- If you profess to be a Christian, that means that you profess to follow Jesus Christ. But, of course, that presupposes that you know who Jesus is-where he came from, what he came to do, where he went, and what he continues to do until the end of time.
Our understanding of Jesus can be shaped by our parents, our schooling, our culture, and our own ignorance. But, today, Fr. Mike redirects us to the primary revelation about Jesus that we have access to: scripture.

This is a real thought process I hear from so many people. I speak regularly to a lapsed Catholic who says repeatedly that the Church needs to change. 'Change into what? I ask, 'Your version of what the Church should be?' So much ego out there. Unless we park our ego at the door, we won't get in.

That’s why I believe confessing to a priest is important. If you believe you don’t need confession because you’re going to go to Jesus himself? He’s good with everything you do if you invented your own Jesus.

We have to understand the Biblical God. Listening to the Bible in a Year, there are many awful things that happen to people, but it is because they deny the True God and what He has asked them to do. They want their own God who does what they want him to do. It is the same in our modern world. It is not easy but we must try to conform our thinking to the real God. Prayer, reading scripture, but also reading the teachings of the saints and holy people who have gone before us is very helpful. God Bless. Claire.
I don’t know if what happens to those people in the Bible is all that awful - sad yes, and what not - but they were openly offending God, rebeling against Him, worshipping pagan idols, sacrificing children - I see it as due punishment. You reap what you sow. We all need to repent and get right with God, for He is a Holy and Righteous God.

Thanks, Father Mike. Even though by external practices I could be considered an active, orthodox, and relatively devout Roman Catholic, internally I must confess that I effectively do the same thing as the woman described in this story which I Do by virtue of my pride, theological and moral ignorance, and unrepentant soul. In Jesus help me to repent and see him clearly as He is. I'm praying for you; please pray for me.

I feel like I have a chance to become a regular Catholic with all this great teaching. Maybe one day I'll stop saying I'm a convert because I learned enough to be a "regular Catholic." I do feel like 'convert' is a scarlet letter I wear. But I have a true pearl gotten at a great price which Jesus paid. 🙏✝️

If Jesus would agree with all the things I say … I wouldn’t want him as much as I do. I need more of him and less of me . We need to be saved from ourselves sometimes.

Father Mike, it isn’t a surprise that 2 Protestants can’t agree on who Jesus is; they can’t even agree on what salvation is and their religion is unrecognizable after just 400 years. There are (infamous) priests and bishops - even Cardinals - who seem to believe in their own version of Jesus apart from what’s revealed in Scripture.

Yes! This is so good. The story is traditionally called the Kerygma, which means Proclamation. It involves much more than only the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus is at the center of the story - there is no story without him - but it involves what we find in the entire Bible, Old and New Testaments. Too many people haven't really heard the kerygma. Let's start there.

This judgment takes place when Christ sets up his earthly kingdom! These sheep and goats have missed the first resurection rapture! They will not receive glorified bodies those who pass thru this judgment with favor will enter the earthly 1000 year kingdom in fleshly bodies! Those he rejects will be thrown into damnation!! The glorified church will witness this judgment but not stand in judgment here. You can be a member of his true church by believing Jesus paid for your sins! Quit trying to pay for them yourself! Don't try to blackmail or bribe holy God with your deeds! All he requires is the blood of the lamb? Don't approach him with your own works as cain did and was rejected. If you do wrong there's a sin offering at the door of your heart. Our Passover lamb Jesus his sacrifice turns away the wrath of god from those who deserve it. Christ died for the ungodly!

as someone who's been raised to Question Everything, it's not that simple to just accept God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit on 'face value', as you declare here.... it's not a concept that has been promoted as i grew up into adulthood, and the Faith i enjoyed as a cradle Catholic Without Question seemed a bit stupid... too many people had accepted what their priest or clergy used to say to them, and so many people have been duped, abused, taken advantage of. i reckon there's a lot of folks who keep that in the back of their head as they journey into the understanding of God/Jesus/Bible.... letting go of modern day wariness isn't easy....

My mum always told me Bible stories about Jesus, before I went to school. Growing up and even now I love watching all the old religious movies, like the Ten Commandments and films about Jesus and the Crucifixion. I could watch these movies with Jesus for hours. You would see his anger at Temple when they were trading birds and he freed them from their cages. Jesus was angry. He was appalled at them for breaking the word of his Father. It's all in the Scriptures. How he lived and died. What he taught us. Follow Jesus words intently and understand him through his words x
