  • Dominic Miller - Guitar, David Sancious - Keyboards, Vinnie Colaiuta - Drums. From Sting's 40th Birthday Concert at the Hollywood Bowl October 1991. This was taped on the Disney Channel in 1992, which featured most of the concert interspersed with interviews and video clips. The entire concert is on a rare Japanese laserdisc.

      @@jeffoscodar3124 This band was great. I saw the "Soul Cages" show at the Wiltern in L.A. in early 1991 about 7 months before this Hollywood Bowl show. Just like at the Bowl show, Andy Summers came out for the encore. Vinx opened the show. Not sure but I think the English Beat were at the Wiltern show too. Joni Mitchell was in the audience about 6 rows in front of me!

    Thanks for the comment. It's funny, but the sound on this Disney special from '92 is much better than the original Japanese laser disc that it came from. The laser disc is rather flat and bland sounding. They really made the sound happen for the Disney special. I believe that Miles Copeland may have been involved in the Disney production. It's too bad they didn't feature the complete concert from the laser disc - there's like 5 or 6 more tunes, including 'Purple Haze'!

    Andy Summers is always the "forgotten one" of The Police, but his guitar chords were awesome.
    Keep in mind that al the real harmony was brought by a single guitar.
    I strongly recommend to listen to his solo albums or altogether with his great friend Robert Fripp.

    • @rohnfloresmusic
      @rohnfloresmusic  Před 6 lety +2

      Most definitely. Andy Summers provided the cool harmonies all coming from his guitar / guitar synth. Easy to take that for granted, but the band would not have sounded the way they did without him. His solo CDs are awesome, my favorite being “Last Dance of Mr. X” from 1997. Thanks for listening.

    A genuine attempt to somewhat address Kenny Kirkland's solo on the famous album from 1986. Sorry, but it cannot be compared with Kenny Kirkland's rendition, which is now part of music history. Kenny Kirkland was one of the most talented jazz pianists of the second half of the 20th century. And the aforementioned solo he created is the work of a genius.
    David Sancious did an OK job, but it is impossible to get near KK.
    I see many people does not know Kenny Kirkland's solo and that's why it needs to be addressed.

    Pale, noisy, sloppy. Very bad version compared to the original with Daryl Jones, Hakim and Kenny Kirkland. While Sancious is grooving, Miller's guitar is noisy as hell and completely out from the mood Sancious have taken.
