    I actually stopped messing with my RC car because I made it TOO fast. It was fun building it and modifying it but i think i crossed a line somewhere. Its way too fast and accelerates WAY too fast to the point it almost rips itself apart. I stopped when the next logical step was to upgrade all the parts to support the speed/torque. I live in a densely populated area so fast became not so much fun after a while.
    Long story short i watched your video so I could learn more about how to gear it back down again because i previously just used trial and error to get it high torque and speed (upgraded so much stuff).

      Oh yeah, there's definitely a sweet spot for every car, and a lot of cars are more fun at 50km/h than they are at 90!

    Friend, please help me, I'm new to car modeling, I built an onroad car, with a 64pitch pinion with 40T, and a 64pitch 96T spur gear, I use a hobywing 10bl120a esc, the futaba 3pv radio has the end point at 100%, the 10.5T Brushless engine for 1/10 cars in the few laps I drove, the spur gear damaged all the teeth, how can I be doing so that this doesn't happen?

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před 5 měsíci

      Make sure your mesh is absolutely perfect - that's all you can really do. You might want to go up to 48dp for more surface area on the teeth :-)

    Do you happen to know what pitch most 1/8 scale buggies and SCT use, neither one of my manuals say they just tell how many teeth, I converted my 1/8 scale buggy from nitro to electric and the motor came with a 15tooth pinion and my center differential gear is a 46 tooth and it's real slow but the motor is barely getting warmer than ambient temperature, it's got incredible bottom end speed but top's out about 25 mph, was thinking of trying a 19t or 20t, your opinion would be greatly appreciated and I know that the 32 pitch gears don't mesh with the differential gear

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před 9 měsíci

      If 32 pitch gears are too small, the next most common size up is 1.0mod.

    • @jackjd9954

      @@HobbiesDirect I'm hoping that's the same as mod1 because that's what I've ordered from my local hobby shop, thanks for the quick response, I truly appreciate that, great channel by the way, Peace Brother

    I have a arrma Gorgon and I switched from a t15 to a t26 and it's sooooo slow. Should I change my gear ratio to gain more speed or switch to a 12t.i keep burning up the stock. Motors.

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před měsícem

      You are right, a 26t motor will be a lot slower than a 15t motor, though it will have more torque. You could gear up for more speed, but Arrma pretty much got it right with the stock 550 size 14 turn.
      At this point, probably best to go for a cheap brushless system. Like 60A and 3300kv. Though you would have to change the radio/get a new compatible receiver as well as the Gorgon's ESC and receiver are combined into one unit.

    I have the element enduro senduro. i changed the pitch to 32 on the spur and pinion. i have the slip pads and washers for the spur. Can i run this with the same trans and if so, what other parts do i need. If not, what do i need to buy to make this run because it's not running.

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před 2 měsíci

      As long as the gears stay roughly the same size (and therefore the ratios), and all the pads fit and stuff, the pitch doesn't change anything.

    • @Crawler7645
      @Crawler7645 Před 2 měsíci

      @HobbiesDirect not having a problem with pitch my problem is the it goes all the way against the housing instead of having some space like the factory one that came on it

    If the gear ratio is 10:1 whats the spur and pinion gear t?

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před 28 dny

      Any multiple of 10 and 1, so 100 and 10, 200 and 20, 150 and 15 etc.

    So for carpet racing would you want to have faster acceleration then top speed ?

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před 6 měsíci +2

      depends on the track, but if the straight is only 2 seconds of a 20 second lap, you're only going to be the fastest on 10% of the track. Our local track is quite tight and twisty, so races are won in the corners.

    Would there be a way to make an rc car be able to “cruise” at a speed without it being almost full throttle the whole time

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před 6 měsíci

      You can turn down your throttle endpoints to slow the car down, or turn up the trim to make it drive forward slowly by itself. The only car we know of with "cruise control" is the TRX-4.

    hello, im converting a 1/10 scale nitro basher into a brushless basher. my stock gearing (2speed) nitro gears are 45t and 50t spur. I want to add a pinnion onto the brushless motor that will work well with the 50T spur thats allready on the car. im planning on using 3650 Brushless Motor 4500KV 60A. could you help me pick the right pinnion size to go with this setup?

    • @STRIMIX
      @STRIMIX Před 4 měsíci

      the original pinion is a 14t to go with the 50t spur. and a 19t pinion to go with the 45t gear.

      Is there a brushless version of your car from the factory? If so, start with the ratio that that came with :-)

  • @sirex9244

    I understand gear ratio, but why not put big gear on motor and smaller gear for wheels? Or it will be too much and car will be ripped in peaces? I am desiging my own rc car from 0 level and i thought that it was something logical, but i might not understand smth

    • @HobbiesDirect
      @HobbiesDirect  Před 8 měsíci

      Brushless motors can spin upwards of 50,000rpm, some even 100,000. if you have a 5:1 reduction ratio and just go giant pinion to small spur, you are asking the wheels to spin at half a million rpm at full throttle. That's...a lot. Even at slower speeds, throttle control would be terrible and the motor would have to work really hard to overcome the gearing. That said, making a car from scratch is awesome, good luck!

      @@HobbiesDirect thank you very much. I just saw on yt people making rc cars with 3d printing. So i got inspired to do the same but not everything 3d printed bc plastic is not strong and suitable for gears. So i am planning on making a road one and offroad one but it needs an insane designing and planning work its just takes me weeks to just a design it. So yeah thanks again
