The singing alone is excellent..
These guys and Cecily are SO well rehearsed!
@@hypercept actually, Cecily Strong will be on Broadway next week
@A Ω huh?
peeps, ignore the Negative Nelly troll. It’s a pattern
Do they even have time to rehearse??
That optional alt high note she does at the end is incredible!
You know it’s going to be good when Cecily and Bowen start singing
I Love when they team up together! So good!
Cecile please don’t ever leave SNL.
I'd argue from "Rick, you son of a bitch- what the HELL are you doing in my house!?"
Cecily should just be the musical act every act every week. These three worked well together and REALLY pulled off some fancy harmony work.
She’ll do it, but she’ll do it her way!
She's better than Swift
@@StephensEFRC Oh GOD yes
@@ViaVirtus The only way!
The Christmas episode is almost here 😌
Cecily always rocks her scenes! ...I am noticing a pattern of her not looking at the camera like the other performers, instead frequently looking at her fellow performers during a sketch. Keep your confidence girl,, you're stunningly talented!
Thanks man
She doesn’t rely on cue cards as much as the others do
This is based off of a song "Everybody Today Is Turning On" from the 1977 musical "I Love My Wife". Good musical theater knowledge for whoever wrote this!
Oh, to everyone mentioning Bea Arthur, her then husband Gene Saks directed "I Love My Wife" and won a Tony Award for it!
I thought it was a lawyer-friendly version of "Anything Goes".
@@canaisyoung3601 The song spoofs the old 1930s Cole Porter song writing style, so you're not far off at all.
Alfonzo, our subject matter expert of musical theater history - how close we talking that SNL writers ripped the whole bit?
My ears hear very similar songs but my ears are untrained. 🤠👂❤️
@@purrehype Almost. Exactly. I went to a performing arts school when I was young.
Lolol to be honest I thought that was a joke lol
Reminds me of when an aging Rat Pack did holiday specials in the 60's, either drunk or high on amphetamines or both usually with a cigarette in one hand. History just repeats itself.
It is from a 1980 Bea Arthur special. czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
@@RaymondHng Thanks for pointing that out Raymond!
Yup
It’s crazy how much Cecily looks like a young Bea Arthur in that wig!
..and then theres Maude
She should be in a "Maude" sketch!!
Yeah, I also noticed the resemblance to the late Bea Arthur!
@@dhalmahernandez_dy It _is_ Bea. czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
Yes! I was thinking that.... omg they should do a reboot of that
lol that little girl is the same one from the RuPaul reading in the library sketch who says "Library? More like STRAWBERRY!"
No it’s not the same one lol but I know who you’re talking about
"Because I'm high as a kite!" 🤣🤣
Jonathan Majors KILLED it in this sketch.
Jonathan Majors can also sing?!!! Wow! He was phenomenal & rocked his hosting duties!
He sings in “The Harder They Fall” too! Great movie and he has such a lovely voice!
He's a triple threat!
And dance!
I know right i barely knew who he was and now i want the world for him
So he can act, he can host, and now apparently sing? Mr. Majors is a jack of all trades.
Impressive -- and like Meryl Streep, he received his MFA from Yale School of Drama!
Did you SEE him dance?! He’s still got it!!
The dude is so talented that I'm convinced the show Loki is right. It's not one person. He's a multiverse of variants all coming together to form one successful Hollywood career
Liked this talent.
and he fine too, he needa stop playing a propose to me
Wow. Cecily and Bowen singing together was so fucking good! Their voices are so soothing.
Bowen's really breaking out and I couldn't be happier
He is not that good.
First time I saw Bowen, I knew this time would come. 🥲🥰
I absolutely adore Bowen. I was in tears watching the Daddy Long Legs sketch.
I love him
Are you his old drama teacher?
I feel like watching this while high is just hitting differently.
Most definitely lol - I’m in stitches and I honestly can’t stomach musicals lol.
It’s… perfect haha
I'm going to try it now. Lol
i feel like i’m in the audience
I literally picture to sketching my mind cuz imitate drug use but I don't really use it I just make fun of it darn it
the show might be a little crass, but my god can tennyson dance
😄
Cecily + Bowen are ✨magic✨ together! ❤️
Perfection
I see Cecile and Bowen together, I click. They are always fabulous!
bro this reminded me of the time my parents took me to avenue q when i was 5
I used to sing "Three Ladies" and "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" from Cabaret as an 8-year old to my mom's friends. And they all thought it was so cute! Had a heart attack when I got older and realized what those songs were about! 🤣
Or like when I was 7 and singing cell block tango on the school years because of my parents lmao
@@poopnoodle9563 I was singing "When You're Good to Mama" in public, when I was a kid; I got so embarrassed when I realized it was a string of innuendos.
🤣 that's funny! I saw Rent when I was young. Had a lot of questions, too! 😉
I was 8... yeah awkward.
Jonathan Majors did a great job hosting! Even if some of the sketches were a little uneven, he gave it his all, and that makes everything better!
jonathan majors NAILED this one
“If you don’t have the money, you can give a little handy”
Oh my. 🤣
They were talking about panhandling of course…
👋
The fact that the lyrics from this are almost more tame than the original... XD
I See Cecily is looking a lot like Bea Arthur in this sketch
Look for the comment below that links the video of Bea Arther and Rock Hudson singing the song that this sketch was based off of! I had no idea.
@@MauiSponge Oh I'll have to check it out... my first thought was, "Cecily has Bea Arthur's hair!"
Totally.
Exactly!
They totally need to do a golden girls skit with Cecily as Dorothy
Bowen is a gift that keeps on giving. Very talented guy. I hope he and Cecily have great success after SNL.
Best part “I guess the moral of our tune, is we’ll smoke anything OFF a spoon!!!”
Love me some Bowen, can’t believe he’s only the second Asian SNL has ever had.
(Nasim Pedrad being the first, yes, Iran is an Asian country.)
Rob Schneider and Fred Armisen are both partially Asian
@@simonzacek And now you can add Aristotle Athari, since he's also Iranian. And I'm glad someone else knows that Middle Eastern countries are technically Asian countries, since Asia is a very big continent.
@@simonzacek : I keep forgetting that Fred isn't actually Filipino, he just used to joke that he is because he's ethnically ambiguous. Meanwhile, Rob's mother is Filipina.
@@eaterdrinker000 He has a Korean descent though... His father side
No one looks at an Iranian and says hey look at that Asian
I’d like to thank the person in the comments who pointed out that this was based on a real song Bea Arthur and Rock Hudson did and WOW it’s so much more similar to the real thing than I expected
czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
this is just so well written and well executed i am so impressed with snl’s musical skits
The original czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
Every 10 years someone does a tribute song to drugs - 5 if it's really good shit.
i would genuinely listen to this song if it was on a cast recording lol
Here's the song it's based off of...and it's from a cast recording!
czcams.com/video/qbfgQkqR1OI/video.html
Amazing job channeling Bea Arthur! Cecily's side profile is spot on! Fabulous!
Bowen and Cecily together are almost too powerful. Jonathan did a great job keeping up with them.
The harmonies are amazing here!
And a theatre lover is born!!!!
That was the thing they said in the sketch!!!!!
This sketch is so good that i have nothing to say...
I have an old friend from college who really DID jump off her house while she was high. She broke both her ankles and had to be wheelchair bound for awhile. She finally managed to get herself clean, but she has lingering pain to this day. Say NO to drugs kids.
Cecily is the queen y'all
Me watching Chicago on Broadway when I was 10. Yet another theatre lover was born. 😂
The writing this season has surpassed anything since the hader/wiig/sudeikis/etc days. I really want Beck back and for the Veterans to stick around at least a few more seasons. They've really hit a great stride super early. The newcomers are excellent, but I really do love the older cast.
That being said, when Jost & Che leave WU, I think the Please Don't Destroy guys should take over. They'd bring such a good element to it and would probably change the format. Either way, at the end of last season, I was dreading the veterans leaving because no one in the newer cast besides Bowen really excited me. That's all changed, but I still want another few seasons just like they're giving us right now. If Beck came back it'd be perfect.
i miss beck (and where's kate lately!) but they have been smashing it this season
@@mooble1325 Kate is filming down in Australia.
@@Quartzquiz333 tysm!!!!
Bowen and his ability to make the most catchy songs about coke (if he wrote this and the Elf jingles) is killing me.
Is that song just "Anything Goes", only more drug-fueled rather than sex-crazed?
@@canaisyoung3601 haha it definitely gives Anything Goes, a coked up ‘You’re the top’ which that song alone just has so many innuendos but now I can’t unhear the similarities 😂
It is from a 1980 Bea Arthur special. czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
I remember how rare it used to be to see a kid on this show. Now they're all over the place. Love it.
Holy shit, this is ripped straight from Rock Hudson and Bea Arthur doing "Everybody Today Is Turning On" from Bea's stupid special from 1980. (The song is originally from I Love My Wife.)
THANK YOU!!! Someone else knows!!!
What? Wait, How do I see the original???? 🧐🤨
Oh right, maybe I could search the titles you provided 🤓
@@purrehype czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
@@Quartzquiz333 thank you!!!!! ❤️🧐
Something about Cecily’s wig and look in this scene reminds me of a story from St. Olaf…
@Rocky OMG. I just about fell off my couch because of you. LMAO
Golden Girls!
Her whole look is very much like Bea Arthur who was a prolific cabaret performer before and after Golden Girls. Look up her rendition of Pirate Jenny.
@@michellecena8159 It _is_ Bea. czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
Cecily is such an amazing character actor.
Haven’t laughed this hard in a while
My list of 1x hosts who I'd love to see in the 5-timers club: Donald Glover, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Don Cheadle, Saoirse Ronan, and now Jonathan Majors. He was so game in every sketch.
Heyyy! Who snuck a camera into the SNL after party?
My parents would 100% have taken me to this as a kid 😂
Cecily and Bowen are a FORCE
The Force is be with them!
I love when Cecily does ANYTHING.
This is a great look for Bowen!!!
And this was so sick and depraved that it is now my all-time favorite video ever!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Best Rock Hudson/ Bea Arthur spoof ever!
*This reminds me of Avenue Q*
I was gonna say this must have been a song taken out from Avenue Q and revived
It's actually based off the song "Everybody Today is Turning On" from the musical "I Love My Wife"...and it was written almost 45 years ago!
Wait. This is an absolute steal of the song “Everybody today is turning on” from “ I love my wife” with a slight change of the melody and mildly updated lyrics.
Not a steal, the point of the sketch.
@@koorkad7405 I agree if it was filked to mean something totally different with the same music, or extremely similar lyrics with a very different melody, but loving both this show and the original the song it’s taken from, it makes me feel a little uncomfortable because it is so close to the original but without giving credit but not enough the same so they could avoid paying copyright fees. I don’t have all the information regarding how this was written, but for some reason this really set my hackles off. Possibly because that show has never gotten the credit I think it deserved musically.
Major little solo dance 🤣🤣
I think Jonathan at least in part is basing his character on Sammy Davis Junior. Some of the moves and the jacket. Any way he is brilliant!
Agree with everyone Cecily was Channeling Broadway Bea Arthur from the 60s.
1980. czcams.com/video/4KB__tQKPwI/video.html
@@RaymondHng Yes! Thank You! Betcha Cecily referred to it! Wow Bea and Rock! What an odd pairing!
@@maestroclassico5801 In a 2004 review of the bootleg copy of _The Beatrice Arthur Special_ : "This unlikely pair have more fun in a novelty musical number in which they swill martinis while complaining about the youth drug culture. Imagine Beatrice Arthur complaining to Rock Hudson about acid while he returns the grumble about poppers, while both of them consume enough alcohol to sorely tempt the friends of Bill W. to fall off the wagon."
This reminds me of when my husband showed me a video that he and his friends found hilarious in high school but he realized as he was showing it to me that it’s way more disturbing than he remembered.
Woooooooooooooowwwww still got it tineson lol. And when you hear “some saaaayyyyyyy” It sound amazing.
This was amazing I wonder how they managed to rehearse it so thoroughly omg
They made her look like B. Arthur.

My new favorite musical
This is my favorite SNL skit ever. I laughed so hard my face hurt.
Serving Rock Hudson and Bea Arthur realness - LOVE THIS
Holy CRAP was that funny - Reminds me when I used to sing my favorite musical Chorus Line, and was doing Dance 10, Looks 3 (the T&A song) at the age of EIGHT!!! HAHAHA. This clip was GREAT
So happy to see Kyle Mooney getting more screentime!
I'm friggin dying at this. Such solid performances.
Johnathan is coming for everybody!
JM may be a little clunky delivering some of the sketch lines, but he knocked this one out of the park. :-)
We all got goosebumps.
This is for all the old cast members from the 70s-80s!
This skit shows that These guys are so damn talented. Like, so f**king talented beyond normal range of compliments. Beyond.
Way beyond. 💖💖💖
Cecily and Bowen are a dream team
Bowen, Jonathan, and Cecily 🤌🏾
love that Kyle was in so many sketches this episode
Same. Also, he looks particularly hot in this one 😍
Beck is no longer there to steal his thunder
Cecily is a freaking STAR, honey.
More Cecily and Bowen singing skits!
I hate musicals and Broadway but this was liiiit 😂🤣
I actually really enjoyed this..
The wig and the attitude - pretty sure Ms. Strong should do the Bea Arthur story.

@@RaymondHng I’m old…how did I not know that?!! Thanks.
Yes her and Bowen together again singing haha. I still like the one with Jason Bateman as Devon their piano player last season. But, this one was top notch as well. Cecily plays a perfect drunken broadway burnout almost sounding like Liza hahaha. I hope they do more of these together.
