emulators had a lot of people who comment that they liked doing that.

I have a plant psi Dom I farm with on s/l maps as that is easy to soft cap
4 dfb runs 4 dib to get the buffs and thats usually lvl 30 with xp boost
You can actually start this at level 6 at -1/x8 with enough purples.

I haven't played any CoH in quite a while, so I'm not much help on things anymore. Sorry!
Afaik the changes made makes any mob aggroed after 17 use ranged powers no matter what. This means that low level farming becomes more or less impossible because w/o defense cap (which is the hard part to get) you will die almost instantly.
tried finding the mission simulating building on mercy island on a homecoming server but its just a pile of rubble now!
Yeah, they removed them from Starting zones AP and Mi. they don't want low levels to use them. Just jump to the next zone and go for it. Oh wait, they Nerfed the Xp gain to try and stop/slow down Powerleveling :/
When you start should you use xp boosts?
I use them from 1-50. Influence gain from kills is very low before the 40s and still not great until 50. Selling rare salvage and your recipe drops on the /ah will get you enough inf go buy basic IOs unless youre terribly unlucky.
But I heavily prioritize getting to 50 because I most enjoy a character when it is complete. Many people enjoy the journey in and of itself so they don't mind never using the boosters.
@@tecmosdeception3401 In farms until level 40+ I barely get drops. not even enhances. HC devs they claim they didn't nerf drops but I think they did
I realize that you were pressed for time and had to go pick up your kids from school, but it would have been nice to see which enhancements you chose to slot onto your powers before you went into AE. I'd like to duplicate your exact build on my spines/fire brute so I can go do the same. I just hit level 10 but I'm going to respec so I can get abilities I need that were shown in the vid. Did you actually use all of the slots on your AoE powers or is that just preparation for end-game?
Like i said in the video description (and I think in the video too, can't remember), all I used were the 5 free prestige enhancements. They were 3 in blazing aura and 2 in spine burst.

it would be great if I could find people to play with. I've got a few heroes and villains.. level 6 to 10 so far. I used to play the OG Coh/CoV but it's way more fun with other people to play with. My main villain is "Necro Lord" and my main hero is "Celine" look me up if you have a chance.

Back again :p Seem HC Devs have nerfed AE leveling "Again" I just came back after a very long break. And not just a Nerf to Powerleveling from other players but leveling yourself in the AE
Hmm. Not sure how I feel about that. I haven't been playing any more lately, but I can see the argument that what I could do in the movie isn't in the spirit of the game and server.
But then again, it was really nice to be able to level up a new alt build out so fast.
Nothing like grinding the same mission repeatedly in the AE to really get the feeling of playing City of Heroes! This is the art that people have crying for since 2012!

I haven’t replied to a spines thread in weeks and it was to say that these fast times were exaggerated.
You however claimed your other video had bosses but everything died at the same rate and at no time did you ever target a boss so I simply don’t believe you there.

You greatly exaggerate this. Getting your initial io sets is going to take quite a while to farm as the sets that farmers use are in high demand and quite pricey."
That was in a thread where the OP was in awe of a spines/fire farming so easily, in reply to a comment I made saying that you could take a spines/fire brute from 1 to 50+full incarnates+tons of inf+full IO sets in ~40 hours. I definitely wasn't exaggerating, because I've done it personally on homecoming, and making sure I was right about my memories with my first spines/fire brute is the reason why I have new videos of low-level ones showing how early and how easily they can level.
Me saying on the video that I was doing this to prove a point after someone said I was greatly exaggerating how all this worked was entirely correct.
